This was such an amazing trip we were fortunate enough to take! Saipan is the second largest island In the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands - CNMI.
Saipan has pristine beaches, championship golf courses, world class diving and snorkeling. Visitors can experience a variety of cultural and historical sites as well as recreational events
Saipan’s torquiose blue water hides wrecks and remnants of the Pacific War and is a snorker and scuba diver’s paradise. Towering cliffs and pristine jungle lures hikers with caves still filled with the detritus of a war now remembered by years round ceremonies held at inspiring peace memorials of many nations.
A trip to “The last Command Post” of the Japanese Imperial Army or the “Suicide Cliff” where thousands tragically kept to their deaths or the old Japanese Jail where aviatrix Amelia Earhart was thought to be held captive are worthwhile and exciting attractions.
Tiny Managaha Island inside Saipan’s blue lagoon is a must see, and boasts crystal waters ideal for first rate snorkeling and water sports. The cavernous Grotto is rated as the #2 dive spot in all of the Pacific and numerous shore dives await the eager diver.

Must See Ancient Pictographs & Chamorro Village on Rota (Northern Mariana Islands)
Follow along as we explore 4 historical sites that take you back in time to see how the ancient Chamorros lived and told their stories. Sites in this video are the Chugai' Pictograph Cave, Mochong Ancient Chamorro Village, As Nieves Latte Stone Quarry and a recreation of the House of the Maga'låhi and ancient Chamorro homes in Songsong village.
**Although the representational homes are not officially named a historical site, they are currently a work in progress to show how each Chamorro home was built in each centurv.

대지는 겸손하고, 바다는 부드러우며, 하늘은 평화를 닮았다. 이곳이 바로 티니안이다. 나는 고기잡이를 마친 부자의 초청으로 이들의 집을 방문하기로 했다. 여행이 주는 설렘보다 더 큰 기대감이 느껴진다. 티니안은 사이판 보다 작은 섬이지만 대중 교통수단이 없기에 이동할 때 차량이 꼭 필요하다. 섬의 유일한 마을, 산호세에 알렉스 씨의 집이 자리하고 있다. 2남 3녀를 둔 다복한 가정이다. 아보카도까지 직접 키우고 있는 알렉스 씨. 집에서 모든 것을 자급자족하기 위해 노력하고 있다. 환상의 생선이라 불리는 유니콘피시. 갓 잡은 이 물고기를 즉석에서 바로 바비큐 숯불 위에 올린다. 신기한 것은 내장 손질 없이 바로 요리가 가능하다는 것이다. 노릇 노릇 잘 익은 닭고기와 바삭 바삭 구워지는 생선의 조화. 오늘 저녁도 진수성찬이 따로 없을 것 같다. 낮과 밤 사이, 오묘한 시간. 드디어 식사 준비가 끝났다. 먹음직스런 음식이 접시에 담기자 지금껏 참아왔던 식욕이 왕성해진다. 그런데 아직 먹을 수 없다. 유니콘피시를 먹기 좋게 뼈 바르는 작업이 남아있다. 등지느러미를 이용해 한 번에 등뼈를 제거하는 전통 방법을 배웠다. 보기만 해도 입맛을 돋운다. 이 지역의 매운 고추를 이용해 만든 소스를 살짝 뿌리고 딱딱한 껍질 속에 감춰졌던 탱탱한 속살을 한 입 가득 맛 봤다. 절대 잊을 수 없는 맛이었다. 첫째 딸, 소바나가 멀리서 온 나를 위해 특별한 노래를 불러준단다. 좀 부끄러워하긴 했지만 노래 솜씨가 멋지다. 가족들과 함께 하는 시간이 점점 깊어져 간다.

Navigating Cultures: Seafaring Returns to the CNMI
After centuries of declining practice, traditional seafaring is finding its way back into day-to-day CNMI life.
This movement is fueled by a cultural collaboration between Chamorro and Refaluwasch sailors and boat builders. While distinct, the seafarers of these groups have shared sea lanes since ancient times, and today maintain a passion for perpetuating the knowledge of their ancestors with the next generation of Pacific peoples.
