Discover GABON: A Major Producer of Oil and Manganese | 10 INTERESTING FACTS TO KNOW ABOUT IT

Gabon is a country located on the Atlantic coast of Central Africa. This small country in Central Africa may not be as well-known as some of its neighbours, but it's definitely worth learning more about. From its diverse wildlife to its unique culture and history, Gabon has a lot to offer.

The history of Gabon can be traced back to ancient times when the region was inhabited by various indigenous tribes. These tribes were primarily hunters and gatherers, and they lived off the land and resources of the rainforest. In the 15th and 16th centuries, Gabon was visited by European explorers and traders, who established contact with the indigenous tribes. The coastal regions of Gabon were also a major center for the transatlantic slave trade.

In the late 19th century, Gabon became a French colony, and it remained under French rule until 1960, when it gained independence. During this time, the French developed Gabon's infrastructure and economy, and they also used the country as a source of raw materials and labour.

After independence, Gabon's first president, Léon M'ba, led the country through a period of economic growth and stability. However, in the 1970s and 1980s, Gabon's economy declined, and the country faced political turmoil. In the 1990s, Gabon's economy began to recover, and the country has since experienced a period of stability and growth. Today, Gabon is a major oil producer and is considered one of the most prosperous countries in Africa.

Despite the country's stability and prosperity, Gabon has faced several challenges in recent years, including a decline in oil prices, and a lack of diversification in its economy. Gabon's current president, Ali Bongo Ondimba, has made efforts to diversify the economy and improve the standard of living for citizens, but the situation remains a work in progress.

Libreville is the capital and largest city of Gabon, a country located on the west coast of Central Africa. The city is situated on the Komo River estuary, and it has a population of around 703,904 people. Libreville was founded in the mid-19th century by freed slaves who were brought to the area by French traders. The city's name, which means free town in French, reflects this history.

Libreville is the economic and political center of Gabon, and it serves as the country's main port. The city is home to many government buildings, including the Presidential Palace and the National Assembly. It also has a vibrant business district, with many banks, hotels, and shops. The city's main industries include timber, oil, and fishing.

Libreville is also a cultural hub, with many museums, art galleries, and theaters. The city has a lively nightlife, with many bars, clubs, and restaurants. There are also many parks and gardens, including the Pongara National Park, which is located on the outskirts of the city and is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including chimpanzees and gorillas.

The city has a mix of modern and traditional architecture, with many colonial buildings and new skyscrapers. The city has a relatively good infrastructure, with good hospitals and schools, and regular public transport. It's a bustling city that offers a lot to visitors, from exploring the natural beauty of Gabon to experiencing the unique culture and history of the country.

Gabon is known for its diverse culinary traditions. The cuisine of Gabon is a blend of indigenous, European, and African influences.
One of the staple foods in Gabon is cassava, a root vegetable that is often used to make fufu, a dough-like dish that is often served with stews or soups. Plantains, yams, and corn are also common ingredients in Gabonese cuisine. Fish and seafood are also a staple, as Gabon is located on the Atlantic coast and has a rich variety of fish and seafood.
Meat is also an important part of Gabonese cuisine, with dishes such as grilled or smoked bushmeat (wild game) being popular. Chicken, beef, and pork are also commonly consumed, and are often prepared in stews or soups.

A popular Gabonese dish is Chicken Nyembwé, and it typically consists of chicken cooked in a sauce made with ground peanuts, onions, tomatoes, and other spices. The dish is said to be flavorful and hearty, and it is usually served with rice or other staple foods. It is not clear if the dish has any relation to the traditional dance and drumming music of the Fang people called Nyembwé.

Gabon's cuisine is a rich blend of indigenous, European, and African influences. The cuisine is characterized by the use of root vegetables, seafood, and meat, with an emphasis on flavorful stews and soups.

How Safe Is Gabon for Travel?

Full safety review:

Gabon is a country located in Western Central Africa.

It lies on the very Equator, and has a coastline along the Atlantic Ocean, while at the same time being squeezed in between the Republic of the Congo to the south and east, Equatorial Guinea to the northwest and Cameroon to the north.

And though it’s a small population, Gabon has reserves of oil and minerals which has made it one of Africa’s wealthier destinations.

Gabon is, overall, not that safe to visit. If you decide to go to Gabon, you should be aware that crime, poor road conditions, interruptions to power, and poor water quality are just some of the things tourists will have a problem with.

Discover MAURITANIA: Where FAT Is BEAUTIFUL | 10 Interesting Facts You DO NOT KNOW about Mauritania

At midnight on November 28, 1960, under a tent in Nouakchott, to which the capital was recently moved, the chosen president announces the independence of Mauritania from French colonialism in the presence of foreign press delegations and a number of French and African personalities. Since then, Mauritania is considered a link between the Arab and African worlds.

The word “Mauritania” was not used to refer to the geographical area currently known as “Mauritania.” As for the original name, it was “الشنقيط بالد/Bilad alshanqit” (In English: The land of alshanqit) and the inhabitants were called “الشناقطة /alshanaqita”, but France named the country “Mauritania” when it colonized it at the beginning of the last century.
I forgot to tell you why the words are in Arabic because the official language of the country is Arabic

The Mauritanian constitution stipulates the existence of four national languages, the first of which is Arabic (the official language of the country), along with the “Pularian” language, the “Millennium” language, and the “Sononic” language (African languages), but there is a fifth language that is not provided for in the constitution, which is the “Zanak” language (the Berber language), and this language is almost disappearing from the country.

The Parc National du Banc D’arguin, a UNESCO world heritage site. It is one of the largest bird sanctuaries and very popular amongst bird lovers all across the world. You can spot many migratory birds in the reserve. You can go birdwatching there. The Park comprises sand-dunes, coastal swamps, small islands, and shallow coastal waters. The contrast between the harsh desert

environment and the biodiversity of the marine zone has resulted in a land- and seascape of outstanding natural significance. A wide variety of migrating birds spends the winter there. Several species of sea turtle and dolphin, used by the fishermen to attract shoals of fish, can also be found.
9- “The Richat Structure”, an eye staring at you from space! It is a huge eye in the Mauritanian desert which is visible from space, and it ranks as one of the most incredible geological marvels of our world. Just imagine looking down on Earth from space and an eye is staring back at you. It is known that the diameter of this eye is around 40 km and it looks like a ‘bull’s eye’.

The exact reason for its creation is still unknown as while competing theories concerning its origins exist, the debate still rages among some scientists. Nature seems reluctant to yield its mysteries to mankind. Some evidence indicates that this astonishing Eye of the Sahara represents the remnants of a geologic dome that formed approximately 100 million years ago.

“Bay of Nouadhibou”, “The Graveyard of ships” The place where there are rusting hulks in every direction, and ships that were cheaper to illegally abandon in this harbor than to correctly dismantle.

The city of Nouadhibou is the second-largest city in Mauritania and serves as the country's commercial center. It is famous for being the location of one of the largest ship graveyards in the world. Hundreds of rusting ships can be seen all around, in the water, and on beaches.
Various historical records cite that the port city became a vessel graveyard during the late 20th century. However, the idea of using the peninsula as a ship graveyard predates back to the days of the
country’s French colonization during the 20s and peaked to substantial heights during the 80s.

In the past, there were several currencies circulating inside Mauritania. The Ouguiya is the only Arabic word among all the monetary conventions in Mauritania. All of the other terms are of European origin, so this authentic Arabic word was chosen as a name for the Mauritanian national currency.

You will learn in Mauritania to give more value and attention to the number five. Mauritania is one of only two countries in the world to not use a decimal currency! The other is Madagascar. The Ouguiya
is the currency of Mauritania. Each ouguiya constitutes five Khoums.
6- As a Mauritanian kid, we can expect now that you should now have a rooster’s farm dependent on the number of teeth you've replaced so far.
In Mauritania, when a child loses a tooth, their parents tell them to wrap up their tooth in a small piece of cloth and throw it as hard as they can onto the roof of their house. If they get up very early the next morning, they will find a rooster on the roof, and they can keep it. If they don't wake up early enough, they won't find the rooster.

Discover CONGO-BRAZZAVILLE: The Second CONGO | 10 INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT IT

Recently, we talked about the Democratic Republic of Congo. Today, I’m about to take you to the nation next door to DRC. Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the Republic of Congo, also known as Congo-Brazzaville. That’s right, Africa actually has 2 CONGOS. Some of you are probably wondering, what is the difference between Congo Brazzaville and the Democratic Republic of Congo? The answer is actually quite simple. First of all, the name Congo comes from the Bakongo, a people present in both countries. So that's why these two countries have a similar name.

Then, you should know that the difference between the DRC and Congo Brazzaville is that they were colonized by two different nations! We talked about it in our video on the Democratic Republic of Congo, this country found itself colonized by the Belgians, where Congo Brazzaville was colonized by the French. Another difference between the two countries is the currency: in Brazzaville, the currency is the Central African CFA.

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the most used currency is the US dollar, then the Congolese franc. Finally, one last difference is noticeable at the language level. If the two countries have French as an official language, all the other local languages and dialects are fundamentally different!

In Congo Brazzaville, the official language is the French language. It is spoken by more than half of the population, which is one of the highest rates on the continent, along with Gabon. Likewise, it is estimated that 90% of those over 15 can express themselves well in writing, showing that the official language is mastered. But it is not at all the only language spoken in the country, the others are mainly Bantu languages. The Bantu correspond to the geographical area stretching from Cameroon to the Comoros, and from Sudan to South Africa. This area is very large, and that's why there are over 400 different Bantu languages! However, in Congo Brazzaville the two most important national languages are Kituba and Lingala. Next come the téké and lari languages. There are still more than forty other languages in the country, but which are not Bantu. They are Pygmy languages. But then why was French chosen as the official language when we have so many national languages? According to Laval University, it would be because of the wars and civil wars that rocked the country. The French language would have become a language of refuge for the various armed factions. For example, people who are unsure of their skills prefer to speak French for safety reasons. It is also a way of keeping one's origin to oneself: with a language characteristic of a region, it is possible to receive derogatory remarks. By speaking French, we do not reveal our ethnicity.

Some of you may not know it, but the Republic of Congo has its other name, Congo Brazzaville, in reference to its capital. And yes, the latter is called Brazzaville and was founded on October 3, 1880. It is located in the south of the country, and has a very special history, which dates back to the time of colonization. At the time, the French had control over the territory, and wanted to create competition in Léopoldville, a town located on the opposite bank, on the DRC side. The aim was to seize power in order to explore and exploit the land along the Congo River. It was basically the small village of Mfoa that grew in importance over time, so much so that it was erected as the municipality of Brazzaville in 1911! Where does the name come from, do you think? It's simple, Brazzaville is taken from the name of a Franco-Italian explorer: Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza. It was in the capital that the Brazzaville conference took place in 1944. The purpose of this conference was to redefine, after World War II, relations between France and the African colonies. For the first time, we were talking about decolonization. This is a major historical element that played out in Brazzaville!

For this fifth fact, let's talk about one of the country's ecological prides. The Congo Basin forest is a tropical rainforest that extends over approximately 65% of the territory! Shared between six African countries, it is the second largest rainforest in the world after the Amazon rainforest. It is therefore the largest rainforest in Africa! In fact, she is one of the few to have an intact and completely sovereign nature.

Central African Republic is a nation that many people haven't heard of before, so I am excited to be in a position to put it on the map. I've explored the ins and outs of Bangui, the capital city, and it's full of surprises.

Join me in this wild episode budget episode where I show you how many things you can buy with $10 USD (6,000 CFA) in Bangui, Central African Republic.
