Rhino hit car in Kruger National Park

This car was hit by a frightened Rhino in June 2018 near Satara in Kruger National Park.
The tourists was on a self drive tour travelling on a gravel road next to a river and were surprised by a Rhino when they went around a sharp bend in the road. They could not stop quick enough nor get out of the Rhinos way and was hit by the frightened animal. Luckily for both the visitors and the Rhino it was just a grazing shot. The Rhino ran away and left the visitors with shock and a damaged car.

Rhino charges a safari vehicle in Kruger National Park

South Africa is home to 83% of Africa's rhinos and 73% of all wild rhinos worldwide and is an incredibly important country for rhino conservation. However rhino poaching has reached a crisis point, and if the killing continues at this rate, we could see rhino deaths overtaking births in 2016-2018, meaning rhinos could go extinct in the very near future. Good news however is that some rhino are starting to fight back. The following video might be disturbing to some viewers as one such rhino mistakes a tourist safari vehicle for poachers and charges with force in Kruger National Park.

All jokes aside - Rhino poaching is a serious problem and we will only be able to stop poaching if we all get involved. Do your bit by spreading the word, donating to a reputable organization that combats poaching or applying pressure to the applicable authorities to end the carnage. Brought to you by

Rhino Traffic Jam Kruger National Park Biggest Road Block Ever

Rhino protesters stop traffic and cause a huge roadblock in the Kruger national park, South Africa. This is the biggest traffic gridlock that I have ever experienced when visiting the park and as always It brings out the best and the worst drivers as always. The bus driver is the perfect example of how not to behave when visiting the park as he tries to force his way past these peaceful animals. The Kruger Park belongs to the animals and as visitors we must obey the rules.

Rhino Encounter in Kruger National Park, South Africa

Kruger National Park in South Africa is one of the largest game reserves in Africa, covering an area of 19,485 km2 (7,523 sq mi). It is home to an estimated 8000 white rhinos, 300 black rhinos and over 13,000 elephants. Between 2007 and 2014 the rhino population in South Africa suffered from an exponential growth in poaching, with most illegal activity occurring in Kruger Park.

Poaching numbers have decreased in recent years, however, it’s estimated that a rhino is illegally killed every 15 hours across South Africa. Elephants and rhinos play an important role as ‘nature’s gardeners’ by maintaining the biodiversity within their ecosystem. If these great animals were to go extinct the consequences could be irreversible.

Elephant vs. Car Attack in Kruger National Park, South Africa

Unbelievably, the same bull elephant tried to attack us twice in the same day -- first when we were driving our little rental car, and then again when we were in an open bus with a group and a guide.

Kruger National Park in South Africa is one of the largest game reserves in the world. And what makes it extra special is you can do-it-yourself safaris. My friend Gabriel and I borrowed a tent and camping gear from a friend of a friend and rented a small car at the airport.

Male elephants are the largest land animals, weighing up to 13,000 pounds. The females are about half that size. We had no idea that a large elephant, although normally gentle in nature, can actually flip over a car when angered. I was driving our car (on the left side of the road, British style) while my friend Gabriel was using my iPhone to videotape the herd of elephants on the side. Suddenly, the bull had had enough and decided to charge us.

Gabriel was freaking out because I was still driving very slowly. He yelled Camina, camina, camina in Spanish, which usually translates as walk, walk, walk. What he meant was hurry up, but I was confused and didn't move faster until I finally realized what had just happened. We were very lucky. Later we saw photos of cars that were punctured, windshields shattered, and even cars overturned by angry elephants.

Since we couldn't drive around at night, we paid for a group tour. The weirdest thing happened. This same bull elephant charged our bus. The driver was trained and experienced. She kept revving up the engine as the elephant backed up on the road. He finally stepped aside so we could pass, then started chasing us again.

Days later, as we were trying to exit the park before dark, we got stuck en route due to a herd of elephants mingling on the road. We didn't dare approach them or honk, so we had to wait almost an hour before they finally wandered off. By the time we got to Phalaborwa Gate it was locked. It took quite a while, but finally with a bribe we were able to convince the guard to open it for us. Our friends who had loaned us the tent had expected us much earlier, but luckily they were understanding. After all, this is Africa and anything can happen.

Bad Example | Angry Elephant Attack | Self-Drive | Kruger National Park | South Africa

We narrowly escaped from an angry bull elephant! Not trying to sneak pass an elephant blocking the road again. Was truly scared for a bit as they always seemed so gentle and peaceful in all our other encounters. Still LOVE elephants though!
