Discover MAURITANIA: Where FAT Is BEAUTIFUL | 10 Interesting Facts You DO NOT KNOW about Mauritania

At midnight on November 28, 1960, under a tent in Nouakchott, to which the capital was recently moved, the chosen president announces the independence of Mauritania from French colonialism in the presence of foreign press delegations and a number of French and African personalities. Since then, Mauritania is considered a link between the Arab and African worlds.

The word “Mauritania” was not used to refer to the geographical area currently known as “Mauritania.” As for the original name, it was “الشنقيط بالد/Bilad alshanqit” (In English: The land of alshanqit) and the inhabitants were called “الشناقطة /alshanaqita”, but France named the country “Mauritania” when it colonized it at the beginning of the last century.
I forgot to tell you why the words are in Arabic because the official language of the country is Arabic

The Mauritanian constitution stipulates the existence of four national languages, the first of which is Arabic (the official language of the country), along with the “Pularian” language, the “Millennium” language, and the “Sononic” language (African languages), but there is a fifth language that is not provided for in the constitution, which is the “Zanak” language (the Berber language), and this language is almost disappearing from the country.

The Parc National du Banc D’arguin, a UNESCO world heritage site. It is one of the largest bird sanctuaries and very popular amongst bird lovers all across the world. You can spot many migratory birds in the reserve. You can go birdwatching there. The Park comprises sand-dunes, coastal swamps, small islands, and shallow coastal waters. The contrast between the harsh desert

environment and the biodiversity of the marine zone has resulted in a land- and seascape of outstanding natural significance. A wide variety of migrating birds spends the winter there. Several species of sea turtle and dolphin, used by the fishermen to attract shoals of fish, can also be found.
9- “The Richat Structure”, an eye staring at you from space! It is a huge eye in the Mauritanian desert which is visible from space, and it ranks as one of the most incredible geological marvels of our world. Just imagine looking down on Earth from space and an eye is staring back at you. It is known that the diameter of this eye is around 40 km and it looks like a ‘bull’s eye’.

The exact reason for its creation is still unknown as while competing theories concerning its origins exist, the debate still rages among some scientists. Nature seems reluctant to yield its mysteries to mankind. Some evidence indicates that this astonishing Eye of the Sahara represents the remnants of a geologic dome that formed approximately 100 million years ago.

“Bay of Nouadhibou”, “The Graveyard of ships” The place where there are rusting hulks in every direction, and ships that were cheaper to illegally abandon in this harbor than to correctly dismantle.

The city of Nouadhibou is the second-largest city in Mauritania and serves as the country's commercial center. It is famous for being the location of one of the largest ship graveyards in the world. Hundreds of rusting ships can be seen all around, in the water, and on beaches.
Various historical records cite that the port city became a vessel graveyard during the late 20th century. However, the idea of using the peninsula as a ship graveyard predates back to the days of the
country’s French colonization during the 20s and peaked to substantial heights during the 80s.

In the past, there were several currencies circulating inside Mauritania. The Ouguiya is the only Arabic word among all the monetary conventions in Mauritania. All of the other terms are of European origin, so this authentic Arabic word was chosen as a name for the Mauritanian national currency.

You will learn in Mauritania to give more value and attention to the number five. Mauritania is one of only two countries in the world to not use a decimal currency! The other is Madagascar. The Ouguiya
is the currency of Mauritania. Each ouguiya constitutes five Khoums.
6- As a Mauritanian kid, we can expect now that you should now have a rooster’s farm dependent on the number of teeth you've replaced so far.
In Mauritania, when a child loses a tooth, their parents tell them to wrap up their tooth in a small piece of cloth and throw it as hard as they can onto the roof of their house. If they get up very early the next morning, they will find a rooster on the roof, and they can keep it. If they don't wake up early enough, they won't find the rooster.

17-year-old Evann crosses the Mauritanian Sahara off-road with a Gorilla electric Fat Bike, Athlete model.
20 days from North to South and 1500 kilometers covered.

A unique experience, a plunge into the immensity of the Sahara, in the most remote area of the Sahara. First water point 500 km from the start and first oasis 900 km.

His father follows him in a 2CV to recharge the Fat Bike batteries and shoot the crossing.

For Evann, this expedition is above all a discovery of the desert and the rare nomads encountered.
This is neither a sporting feat nor a record crossing in autonomy.
Indeed, the Fat Bike is electric and Evann will only carry with him survival equipment.

This crossing is not possible with a muscular Fat Bike in autonomy, if only for the transport of water.

Tanzanian Girl Invites me to her house in Zanzibar! ????????

During my stay in Zanzibar I spent 2 weeks in the lovely village of Paje where I met a very nice girl that invited me to have lunch at her house.
The first time I went to her house I ate rice with meat and vegetables that is a very common meal in Zanzibar, however in this video was my second time eating at her house we haven't got much time so she prepared something easier.
By the way even if it wasn't the most typical meal I decided to upload the video to show you how Tanzanian people cook and eat in their home with I found it pretty interesting.

10 INTERESTING FACTS TO KNOW ABOUT MOZAMBIQUE

Mozambique is located on the southeast coast of Africa. The capital, Maputo, is to the south, near the coast. The land area of the country is 308,642 square miles (799,509 square kilometers). The terrain ranges from tropical forests and swamps to mountains, meadows, sand dunes and beaches. The Zambezi River is an important natural resource, providing electricity through the Cahora Bassa Dam, one of Africa's largest hydropower projects. The Zambezi flows from west to east and divides the country into northern and southern regions which diverge, to some extent, in terms of culture and history as well as climate.

There are two main seasons: the wet season from November to March and the dry season from April to October. Drought is common, especially in the south. However, the country has also experienced devastating floods, the most recent in 1999. Mozambique has a great diversity of animals, including zebras, water buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, lions, hippos and wild animals. crocodiles. The country has created national parks and game reserves where these animals are protected.

Mozambique is ranked among the countries with the most beautiful train stations in the world. Take the example of Maputo Central Station.
Indeed, Maputo surprises at every turn with its mix of architecture. Surrounded by colossal rationalist buildings in the heart of Baixa, it is the train station, listed as one of the most beautiful in the world. From the elegant main building is accessed two platforms covered by a roof full of wrought iron ornaments and supported by beautiful columns and ornate beams. There are also details from another era: wall clocks, huge ceiling fans, beautiful Portuguese tiles, carved wooden doors, iron benches, large bells ...

This station, built in a beautiful colonial building at the beginning of the 20th century on the plans of Gustave Eiffel, is still in operation. It has undergone a redevelopment of these quays, which today host exhibitions and local artists. It is also a famous place to come and listen to jazz concerts on certain evenings of the month. They take place in the bar / restaurant of the station. It is recommended to go there during rush hour to come and watch the movement of people.

The ‘Ponta de Ouro’ Partial Marine Reserve, which is Africa's first transboundary marine conservation area along with Kosi Bay in South Africa, is well known for its rich biodiversity. This is where 80% of the loggerhead and leatherback turtle nesting sites in Mozambique are concentrated. In 2015, however, it was estimated that at least 70% of the vulnerable population living along this coastline depended heavily on exhaustible fishery resources.

In 2018, the Ponta de Ouro Partial Marine Reserve merged with its land neighbor, the Maputo Special Reserve. These two protected areas now form a single whole, supervised by a dedicated and firmly established team which ensures coordination between organizations in the area. At the same time, steps have been taken to prepare a dossier aimed at inscribing the coast of the Ponta de Ouro Partial Marine Reserve as a World Heritage Site, in the extension of the adjacent South African coast.

Mozambican cuisine is mainly composed of cassava, millet flour, rice, fish or seafood. Ginger, lime, coconut milk and chili (piri-piri) are the basic flavors. . Mozambique's culinary tradition is marked by its history. As early as the Middle Ages, Arab traders transported spices through the Silk Road from India to Africa, to Mozambique.

In the 15th century, Mozambique became a Portuguese colony. Located on the shores of the Indian Ocean and placed on the Spice Route (a trade route connecting Portugal to India via the Atlantic, then via the Indian Ocean), it is always amply supplied with spices.
Mozambican cuisine has intimately integrated the colors of Indian curries (caril) brought by these Arab and then Portuguese merchants. It was also inspired by the richness of Portuguese cuisine, for example by incorporating potatoes.

After independence, Mozambican cultural institutions underwent a fundamental transformation, as the new government sought to eliminate the influences of the colonial era. Some of these institutions remained closed, but most eventually reopened in a different form. Gustave Eiffel's famous iron house serves as an administrative center for some of the country's cultural departments. The Historical Archives of Mozambique, the Museum of the Revolution, the National Currency Museum, the Geology Museum, the National Art Museum and the Natural History Museum, all located in Maputo, contain the main collections, archives and libraries.
