If you are unable to visit Suva, take a virtual tour and re-live your experiences through the video. Those that have never visited Suva or Fiji, here's something that may give you a feel of the city centre.
Suva was founded in 1849 and became the new capital of Fiji in 1882. It became a city in 1952. Levuka was the old capital of Fiji.
There are many historical facts about the place which could not have been covered in the video as the pace had to be faster to cover the most.
Thanks to my friend Akanisi Vuiyasawa for accompanying me in one of my trips to record the video and highlight the places of interest.
SUVA - FIJI TOUR: Economic and Cultural Capital of the South Pacific
Suva is the capital city of Fiji and is located on the southeast coast of the island of Viti Levu. The city has a rich history dating back to the early 19th century when it was a small village. The city's development began when it was chosen as the capital of Fiji in 1882. Suva's unique blend of Fijian and colonial architecture makes it a popular tourist destination.
Tourism is an important part of Suva's economy, with many visitors attracted to the city's cultural and historical sites. One of the most popular attractions is the Fiji Museum, which displays the country's history and culture. The Suva Municipal Market is also a popular destination, offering fresh produce and local crafts.
The architecture of Suva reflects the city's diverse history. Buildings range from traditional Fijian bure huts to Victorian-era colonial buildings. One of the most notable examples of colonial architecture is the Government Buildings, which houses the offices of the Prime Minister and other government officials.
Suva has a tropical rainforest climate, with temperatures ranging from 23 degrees Celsius or 73 degrees Fahrenheit to 30 degrees Celsius or 86 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the year. The wet season runs from November to April, with the dry season from May to October.
The demographics of Suva are diverse, with a mix of indigenous Fijians, Indo-Fijians, and other ethnic groups. The city is home to several universities and colleges, including the University of the South Pacific and the Fiji National University.
Fijian cuisine is a blend of indigenous Fijian, Indian, and Chinese influences. Some popular dishes in Suva include kokoda, a dish of raw fish marinated in lime juice and coconut cream, and palusami, a dish of taro leaves and coconut cream.
Suva has a diverse economy, with a mix of government, commercial, and industrial sectors. The city is home to many government offices, as well as businesses involved in tourism, manufacturing, and agriculture. The Port of Suva is also an important hub for shipping and trade in the South Pacific.

Suva - the capital of Fiji HD
Suva is the capital of Fiji. It lies on the southeast coast of the main island of Viti Levu and is well worth a guided tour. Our guide showed us downtown, Harbour Centre, Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna Statue of the City Centre, Fiji parliament, Albert Park, the Fiji Museum, the guard at the entrance of the presidential palace and the many bats. After a little shopping spree in Downtown the short visit was also fast. I thought it was worth it.

Unser Guide zeigte uns Downtown, Harbour Center, Statue of Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna, das City center, Fiji parliament, das Fiji Museum, Die Wache am Eingang des Präsidentenpalastes und die vielen Flughunde. Nach einer kleinen Shopping tour in Downtown war der Kurzbesuch auch schnell vorbei. Ich fand , es hat sich gelohnt.

Join us as we continue our adventure around the Pacific Island of Fiji. Today we are taking you to Suva, the capital of Fiji and the country’s largest city.
Thanks to our partner Avis Car Rentals ( we reached Suva in just over an hour. The drive itself was quite pleasant because of the amazing nature and beautiful scenery along the coast.
Upon arriving, we first headed to the Grand Pacific Hotel, affectionately known as 'The Grand Old Lady' of Suva, The hotel reminded us of a cruise ship with its open-style interior and a massive pool where guests could go to relax and sip on refreshing cocktails.
The next stop on the agenda was Thurston Garden - the national botanical garden of Fiji. Even though the weather was super hot and humid, we had a very nice walk around the garden.
As you probably know, we love visiting local markets and trying fresh produce. So after our walk, we decided to give the biggest market in Suva a try. You guessed it, they had almost every tropical fruit and vegetable possible at very affordable prices.
Once out of the market, we continued our tour around Suva. Even though the town was small and there was not much to see and do, we still enjoyed every minute we spent exploring it.
We grabbed some food, checked out the Sacred Heart Cathedral, and stopped by the Presidential Palace. We also learned a lot about the Fijian communal lifestyle, culture, and history.
BTW, did you know that Fiji was the last cannibal culture in the modern world? Naturally, this tradition ended a long time ago, but the name stuck around for a while, so Fiji was also known as the Cannibal Islands.
Before we left Suva, we made one final stop at the Grand Pacific Hotel for refreshments. Then, as the sun was setting over the ocean, we started on our drive back to the Home Exchange.
Avis Car Rentals made sure we had a comfortable and safe vehicle for the entire duration of our stay in Fiji, so we could discover as much of the island as possible. On our way, we stopped for groceries at a massive HyperMart and were surprised by the large variety of Asian foods and goods.
Upon arriving back home, we had a delicious, home-cooked meal waiting for us! This was the first Home Exchange we stayed at with a housekeeper who took care of all our needs around the house and prepared such amazing meals each day.

Damodar City Centre is the hub for shopping, food and entertainment. Address 30 Grantham Road, Raiwai. This is one of the go-to places for those as it closes later than usual shops. This place houses one of the best bars in Fiji which are Bad Dog Cafe and Dogfather. It also has a Cinema, a Food Court, and varieties of shops to choose from.
