Eating & Drinking our way ACROSS Ireland! Irish Food Tour (Dublin, Galway & Co. Kerry)

We visited Ireland and ate the best food the Emerald Isle has to offer all along the way. We start off in Dublin, before venturing to the West Coast of Ireland.

35:12 Galway Food Tour

51:00 Kerry

Ireland is an island nation located in northwestern Europe. It is the third largest island in Europe, and is divided into two political entities: the Republic of Ireland, which covers about five-sixths of the island, and Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom and covers the remaining one-sixth.

Ireland has a rich history and culture, with evidence of human habitation dating back to prehistoric times. It has a strong literary tradition, with many famous writers hailing from the country, including James Joyce, W.B. Yeats, and Samuel Beckett. Ireland is also known for its music and dance, particularly traditional Irish music and the Irish stepdance.

The country's economy has undergone significant changes in recent decades, moving from an agricultural base to a more diversified economy with a focus on technology, pharmaceuticals, and financial services. Despite this, Ireland's rural areas still retain a strong agricultural tradition, with dairy and beef farming being particularly important.

Tourism is also a significant industry in Ireland, with visitors coming to enjoy the country's natural beauty, historic sites, and cultural attractions. Some of the country's most famous landmarks include the Cliffs of Moher, the Ring of Kerry, and the Giant's Causeway.

EATING IRISH FOOD!!! ????????????4 Must Try Dishes in Dublin

Today we're eating Irish Food! What a better way to start out a trip to Dublin, Ireland than to spend a day trying various types of Irish dishes for the first time..

The first dish of the day that we tried was a traditional Irish Breakfast. Consisting of bread, toast, beans, bacon, tomato, and black and white pudding, this breakfast was hearty and delicious. We tried this breakfast at O’Neill’s Pub and Kitchen,

Next up was a dish that we’d never heard of before, called boxty. Essentially a pancake made out of potato flour, we ordered a boxty with chicken and bacon. We found this dish at Gallaghers Boxty House

Lastly we headed to another Irish pub, the Hairy Lemon where we each tried similar looking dishes that tasted completed different! One was a traditional Irish Stew and the other was Irish Coddle. Both were served with a side of mashed potatoes.

------------------

O’Neill’s pub and kitchen, Dublin:
Situated in the historic heart of Dublin and just across the street from Temple Bar is O´Neill´s Pub. Around the corner from Trinity College, Grafton Street and the world-famous Molly Malone Statue, it´s the perfect place for a quiet pint, a tasty meal or a lively music session or just to rest your feet for a while. You´ll always be sure of a warm, friendly welcome.

O’Neill’s is a genuine traditional Old Irish pub renowned for its friendly staff and patrons, its great atmosphere and world-famous food. It looks like a regular pub from the outside, but inside it’s a pleasure to drink in, with its various nooks and crannies, upstairs and down. Whether you want to enjoy the great pub atmosphere or find a quite corner for yourself, O’Neill’s have it all.

Gallaghers Boxty House:
Our restaurant has been at the beating heart of a dynamic, contemporary community for over 25 years. Our customers experience a genuine taste of modern Ireland, full of eclectic talking points and the warmth of that country kitchen down the west. Today, our restaurant caters for up to 2000 local and international customers a week. The relaxed, warm atmosphere provides a natural habitat for conversation to flow easily and to share stories.

The Hairy Lemon:
This most enjoyable drinking establishment is just about as unconventional as it’s namesake. Even the 19th century house in which it resides is a little ‘outside-the-box’; with years of memorabilia, a sitting room suspended in mid air, High Nellie’s, Wellies and even Granny’s Kitchen.
Unknown to itself, the Hairy Lemon has become one of Dublin’s Trendiest Pubs.

Food featured:
Irish Breakfast: Irish breakfast is proudly packed with must-have specialties, often from local producers. If you ever travel to Ireland, this is the best way to start a food tour in the emerald Isle.

Full Irish Breakfast – traditional Full Irish – Ulster Fry Breakfast or even Irish Fry Up. They are all versions of the same traditional Irish breakfast that has been served for years.

Boxty
Boxty is a traditional Irish potato pancake. The dish is mostly associated with the north midlands, north Connacht and southern Ulster, in particular the counties of Mayo, Sligo, Donegal, Fermanagh, Longford, Leitrim and Cavan.

Irish Stew
Irish stew is any variety of meat and root vegetable stew native to Ireland. As in all traditional folk dishes, the exact recipe is not consistent from time to time, or place to place. Common ingredients include lamb, or mutton, as well as potatoes, onions, and parsley. It may sometimes also include carrots

Irish Coddle
Coddle is an Irish dish which is often made to use up leftovers, and therefore without a specific recipe. However, it most commonly consists of layers of roughly sliced sausages and rashers with chunky potatoes, sliced onion, salt, pepper, and herbs. Traditionally, it can also include barley.

3 Great Restaurants in Dublin, Ireland for Irish Food #ireland

If you're visiting Dublin, Ireland, here are three great food spots to check out...

Irish cuisine is hearty, comforting, and rooted in traditional ingredients and cooking techniques. Potatoes, a staple of Irish cuisine, feature prominently in dishes like colcannon (mashed potatoes with cabbage or kale) and boxty (potato pancakes). Irish stews, such as the famous Irish lamb stew, are flavorful combinations of tender meat, root vegetables, and herbs. Another beloved dish is the traditional Irish breakfast, featuring items like bacon, sausage, black and white pudding, eggs, and grilled tomatoes. Seafood plays a significant role, with dishes like smoked salmon, seafood chowder, and fish and chips being popular. Soda bread, a simple and dense bread made with baking soda, is a traditional accompaniment to meals. Irish desserts include classics like apple pie, bread and butter pudding, and rich chocolate Guinness cake. And of course, no exploration of Irish cuisine is complete without a pint of Guinness, Ireland's iconic dark stout beer. Overall, Irish food reflects the country's rustic charm, reliance on local ingredients, and a warmth that mirrors its people.
