I SNEEK into a COUNTRY at WAR | Motorcycle World Tour | Africa #50

Here comes a very tense moment on the journey. Sneaky Nico is back. It is now time to cross the border between Nigeria and Cameroon and try to cross the area of Cameroon that is in a civil war, Ambazonia.
Ambazonia is the English speaking part of the country, that seeks independence and where groups of rebel militias have emerged, who brutally attack the French-speaking military. But the military is not so different and use the same terrorist tactics, go in, kill indiscriminately and get out.
As if that weren't enough, a couple of weeks before he arrived, the President banned the use of motorcycles in that area, as the terrorists use them for attacks and flee on them...
The atmosphere is very tense, on the road I see burnt cars and bullet casings, but one of the things that catches my eye, are the completely abandoned villages. For these people to give up everything they have, the place has to be extremely dangerous...

Here's another video for anyone who wants to understand a bit more about the Ambazonia conflict:

I DIDN'T EXPECT HIS REACTION | Motorcycle World Tour | Africa #53

I don't know very well where the conflict ends. There are fewer and fewer military controls and people's faces when they see me are a little more normal, but I still bump into some law enforcement who want to play with me... With this and that, Cameroon is cool.

Attempted ROBBERY in CAMEROON | Motorcycle World Tour | Africa #56

After climbing Mount Cameroon, I decide to set course for the south of the country. This means getting out of the conflicted English-speaking zone and entering the French-speaking area, where everyone tells me I'll be much safer...
But Murphy quickly appears...

ANGRY COP in BURKINA FASO | Motorcycle World Tour | Africa #31

I set out to leave Ivory Coast to enter Burkina Faso, known during colonization as Alto Volta. There has been an attack on the French embassy and because of my beard the police search every inch of my bags. The Carnet de Passages is totally unknown on the border I want to enter... Bureaucracy is not my favorite activity and neither, it seems, is it that of the customs agents around here...

RELEASED in CAMEROON | Motorcycle World Tour | Africa #54

After going to sleep over there in the trees, I have to try to get out of there and get back on my way. The rear tire is bad and worn out, mixed with a slippery, upward sloping terrain makes it a little complicated. Luckily, in the end, someone always comes to the rescue...

HOW DO YOU CROSS THIS BY MOTORCYCLE? | Motorcycle World Tour | Africa #59

After working on the bike, I head for the coast. I feel like camping on the beach for a few days. I am welcomed by a fishing village and I spend a wonderful few days by the sea. When I leave there, I run into a truck that just overturned, destroying on the bridge... and that's the only way out...

AFRICAN CORRUPTION | Motorcycle World Tour | Africa #30

I continue to advance towards the north of Ivory Coast, with the intention of crossing into Burkina Faso. This part of the country is full of military controls, as in many places, they try to take some money from me, but I play my cards to try to get out unscathed. Corruption is part of the continent, so the sooner you learn how to manage it, the better.

DESPERATE CHOICE | Motorcycle World Tour | Africa #23

What I thought it was going to be a mere formality, becomes a real odyssey. I'm still looking for a ferry to cross the Niger before night falls.
My ignorance of French makes it even more complicated. Asking you get to Rome, or so they say ...
Every time I'm more immersed in the adventure, the journey continues!

THE DANGERS OF NIGERIA | Motorcycle World Tour | Africa #43

Driving in Africa is quite an experience, but Nigeria, now, takes the biscuit. There are no rules, or at least no one respects them. Looks like everything is possible in this country. You have to adapt and drive with your eyes wide open. We continue to move through this peculiar country.

HOW TO PASS THROUGH A MILITARY CONTROL | Motorcycle World Tour | Africa #36

I leave Burkina Faso and enter a new country, Togo. It is always a joy to visit a new nation, it usually means new culture, new people, and new landscapes. I'm getting closer and closer to the jungle and it's becoming noticeable. Togo, like the vast majority of countries in the area, is full of military controls... It's not something I particularly like, but as they say, practice makes perfect. We keep moving forward...

Rolling into the UNKNOWN | Motorcycle World Tour | Africa #13

I go deeper into Mali just how I like to, on a remote road that takes me through rural areas. From the get go, Mali is giving me good vibes, though I’m not sure how far it’s safe to go, since the country is in the midst of a serious crisis, brought on in part by a Tuareg independence rebellion, which is branching off into several terrorist groups… The journey grows ever more interesting.
