Have you been wondering what is the best place in India to see tigers? If you ask me, it's Ranthambhore National Park in Rajasthan!

Over the past five years, I've been fortunate enough to lead photographic safaris to Ranthambhore National Park on a number of occasions, each time with the goal of photographing wild tigers, as well as all the other mammals and birds that call this beautiful park home.

Ranthambhore lies in north-western India and covers approximately 1300 square kilometres, but only a portion of this is open to tourists. This core area, as it's known, is home to approximately 25 of the 70+ adult breeding tigers that live in Ranthambhore National Park, making it one of the best places in all of India to see tigers.

And it's not only a dense population of tigers in Ranthambhore that make it so good for a tiger safari, but also the fact that many of these tigers are extremely relaxed. Most of the tigers I've seen, have been relaxed enough to walk right up to and past our vehicle, posing for photographs and going on with their business as if we weren't even there. As a wildlife photographer, this is one of the reasons I love Ranthambhore for tiger safaris.

Something to keep in mind, is that Ranthambhore National Park is divided into 10 zones, each varying in size, topography and the likelihood of seeing tigers. Zones 1-6 are definitely give you the best chance of finding and photographing tigers, with Zone 3 and 4 - the Lake Zones - being my absolute favourites, not only because of the relaxed tigers that live there, but also because it's so beautiful.

If you're looking for Ranthambhore accommodation, consider staying at Hotel Dev Vilas. It's much closer to the park's main entrance gate than most of the other hotels, which means you don't have to deal with traffic early in the morning. It has 21 comfortable suites with en suite bathrooms, a restaurant that serves delicious food, a swimming pool as well as a small gift shop.

The owner, Balendu Singh, not only takes care of his guests in the most professional way, but he also knows the park intimately, resulting in a much richer tiger safari experience than what you would have if you stay elsewhere.

Ranthambhore National Park is closed for the monsoons from 1 July to 30 September each year. Personally, I like going in late November or early December, when it's nice and cool, and the tigers are more active during the day. March is also nice. April, May and especially June, can get very unbearably hot!

Make sure to do a walk up the ancient Ranthambhore Fort one morning to photograph the Langur monkeys and stunning birds that call it home!

Here are my seven reasons why I think Ranthambhore is the best park in India for Tiger Safaris:
00:00 Intro
00:42 Ranthambhore has a large population of tigers
02:46 Ranthambhore's tigers are very relaxed
04:07 The park has a wild feel to it
07:04 There are lot of other mammal species as well
09:00 It's a birdwatcher's paradise
09:49 There's comfortable accommodation close-by
11:00 Ranthambhore is close to other attractions
12:06 Best time to visit Ranthambhore

I hope you enjoyed this video about why I think Ranthambhore National Park is the best place for tiger safaris in all of India!
