A large covered bazaar that dates back to 1891, Ironhi Market is lined with vendors of merchandise and handicrafts. Nearby is the massive Notre-Dame de la Sompione Cathedral, which was destroyed in the 2010 earthquake. Colorful early 19th-century gingerbread-style houses characterize the city.

Ayiti, Quisqueya or Bohio became Hispaniola. By the Treaty of Ryswick, in 1697, France obtained the western part and changed the name to Saint-Domingue. The expression the pearl of the Antilles present in history textbooks, came from the colonists of the old regime, because of the mass of sugar supplied by Saint-Domingue to France towards the end of the 18th century. This colony alone produced half of the world's sugar. By the monumental gesture of the native army, the battle of Vertière which would lead to the final victory and the proclamation of the independence of Haiti, on January 1, 1804, the slave changed status. After more than two centuries, he became master of his destiny. Today we know it under the name of Haiti, a true paradise on earth, one of the most beautiful islands in the Carribean.

The Pearl of the Caribbean has always been about transforming the south of #SaintLucia to provide greater economic, social and leisure opportunities for Saint Lucians, especially those living in the south.
Yesterday, we hosted The Pitons Cup- The Richest Race in the Caribbean which was the island's first International Horse Race. This signals the official beginning of a wave of positive development in #VieuxFort and surrounding communities.
As I have repeated, the Horse Racing Track has not been financed by CIP Funds, however as the #DSH Group enters into the second phase of development which includes hotels, villas and other types of real estate development, the new Phase will have CIP components.
Over the next few days I will be sharing more details on several aspects of this new and exciting project.
In the meantime, I take this opportunity to share with you the vision for the Pearl of the #Caribbean, a major component of Building a New and Progressive Saint Lucia for the Benefit of ALL
