Visiting Granada Nicaragua? You MUST DO This! | Las Isletas Boat Tour

The Las Isleta Boat Tour is one of the best things to do in Nicaragua, as rated on TripAdvisor! Las Isletas de Granada are 365 little islands surrounding the city of Granada in Lake Nicaragua and were created by a massive volcanic eruption from nearby Mombacho Volcano around 20,000 years ago. The tour starts with a scenic horse carriage ride through the city down to Lake Nicaragua. The boat tour then explores the isletas, passing by the luxurious island mansions of the wealthy Nicaraguense, stopping at the San Pablo Fort, Correviente Restaurante and even gives you a close encounter with monkeys! If you're considering Nicaragua Travel, make sure you watch this video!

A tour around the islands on Lake Cocibolca is a must see on any stay in Granada. Rent a boat at the end of the drive down the Malecon (the road that runs south along the lake) for $15-20 for an hour + scenic journey through the islands that were created long ago when nearby Mombacho Volcano erupted.

You will observe a large variety of bird life and even monkeys in the area and can catch a really refreshing breeze to cool down the family.

Climbing volcanoes in Nicaragua | Mombacho Volcano | Things to do in Nicaragua | Nicaragua Travel

Nicaragua is the land of lakes and volcanos. One of our favourite volcanoes in Nicaragua is Mombacho volcano. After gazing at it for months from our home in Granada Nicaragua we decided to go and see it up close. In this Nicaragua travel vlog we present the perfect day trip from Granada Nicaragua, hiking up Mombacho Volcano! Climbing volcanoes in Nicaragua is such a fun expereince and one of the best things to do in Nicaragua.

Located just 10km outside of Granada Nicaragua, is this extinct volcano. It has its own unique habitat and cloud forest. We came across plenty of wildlife on our Nicaragua volcano hike, like howler monkeys and the guardabarranco, the national bird of Nicaragua. After some strenuous hiking up the volcano, we were rewarded with spectacular views of Granada, Lake Nicaragua, Las Isletas, Volcano Masaya and Laguna de Apoyo!

Las Isletas Tour, Granada, Nicaragua

When the Mombacho Volcano erupted thousands of years ago, it threw huge rocks into Lake Nicaragua. As a result of this violent eruption 365 islets were formed in front of Granada. The islets differ in size between a hundred square meters and over one hundred hectares. The islets serve different purposes. There is a community of about 1200 people living on the islets. Most of the people living here are fishermen. Other islets accommodate hotels, bars, and restaurants or luxurious houses mostly owned by foreigners, who only stay for a few days of the year. There are islets containing spider, howler and white face monkeys plus uninhabited islets with only some palm trees growing on it. This was a $20 tour lasting approx four hours with a stop off at one of the islets bars where you could have a relaxing drink or go swimming in the lake. It was a beautiful day with a funny episode when one of the monkeys boarded the boat unexpectedly and wouldn't leave. It was particularly funny when another tour boat pulled in front of our boat trying to spot the monkeys not realising there was one behind them !!!
