5 Cameroon Unique Cultural Experiences | 5 Expériences culturelles uniques au Cameroun | ARM TV

5 Unique Cultural Experiences Not to Miss in Cameroon

Cameroon's coastline lies on the Bight of Biafra, part of the Gulf of Guinea
and the Atlantic Ocean. Its landscape is unique and so are its people. With over 250 ethnic groups, Cameron is a true melting pot of people and cultures.

5. The Musgum Mud hut architecture.
Musgum mud huts or Musgum dwelling units are traditional domestic
structures built of mud by the ethnic Musgum people in the Maga
sub-division, Mayo-Danay division, Far North Province in Cameroon. The
dwellings were built in a variety of shapes, such as tall domed or conical
dwellings or huts, some with a reverse-V shape, and others with geometric
designs.

The Musgum people in Cameroon constructed their mud houses with
compressed sun-dried mud. Earth is still used as a building material and
appears environmentally more acceptable for low cost housing, as cement
production releases large amounts of carbon emissions. Mud is laid over a
thatch of lashed reeds. They are compared to adobe structures or variants
of cob structures, which are made from sand, clay, water, and some kind of
fibrous or organic material such as sticks, straw, and/or manure. Although
of simple design, they are well planned from a utility viewpoint.

4. The Dschang Museum of Civilization.
The museum of civilizations of Dschang is a museum of Cameroon
created in 2011 in Dschang , in the department of Menoua and the West
region , and located on the edge of the Municipal Lake.
The Museum of Civilization invites you to discover the origins of the
Cameroonian people and the diversity of four major cultural areas of the
country through their history but also their artistic productions,
architecture, political and societal organizations.

How Safe Is Cameroon for Travel?

Full safety review:

Cameroon is a country located in West Africa, sharing its borders with Nigeria to the west, Chad to the northeast, the Central African Republic to the east and Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, and the Republic of the Congo to the south.

This country, known as “Africa in miniature” unites all the typical African features such as French and English speaking portions, Muslim and Christian dominated regions, and both mountainous and rain forest regions.

Overall generally speaking, Cameroon isn’t a safe country. It has its fair share of street crime, terrorism, diseases and natural hazards. If you do travel there, apply maximum measures of precaution in order to lessen the chances of something going wrong.

MAP OF CAMEROON

Cameroon ; French: Cameroun, Fula: Kamerun), officially the Republic of Cameroon (French: République du Cameroun), is a country in west-central Africa. It is bordered by Nigeria to the west and north; Chad to the northeast; the Central African Republic to the east; and Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and the Republic of the Congo to the south. Its coastline lies on the Bight of Biafra, part of the Gulf of Guinea and the Atlantic Ocean. Due to its strategic position at the crossroads between West Africa and Central Africa, it has been categorized as being in both camps. Its nearly 27 million people speak 250 native languages.

Early inhabitants of the territory included the Sao civilisation around Lake Chad, and the Baka hunter-gatherers in the southeastern rainforest. Portuguese explorers reached the coast in the 15th century and named the area Rio dos Camarões (Shrimp River), which became Cameroon in English. Fulani soldiers founded the Adamawa Emirate in the north in the 19th century, and various ethnic groups of the west and northwest established powerful chiefdoms and fondoms. Cameroon became a German colony in 1884 known as Kamerun. After World War I, it was divided between France and the United Kingdom as League of Nations mandates. The Union des Populations du Cameroun (UPC) political party advocated independence, but was outlawed by France in the 1950s, leading to the national liberation insurgency fought between French and UPC militant forces until early 1971. In 1960, the French-administered part of Cameroon became independent, as the Republic of Cameroun, under President Ahmadou Ahidjo. The southern part of British Cameroons federated with it in 1961 to form the Federal Republic of Cameroon. The federation was abandoned in 1972. The country was renamed the United Republic of Cameroon in 1972 and back to the Republic of Cameroon in 1984 by a presidential decree by president Paul Biya. Paul Biya, the incumbent president, has led the country since 1982 following Ahidjo's resignation; he previously held office as prime minister from 1975 on. Cameroon is governed as a Unitary Presidential Republic.

The official languages of Cameroon are French and English, the official languages of former French Cameroons and British Cameroons. Its religious population is predominantly Christian, with a significant minority practicing Islam, and others following traditional faiths. It has experienced tensions from the English-speaking territories, where politicians have advocated for greater decentralisation and even complete separation or independence (as in the Southern Cameroons National Council). In 2017, tensions over the creation of an Ambazonian state in the English-speaking territories escalated into open warfare.

Large numbers of Cameroonians live as subsistence farmers. The country is often referred to as Africa in miniature for its geological, linguistic and cultural diversity. Its natural features include beaches, deserts, mountains, rainforests, and savannas. Its highest point, at almost 4,100 metres (13,500 ft), is Mount Cameroon in the Southwest Region. Its most populous cities are Douala on the Wouri River, its economic capital and main seaport; Yaounde, its political capital; and Garoua. Limbe in the Southwest has a natural seaport. Cameroon is well known for its native music styles, particularly Makossa, Njang and Bikutsi, and for its successful national football team. It is a member state of the African Union, the United Nations, the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), the Commonwealth of Nations, Non-Aligned Movement and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. #cameroon #cameroun #mapschool #mapsolo #mapas #mapas

Discover UGANDA: 10 INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT THIS EAST AFRICAN COUNTRY

Uganda, which is officially referred to as the Republic of Uganda or Jamhuri ya Uganda, is an East African country. As of 2021, the United Nations data for Uganda's population stands at 47.7 million people. This landlocked country is bordered to the east by Kenya, to the North by South Sudan, to the West by the Democratic Republic of Congo, to the South West by Rwanda and to the South by Tanzania.

Uganda is a multilingual nation. 43 of its languages fall into 4 main families; Bantu, Nilotic and Central Sudanic, with another 2 languages in the Kuliak family. Of these, 41 are indigenous and 2 are non-indigenous. Additionally, 5 are institutional, 27 are developing, 7 are vigorous, 2 are in trouble and 2 are dying.

English was inherited from the colonial period. English and Swahili are the official languages of Uganda, even though English is more popular. The English dialect spoken in Uganda is sometimes called Uglish or Ugandan English and a rich flavor characterizes the language. It is strongly influenced by native languages and speakers in Uganda always alter non-native words so that they sound more euphonic.

Swahili is not as widespread even though it was made an official national language in September, 2005. In 2010, the government of Uganda revealed plans to establish a Kiswahili council to boost the teaching of the Swahili language in the country. It was not until September 9, 2019 that the Cabinet passed resolution to create the National Kiswahili Council.
The Luganda language has more than 4 million speakers in Uganda, in addition to non-native speakers. The language falls under the greater Niger-Congo language family. It is primarily spoken in the Buganda region, which sits in Central Uganda and includes the capital of Kampala. Luganda was used as the official language of instruction in East Uganda's primary schools until the 1960s. Currently, Luganda is the country's most spoken local language.

Other native languages of uganda include; Nyoro, Tooro, Rukiga and Lunyole.

In Uganda's constitution, there is also Ugandan Sign Language used by Ugandan deaf communities.

Kampala is the commercial capital and largest city of Uganda, bordering Lake Victoria which is Africa's largest lake. The city has a population of about 1.68 million people and is reported to be among the fastest growing cities in Africa, with an annual population growth rate of 4.03 percent.
It is a hilly place with valleys filled with sluggish rivers and swamps. The highest point in the city is the summit of Kololo hill at 1311 metres, in the centre of the city, and the lowest point at the shores of Lake Victoria south of the city centre at an altitude of 1135 metres.

Kampala was originally built on 7 hills but has expanded to cover more than those. The original hills are; Old Kampala hill, Mengo hill, Kibuli hill, Namirembe hill, Lubaga hill, Nsambya hill and Nakasero hill. The city is located on the East African plateau between 2 arms of the East African Rift and on the northern limits of Tanzania Craton and has a tropical rainforest climate.

These hills covered with red-tile villas and trees surround an urban centre of contemporary skyscrapers. In this downtown area, the Uganda museum explores the country's tribal heritage through an extensive collection of artefacts. On Mengo Hill is Lubiri Palace which was the former seat of the Buganda Kingdom.

Situated in the country's most prosperous agricultural section, Kampala exports coffee, cotton, tea, tobacco and sugar. The city has numerous food, metal and furniture entreprises as well as a tractor assembly plant. It is the headquarters for most of Uganda's large firms and the chief market for the Lake Victoria region. There is also a technical institute in Kampala and it the seat of Makerere University which was founded in 1922, became a university college in 1949 and a university in 1970. The city is home to several mosques, Hindu temples and Christian churches.

Bayangam Pics with African Proverbs (Cameroon Photography)

This video is about Bayangam, a small village in the Western part of Cameroon. In this video, I just give a glimpse of the environment and its people through some African words of wisdom. The music is from an artist named Topito. Life is easy, the environment beautiful and the people wonderful with deep roots in both tradition and modernism. The approach I took in this video was to present a combo of things mainly nature, people and cultural things like the 3 legged chair made out of a single piece of a tree trunk.
My inspiration to document peoples lives during my trips is deeply inspired by Ted of the Art of Photography and many others on Youtube.
The equipment used is mainly Fuji Xt2 with additional pics taken with the Fuji X100s and my trusted Nikon D600.
Visit Cameroon (`Afrique en miniature`); its environment, food and people are wonderful...
