Welcome to our video on a 2 week itinerary for Madeira! In this video, we'll take you on a tour of some of the best things to see and do on this beautiful Portuguese island.
We'll start off in the capital city of Funchal, where we'll visit the Monte Palace gardens and the famous Funchal Toboggan, a thrilling ride through the streets of the city. Next, we'll explore the stunning Nuns Valley and the 25 Fontes waterfall.
Then, we'll embark on a challenging hike from Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo, taking in breath taking views of the island along the way. There's more leisurely walks like the Levada Moinho and Levada Nova trails which showcase spectacular waterfalls, Caldeirao Verde with another substantial waterfall and Sao Lourenco, a fantastic coastal trail with plenty of wild swimming options. Lesser known levada trails will be covered such as Levada Faja do Rodrigues, Balcoes, Levada do Rei, Levada Castelejo and Levada dos Cedros.
Hiking aside, we head to the north of the island to visit the picturesque town of Porto Moniz, known for its natural swimming pools. We'll also make time to visit the Fanal Forest, a beautiful and serene spot that's perfect for a peaceful photography session. And we scope out some of the best sunrise spots: the stunning Pico do Arieiro and Bica da Cana. Not to forget Cascata dos Anjos or Cabo Girao either.

There is a secret place,
- in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
A lush volcanic rock,
- that few people know about.
It's called Madeira,
- but is it really a secret?
Well, as you can see there is an airport here,
- but there are no airplanes!
That's of course not true.
Madeira has been a popular travel destination for many years,
- but it's still widely undiscovered compared to the Canary Islands,
- Crete and Mallorca, Madeira barely exists.
And that's why we made this video.
We think this is Europe's best island,
- and the last secret paradise!
Welcome to paradise!
And that's also why we live here.
We have a hundred hours to show you all the things,
- that makes Madeira a true bucket list destination.
We will also show you how to travel this island,
- so you might want to bookmark this one.
There are four things that makes Madeira a paradise.
Fantastic weather.
Amazing food.

This is a two star Michelin restaurant,
Madeira even produces both red and white wine.
- they actually cheered in Madeira wine.
It is truly wonderful to try this creative take on the Madeiran food,
- but honestly we need to talk about the traditional food as well.
This is a prego,
- and this is the Madeiran answer to a steak sandwich.
What about espetada?
Lapas?
The original Madeira hamburger?
Or picado?
It's perfect warm-up for tomorrow's sunrise hike, you know.
For getting around Madeira we suggest you rent a car or scooter,
- but since you most certainly will fall in love with the delicious poncha,
- you can also hire a driver.
And this is Lido. A perfect place to go for a stroll,
- and to have the best Italian food here on this island.
And this incredible restaurant is located on the beautiful Villa Porto Mare Hotel.
We made it to the garden of Monte Palace, guys,
- and usually people will come by the cable cars that go from the city center of Funchal.
This place is a magical fairy tale world with so much history that you must visit.
In wintertime you can literally go from snow on the mountain top to tropical ocean life.
On our way to the old town we bumped into the Tobaggan sleds.
This is such a cool experience and definitely worth doing.
It might come as a surprise that Funchal has this authentic pure European charm.
Here are three more things you must do in Funchal.
Number one is to go for a Madeira wine tasting at Blandy's.
Go have a poncha at our favorite place.
And also walk the Piornais levada,
As you will fall in love with the old town,
- consider also staying at the Porto Santo Maria hotel.

4 Days in Madeira, Portugal Island | WOW The Hawaii of Europe
Join us for 4 days in Madeira, an island in Portugal, which is a 2 hours flight from Lisbon. We visit Funchal, the islands capital, the local farmers market, some stunning botanical and tropical gardens, ride the cable car, and go on two beautiful hikes. One across a bunch of waterfalls known as PR6 - Levada das 25 Fontes and the other, known as PR1 - Pico do Arieiro, a hike which is best seen at sunrise. Also in this video, I cover a bunch of tips for those thinking of visiting - renting a car, hiking information, public transport, and more.
