Battling SEASICKNESS cruising past private ISLAND paradises (Mustique) | Ep 46 | Sailing Merewether

Progressing our way south along the windward islands of the Caribbean, we catch some fair winds boosting us around to see the beautiful private island of Mustique before arriving at a nice anchorage. Isabelle suffers from her arch nemesis the dreaded sea sickness, pushing through she contributes to the great conditions allowing Merewether to sail some 25 nM into another beautiful home for the night.

These places makes it all worth it | Ep33 | Sailing Merewether

This week we take on a mission to sail up wind to an island we've had our eye on for some time. Sailing into the strong 20 knot wind, we inch our way into a shallow bay and put down an anchor. With reef all around us we decide to put out a second anchor and then head to shore to enjoy one of our new favourite spots of St Vincent and the Grenadines.

5 day crossing: DANGEROUS hoisting mid passage in WAVY SEAS | Part 2 | Ep 54 | Sailing Merewether

We continue our 5 day crossing from Grenada to Curacao. On our 3rd day right at the time when you start to wind down and the sun sets, our furling system breaks (again!). I have to hoist Kieran up the mast while the waves threw the boat all over the place. He put in new grub screws and pieced the furling system back together 7 meters up in the air, safe to say I was a bit on edge.
Still dodging pirate waters off the Venezuela cost, we got a scare on the 4th night as a tanker ship suddenly appears on our port side, the Venezuelan side... He looked to be going the same path as us and then suddenly stopped. We were not so cocky at this point. He continued his path after what felt like hours and we had the waters to ourselves again.
Despite all this, we have never been more prepared for a longer crossing before, it was the best one yet! Being just us two we finally worked out a good shift schedule and sleeping routine, we felt more ready then ever to take on the big Pacific crossing in the coming months.

Bocas Del Toro!! Our new favourite anchorage has surf, hikes, beautiful beaches and a mass amount of islands to explore. This week we discover the richness and beauty of this hidden paradise. Even in covid times we can't get enough of this place. Hearing of a hike with Sloths to see we attempt to see one of these peculiar animals for the first time. Isabelle improves her surfing at one of the best surfing locations in the Caribbean. And we start to get very relaxed in a comfortable place.

Dodging PIRATE waters: 5 day crossing over VENEZUELA coast | Part 1 | Ep 53 | Sailing Merewether

This week we leave Grenada and our beloved windward islands, that's been our home for the last 10 months (!!), and we set sail for the five day long journey to Curacao. Hard to believe that we've been in the Caribbean for almost a year, but with all that has happen this year around the world, we feel very fortunate to have had the luxury and the privilege to sail around all these beautiful islands with our Covid-family.
As we set sail Kieran can't keep the excitement inside, truly enjoying sailing again and being one with the sailboat. I (Isabelle) is feeling very emotional, my sister had some major news and a reflection about our dream life and missing out on family and friends come into play...
Our biggest issue on longer passage; the autopilot, finally does he's job! A huge relief when we don't have to turn on the engine to charge the batteries, our 4 new solur panels and wind vane is working a treat! No more hand steering in the middle of the night!

SAILING in SAHARA DUST clouds | Ep 39 | Sailing Merewether

This week we sail away from our lockdown home, St Vincent and the Grenadines to make our way North to Martinique. Choosing a very gloomy time to sail, we make our way through a Sahara dust cloud that is covering the whole Caribbean and leaving a not so clear path for us to navigate through.

Minimal SLEEP, Strong WINDS make DANGEROUS conditions in the Caribbean | Ep 40 | Sailing Merewether

This week we try to sail from Cumberland, St Vincent to Martinique, but we face some pretty harsh North East wind while trying to make the dangerous passage. It was completely unexpected and we ended up not making it all the way. We were taken by surprise by the strong wind after an very early morning coming around the north of St Vincent. We were quite rusty sailing, having been chilling in the beautiful Grenadines over the last three months. Pushing through the fatigue, eating good food, cuddling in the cockpit and doing it together we never lost faith.

THIS is why we DO IT! | EP 67 | Sailing Merewether

This week we sail further into the Panama archipelago that is San Blas Islands, setting sail with our friends to another breath taking little island. Being totally off the grid is truly, amazing but we need internet to be able to upload these videos for you guys so we sailed to Green Island and an internet connection.

We share with you our anchoring techniques, the failure and ultimately Kieran-to-the-rescue anchor setting (our anchor is terrible).

I get scared when having a swim, due to the crocodile warning I got from our friends in the area (!!). I was unwilling to swim with them, however I did want to see them (from the comfort of our dinghy that being said) so we set out looking for them with our friends Magnus and Sandra... We ended up finding one of the things we were looking for. And I with a little help from a friend succeeded in my first hunt.

Ending the day the best way we know how - With a bbq on the beach with old and new friends. Does life get any better than this?

CRUISING to our very own PRIVATE Island UTOPIA | Ep 49 | Sailing Merewether

This week we get to our very own private island, totally secluded, we have it all to ourselves, the sun shining, white sandy beach, crystal clear blue water and our home is just parked 30 meters away - if this is not paradise what is? But getting there wasn't easy. Our depth meter decided not to work making it very hard to know where we could anchor, or where we possibly could hit the bottom (yikes). Kieran has to swim around the boat several times before he manually place our anchor on the seafloor. After three or four goes with Isabelle at the helm, it sets and we are anchored. We will never forget this day!

GLIDING back down to our second ISLAND home COVID free | Ep 45 | Sailing Merewether

This week we get some really good news, we don't have the Covid virus and are therefore free to explore the Caribbean as we please (or almost). We sail from Blue Lagoon in St Vincent back to our beloved Grenadines. Kieran describes it as a bit of Groundhog day, but is later spotted with a smile on his face... We finally hike up to the view point in Bequia in the sunny 35 degree weather. Listen to Caribbean music and meet a lot of animal friends to Isabelle's delight.

Possible HURRICANE, Taking SHELTER in the MANGROVES | Ep 42 | Sailing Merewether

This week we seek shelter in the mangroves in Martinique after seeing a storm and possible hurricane that might hit the windward islands. Together with our friends we suss out a protected spot right in the mangroves. Isabelle climbs into the mangrove jungle and ties four, five lines to Merewether, and we prepare for the strong winds that awaits.

SAILING our friends LAGOON to dream Island | Ep 38 | Sailing Merewether

This week we jump on our friends Lagoon 42, our whole big convoy joins and we sail to the dream Island Mopion in The Grenadines. This was our first time sailing a Catamaran and lets face it, both Kieran and myself were pretty excited. Almost everyone from our big COVID family sailed together, laughing fishing and adjusting sails. Arriving on the beautiful sand bank, we had the perfect afternoon building sandcastles, snorkelling and taking sneaky drone footage. What a day!

RAINY Season brings us all the WEATHER that comes with it | Ep 47 | Sailing Merewether

This week we discover the extremes of rainy season in the Caribbean facing squall after squall. We find a very wealthy deserted marina town that should be the set of a horror movie haha. Getting hit with a 30 knot squall on anchor we drift very close to a nearby reef while getting drenched with rain.

We sailed to Jurassic Park | Ep35 | Sailing Merewether

This week we find ourselves in Jurassic Park. We hire a car with our New Zealand friends SV Wave and hike up Saint Vincent's highest point, La Soufrière. The lush green jungle reminds us of the movie Jurassic Park, and Isabelle gives her best Raptor imitation. We thoroughly enjoy being on land for once and exploring the raw island Saint Vincent.

CRUISING into COLOURS, CULTURE and a CAPTIVATING city (CARTAGENA) | Ep 63 | Sailing Merewether

Unreal city vibes captivating us this week, ticking off one of our bucket list cities, the colours and culture blow us away. Cartagena proves to be everything we hoped for in Colombia giving us an amazing display of culture and a very protected anchorage. Cruising out of Santa Marta we get a visit from some waves catching dolphins which always leaves us in good spirits for the start of a long journey. Really seeing the sediment flowing out of our first South American country we get a taste the water colour. Finally pulling into a very protected port we see the high rise buildings that surround us as a playground for us to discover.
