Marienplatz square: Dating back to the early 12th century, Marienplatz is now one of the most popular sights in central Munich. This medieval square is a great place to take pictures with its Gothic buildings, stone gargoyles and central column topped by a statue of the Virgin Mary. If you visit at 11 a.m., noon or 5 p.m., head to the north side of the square to see the Rathaus-Glockenspiel clock and watch a show of motorized figures dancing and jousting inside the tower. In the winter, usually three weeks before Christmas, you'll also have the opportunity to explore the lively Christkindlmarkt (Christmas market) that takes place in the middle of the square. It's the perfect time and place to spend a magical holiday in Munich.

Since Munich was founded in 1158 by Henry the Lion (Duke of Bavaria), Marienplatz has been the centre and heart of the city. Here the two main streets meet, decisive for the city's development and life over the centuries. To this day, Marienplatz is Munich's urban centre
Munich became home to several political factions, among them the Nazi Party. After the Nazis' rise to power, Munich was declared their Capital of the Movement.
The city was heavily bombed during World War II, but has restored most of its old town. After the end of postwar American occupation in 1949, there was a great increase in population and economic power during the years of Wirtschaftswunder also known as the Miracle on the Rhine, was the rapid reconstruction and development of the economies of West Germany and Austria after World War II. The city hosted the 1972 Summer Olympics.
Today, Munich is a global centre of science, technology, finance, innovation, business, and tourism. Munich enjoys a very high standard and quality of living, reaching first in Germany and third worldwide according to the 2018 Mercer survey and being rated the world's most liveable city by the Monocle's Quality of Life Survey 2018. Join us and enjoy an exciting walk in Munich, Germany on a bright and warm summer day.
We are starting our walk at Marienplatz which is a central square in the city centre of Munich with beautiful architecture and a bustling atmosphere. We can see the New City Hall on the north side which hosts the city government while on the east side the Old City Hall is located which serves today as a building for representative purposes for the city council.
Then, we visit a gorgeous, powerful, and scenic cathedral, the Frauenkirche, which is considered a symbol of the Bavarian capital city.
Finally, we are visiting a nice market with plenty of fruits and vegetables. Places where you can taste traditional German sandwich sausages or roasted pork with crispy skin.
