Do I Like My Job?! Railroad Conductor

I'm answering two of my most asked railroad conductor questions. Also, had some freak sewer hose accident but thankfully it wasn't messy. Got to love working for the railroad (BNSF) and being a full timer in an rv. It's definitely interesting at times, but we wouldn't trade it for the world. Thanks for stopping by and we hope you enjoy this video!

How much do conductors make & training pay | Railroad Life

How much money do we actually make? This is by far the most asked question ever. The answer varies because the jobs vary. The pay during training is far different than when you mark up and join the rest of the crews. I cover this topic and a bit more. To answer one big one: yes, you can make six figures with some companies as a railroad conductor.

Moving the economy is “just another day” at Norfolk Southern

Even an ordinary day at Norfolk Southern has an extraordinary impact on the American economy.

That’s the theme of Norfolk Southern's latest television commercial, “Just Another Day,” which begins airing today on cable networks. “It’s a message that Norfolk Southern people are out there around the clock, quietly and reliably taking care of business,” said Frank Brown NS avp corporate communications. “With all the issues pressing for attention, it’s good to know there’s a transportation company that’s doing what it’s supposed to do and that can be counted on to keep doing it -- with no muss, no fuss.”

The commercial was filmed in Atlanta’s Inman Yard under supervision of Troy Conway, training coordinator, transportation, who appears in the spot (albeit briefly) along with Katrena Brown, an NS locomotive engineer. Rhonda Broom, manager advertising and promotions, and Stacey Hugo, manager community outreach, both of Norfolk, organized the production from NS’ corporate communications department.

The speaking parts are actors Bo Micadelic and Mac Wells. RP3 Agency of Bethesda, Md., produced the spot, and the director was Ray Dillman of the Wondros production company in Los Angeles. Dillman is an Emmy winner who has created commercials for AllState, the U.S. Army, American Airlines, PGA, Coca-Cola, Bank of America, and Home Depot.

A Little about The NS Lawmen
Founded by a group of railroad policemen who enjoyed pickin' and singin', the Norfolk Southern Lawmen today are among the nation's top corporate entertainers.

Employed by Norfolk Southern, they are full-time professional musicians who log some 200 performances a year. They have appeared on national television, at the Grand Ole Opry, the Smithsonian Institution and at the Jimmie Rodgers Memorial Foundation in Meridian, Mississippi along with some of country's top stars including Willie Nelson, Tanya Tucker, Ricky Skaggs, Collin Raye, Billy Joe Royal and T. Graham Brown.

I will be using their songs for all my Railroad Videos, why NOT?

I've Been Working on The NS Railroad...

The Station Inn...A Better Way to Railfan in 720p HD...A Very In-Depth Look at...I've Been Working On The NS Railroad!!
While visiting The Station Inn in Cresson, PA., I witnessed a parade of NS ROW track workers heading West--lots of waves and some good Toot Toots. A bit later I heard on the scanner they were at milepost 255...sounds like The Cassandra Footbridge location. I was right, and for the next few hours captured a great NS Crew replacing a continuous rail on Track 2--with a birds eye view from the bridge. Lots of traffic on Track 1 & 3 at the same time---Safety First!
The ROW Supervisor on duty told every passing engineer, Make Lots of Noise--and they did. Also of note, This Supervisor was on his very last day with NS---after 37 years! with The PRR & Conrail & Norfolk Southern. Congratulations & Enjoy Retirement !!!!!
Feel free to leave a comment for him & his great crew......Doug

A Day in the Life.... Pichi Richi Railway Train Conductor

George Wheeler has been volunteering for the Pichi Richi Railway since 1994. Having helped in many other areas of the railway. His main job when trains are running is train conductor. This entails looking after the passengers on the train. See that they told the rules of what they can't do while on the train, but also answering any of their questions about the railway. Keeping an eye on all the car captains, so they know their job & what they should be doing & telling passengers about the railway, as they travel on the Pichi Richi Explorer train. A train trip back into history, the way our grandparents travelled. A way of re-living train travel or experience what it was like to travel by train, but also a steam train.
