Gothenburg - Sweden's Little London | Travel Guide and History

Gothenburg is sometimes called the Little London of Sweden, and in 2023 the city turns 400 years old. Time to celebrate - and to check out everything that Sweden's second biggest city has to offer!

For more videos every week, subscribe to the channel:

Also, join the Three Star Vagabond Facebook group to discuss upcoming videos:

In this video I give a history to the city, and I also dive into why the 400 year celebration is all a LIE! But I also explore everything you can see and do when you're visiting. Aside from scenic views and quirky details that can be found all over town, I also check out the following places:

- The parade street Avenyn
- Götaplatsen, with the Poseidon statue, the Museum of Art and the Gothenburg Art Gallery
- Feskekôrka, the strange sounding fish market from the 19th century
- Parts of the island of Hisingen, with for example Lindholmen
- A few bars and pubs, such as Lilla London, Rockbaren and the Steampunk Bar
- Universeum, Gothia Towers and Liseberg - the biggest amusement park in the Nordics
- The infamous crossing Korsvägen
- The public sauna and public swimming pool called Pöl Harbour
- The Museum of Natural History
- Aeroseum, an amazing air force museum
- Haga, the oldest district of Gothenburg, where you can buy a gigantic cinnamon bun called Hagabullen
- Skansen Kronan, a defensive fortification from the 1600s
- The Botanical Gardens that turn 100 years old in 2023
- Slottsskogen, the biggest and oldest park in Gothenburg
- The Play Shoreline (Spela Shoreline) monument
- Trädgårdsföreningen, the Horticultural Society in the city center
- And finally, a quick look at Paddan, a very touristy boat ride along the city canals

Join me in this exploration of everything Gothenburg has to offer. It may not be as cool as Stockholm...but it's not too shabby at all ;)

GOTHENBURG: A culinary journey. The BEST swedish food and beaches of the archipelago // EPS 23

Join a culinary tour to Gothenburg and it’s surroundings and discover the most beautiful beaches and best kept local secrets of Swedens west coast.
When traveling there is only one rule I always follow: Go where the locals go. This time it lead me to crystal clear water, the rugged beauty of granite shores, magical sunsets and a vibrant city with a strong working-class, unpretentious vibe.
We started our culinary journey while waiting for our motorcycle tires to be changed in Gothenburg Downtown:
Saluhallen is the biggest indoor market in town. The Market Hall was built at the boatyard at Götaverkan between the years 1888-1889 and designed by architect Hans Hedlund, who has drawn many of Gothenburgs most famous buildings of that time. At Saluhallen you find delicacies from all over the world - and seafood right from the ocean at Gothenbourg. We decided for shrimps and sweet water crayfish - that made for a delicious lunch at our relatives house close to Gothenburg.
The real charm of Gothenburg is not only it’s vibrant city - but it’s location on the Kattegat - the arm of the North Sea separating Denmark from Sweden. After having received several suggestions from our family and friends living in Gothenburg, we set out on a hike to one of the most beautiful beaches - a real local hidden gem. Find out more about Gothenburg, the best sweidish food available and the best beaches of the Gothenburg archipelago in this video.

Our Highlights:
- Shop shrimps & crayfish at Saluhallen, Gothenburgs biggest indoor market
- Have a the hot dog Halv Special at Lasse på Heden
- Discover the remote beaches of Vallda Sandö nature reserve
- Make a picnic with Kalix Löjrom - one of Sweden's most special delicacies
- Visit the car free island Tistlarna
- Spot rare harbor porpoise

My Gothenburg Experiment turned into something of an unexpected surprise...

What's it like to be dropped in a new city with ZERO knowledge, research or planning? In this video I wake up in Gothenburg, Sweden and try to find my way around without the help of maps, reviews, sense of direction, or any real idea of how things will turn out. And what I find is, in my mind anyway, probably the PERFECT city!

Hi, I’m Steve, a travel reviewer from Scotland. Join me on my adventures as I discover my own country, often visiting places for the first time, so hopefully it's as much of an eye-opener for you as it is for me! Don't expect expert opinion, just a very honest journey of discovery. Sometimes featuring my intrepid sidekick Alicja, sometimes featuring adventures beyond the borders of Scotland. Enjoy!

The Little London of Sweden - Gothenburg | Sweden Travel Vlog

Welcome Adventurers to a new destination!

In this Sweden Travel Vlog, i explore Gothenburg for the first time, however the real reason i am in Sweden is because the past couple of years i have been researching my heritage and i have found some long lost family who live near Gothenburg! stick around till the end of the episode for a full rundown as to why i am in Sweden!

Gothenburg is the capital of Västra Götaland County in Sweden. It is the second-largest city in Sweden, after the capital Stockholm, and the fifth-largest in the Nordic countries. It is situated by the Kattegat on the west coast of Sweden, with a population of approximately 600,000 in the city proper and about 1.1 million inhabitants in the metropolitan area.
King Gustavus Adolphus founded Gothenburg by royal charter in 1621 as a heavily fortified, primarily Dutch, trading colony. In addition to the generous privileges given to his Dutch allies during the ongoing Thirty Years' War, e.g. tax relaxation, he also attracted significant numbers of his German and Scottish allies to populate his only town on the western coast. At a key strategic location at the mouth of the Göta älv, where Scandinavia's largest drainage basin enters the sea, the Port of Gothenburg is now the largest port in the Nordic countries!

I could fly Gothenburg to Gdańsk in an HOUR, but where's the fun in that ;)

Today's challenge is to get from Gothenburg, Sweden to Gdańsk, Poland without flying. It won't be fast, but it will be interesting, combining a trip on Sweden's state-owned railway along with a Baltic Sea crossing with a ferry company I know nothing about. Which will come out on top? Come along with me and we'll discover it together, but fair to say it was a bit of a mixed bag...

I travelled this route on 9th and 10th May 2023.

Injury Sailing Into Gothenburg Sweden’s Amazing Archipelago | Ep. 154

For as long as we've dreamed of sailing in Sweden, Finland and Norway, we have had our sights set on the archipelago outside of Gothenburg (or Göteborg). In this episode, we arrive in that very special place and begin a couple-week exploration of the quaint island communities, beautiful rocky shorelines and narrow channels.

In this episode, we take three 60-80 mile hops from Simrisham all of the way into the archipelago off of Göteborg. First, we navigate to and through the Falsterbo Canal in order to cut off a couple hours and the busy shipping lanes near Sweden’s southwestern point. On the next day, we sail past Copenhagen then Helsingborg/Helsingor and we leave the protection of the Oresund as we make our way further north. We anchor off of beautiful Hallands Väderö but depart very early the next day as our anchorage becomes dangerous with inbound swells and high winds. Tom injures himself on this next leg of our trip and I need to play Nurse Karen!

Join us next time as we really dive into exploring this beautiful archipelago!

Hope you enjoy!
