Hi folks, NatNomad here. An ex-Buddhist monk from Laos with a big dream of seeing the world. Throughout my time for over 10 years being a monk I kept asking myself one question What life is like out there beyond the monastery? and because of this question alone made me take a big step in 2014 when I finally said goodbye to my wonderful monastic life.

LUANG PRABANG IS SUCH AN UNDERRATED CITY (and so budget friendly!)
I can't believe more people aren't talking about how incredible Luang Prabang is! This is absolutely one of my favorite small cities in all of South East Asia and is by far one of the most inexpensive places that I've been to. From it's beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Old Town, to its dozens of gorgeous Buddhist Temples, to the stunning nature surrounding it, Luang Prabang should definitely be on your travel bucket list. Laos on a whole is not at all as touristy as neighboring Vietnam and Thailand and definitely has a lot to offer. Let me know in the comments if you have here before and what your experience was!

Once the ancient capital of Laos, Luang Prabang retains some of the charm of a long gone kingdom that ruled the mountainous region along the Mekong river. Today it is the cultural and spiritual capital of Laos, with a high concentration of Buddhist temples and streets full of saffron clad monks. A century of French influence gives the old town a colonial charm, with colorful window shutters and flower lined streets buzzing with scooters.
