The most remote inhabited island in the world ????

Welcome to the most isolated place on earth.

This island is the world's most isolated inhabited location. It is also one of the few places on Earth without a physical border with another land mass. It’s located in the South Atlantic Ocean approximately 1,700 miles from Cape Town in South Africa and 2,400 miles from Mar del Plata in South America. Welcome to Tristan da Cunha. One of the least populated places in the world, with only 300 people.

This is a self-governing territory of the United Kingdom with its own constitution.
The only way to travel to Tristan is by ship from Cape Town, but only a limited number of berths are available.

The island has a circular shape with a 21-mile-long coastline. Despite its small size, it is undoubtedly an interesting and unusual destination to explore.

Tristan da Cunha Island 2020

Tristan da Cunha is a remote group of volcanic islands in the south Atlantic Ocean. It is the most remote inhabited archipelago in the world. Tristan da Cunha is 2,400 kilometres (1,500 miles) from the nearest continental land, South Africa and 3,360 kilometres (2,090 miles) from South America.
Tristan da Cunha - World's Remotest Island Deep Into The Atlantic Ocean is comprised of only about 269 people as of 2020.Tristan da Cunha is a small island with just one village and limited resources. Immigration is necessarily tightly controlled, and there are few expatriate job opportunities..
Smack-dab in the middle of the island lies a giant volcano. But Tristan da Cunha is enticing because it offers something that no other island destination can: the most extreme isolation. Located in the south Atlantic Ocean, the 8-mile-wide British overseas territory is the most remote populated island in the world.
Tristan da Cunha, island and group of islands in the South Atlantic Ocean, about midway between southern Africa and South America. The island group is a constituent part of the British overseas territory of St. Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha

The City of Jamestown St Helena - to Live, Work & Explore

Jamestown is the capital of St Helena Island, a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic Ocean.

The island is tiny and very remote, it’s most notable claim to fame is that French Emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte was exiled here in 1815, where he died 6 years later.
Until recently St Helena was only accessible by ship, however, St Helena Airport began scheduled flights in 2017 and now weekly flights to Johannesburg, South Africa, keep the island connected with the outside world.

For anyone considering living or taking up a job opportunity on St Helena, this short film gives some insight to what you can expect to find in the island's capital, Jamestown.
Sampling the prestigious St Helena coffee, night swimming at the Jamestown pool, noisy street parades to celebrate the national day and spotting the colourful fish in the Castle Gardens fountain, are some of the activities to experience.
This video about Jamestown also includes shopping for groceries along Main Street, catching a taxi, climbing Jacob's Ladder and target shooting at the Jamestown Rifle Club, plus lots more!
We also include an overview of Jamestown’s history and how it came to be a city.
Filmed & produced in early 2023

Tristan da Cunha - No Place Like Home (24th October 1989)

Documentary about Tristan Da Cunha, one of the world's most isolated islands, with a population of only 300 people. Its only contact with the outside world at the time was a once a year mail boat. American producer, John Heminway travelled to the island on that boat and spent two weeks on the island. The film is a record of his journey and his experiences during his stay.

Welcome to our list of top reasons why you should visit Tristan da Cunha.

Today we will travel to the most remote inhabited archipelago in the world. Tristan da Cunha is a remote group of volcanic islands with rare wildlife in the South Atlantic Ocean, lying approximately 2,400km west off the coast of Cape Town in South Africa.

-A ride on the only bus in the island will carry you to the Potato Patches, a communal land where crops are grown

-A walk to the summit of Queen Mary’s Peak. Please note you must go with a local guide and the visit must be arranged in advance with the Tourism coordinator.

-Local boats are available for hire for offshore fishing, or for trips around Tristan or to Nightingale Island, where Rockhopper Penguins can be spotted in January
