The Cost of Living: A Good Reason for Living in El Salvador
El Salvador boasts a relatively low cost of living compared to many other countries, allowing retirees to stretch their savings further. For instance, cities like Santa Ana (and other places that we mention at the end of this article) offer affordable housing options, such as condominiums or apartments, at reasonable prices.

This affordability extends to everyday expenses, including groceries, dining out, transportation, and entertainment, making it easier to maintain a comfortable lifestyle without straining finances.

Safety. Living in El Salvador now is safe (when compared to other Latin American countries)
While this may sound odd when we consider the nation’s history (a civil war ended not long ago) and the very violent past, it’s worth noting that El Salvador has made significant strides in terms of security in recent years.

The murder rate in El Salvador dropped by more than 80% in a matter of years, and currently, it is safer than most countries in Latin America. The drastic improvement almost put El Salvador among the 10 best countries to live in Latin America (it got a 11th place).

EL SALVADOR is NOT What You Think. ???? ????????

El Salvador is NOT What you think it is. Most glaringly, they have a Democratically Elected Dictator who is implementing a ton of change... luckily it seems to be good change, though not without controversy. So the question is, should you travel to El Salvador with all this going on? (Was I crazy to go solo??)

El Salvador is a beautiful yet small country in Central America. I spent most of my time in San Salvador, the capital city. The Food is amazing, especially Pupusas which are the Salvadoran speciality, but they also have incredible Food in sit-down restaurants-- some of my favorite I've ever eaten.

You'll also experience the Rainbow Slide at the Picnic Steak House, a really beautiful church in the historic center of town called Iglesia El Rosario, and incredible views at Santa Anna Volcano, El Tunco Beach, La Puerta Del Diablo, and Boqueron National Park... When they're open and available to the public!

My hope with this video is that you can decide if visiting El Salvador, and specifically the capital of San Salvador, is right for you. There is a ton going on in El Salvador, and not everyone will want to travel to a country that is in development, but if you do travel to San Salvador, El Salvador... I have a feeling that you might like it.

9 Countries to Retire on a Small Pension, Social Security, or With Very Little Money

Are you wondering where you can retire on a small pension or social security? Here are 9 countries that have retirement visas for people without a lot of money. Some retirement options abroad include true retirement visas aimed at folks who are of advanced age. Other places let you retire on a resident visa with proof that you have money coming in every month. Of course, there are plenty of countries that want a lot of money from you, but not in this list. We're looking at places that top out at about $1,600 per month and go down to just a couple hundred dollars per month. We'll cover Mexico's Temporary Resident Visa, Ecuador's Retirement and Investor Visas, the Philippines' SRRV Visa, Costa Rica's Pensionado Program, Panama's Pension Program, Nicaragua's Pension Program, Thailand's Retirement Visa, Mauritius' Retirement Program, and we'll cover a range of locations and cultures that might work as a good place to settle down once you cash in your pension. Likely, you're looking to leave the USA, Canada, or some other nation that overtaxes and is overpriced. Thankfully, moving abroad in retirement is actually quite easy. Let's look at some of the cheapest countries on Earth for retirement options.

8 Reasons Why Americans LEAVE Costa Rica [Why I Left]

The TRUTH about living in Costa Rica: Why do so many Americans leave Costa Rica after moving there? In this video, I explain what causes expats to change their minds about retiring abroad and why I left Costa Rica after 8 years. Some of the initial reasons that people want to move to Costa Rica include the moderate climate, laid back lifestyle, fresh and healthy food, friendly people, beaches, medical tourism, and the low cost of living. But is Costa Rica really a safe and friendly country or is it actually dangerous and expensive? Once they arrive, many people realize that living in Costa Rica wasn't quite what they expected. Unfortunately, that results in people returning home quite soon after arriving.

After helping more than 500 foreigners move to Costa Rica and living there for eight years, this video explains the top reasons why people move back to the USA and why I left, too, so that you know more about what to expect BEFORE you get there. This is the real and sometimes dark truth about living in Costa Rica. What do you think are the biggest pros and cons of living in Costa Rica? Let us know in the comments.

Our Surprising Trip To El Salvador (former most dangerous country)

In today's episode, we pay a visit to the world's former most dangerous country: El Salvador in the heart of Central America.

El Zonte in particular has such a cool history.

El Zonte is known to be an awesome surf spot which attracts tourists from all over the world. A couple of years ago after visiting El Zonte, an anonymous someone decided to make a 100K donation to the town. There was one condition: the donation would be paid in BTC and had to be distributed directly to the residents of El Zonte. The goal was to kickstart a local bitcoin economy and El Zonte, El Salvador became known as Bitcoin Beach.

Forward to 2021, President Bukele of El Salvador was inspired by what was happening in Bitcoin Beach. In June, he declared that El Salvador would be the first country in the world to make Bitcoin legal tender. And in September 2021, Bitcoin became an official currency in El Salvador… right alongside the U.S. dollar.

I was reading about all of the bitcoin excitement in El Salvador and knew I had to go check it out. I wanted to be a part of history in real time. I booked a flight and planned my stay in El Zonte.

WHAT I DIDN'T EXPECT
- Though many businesses in El Zonte did accept Bitcoin, many places only wanted cash or card. I kept a tally while I was there and only 5 of the 11 business I went to in El Zonte, accepted my bitcoin.
- Another thing that threw me off is the prevalence of the lightning network In El Salvador. Which makes sense, businesses need to be able to confirm transactions on the spot. Load up a lightning wallet (Strike/Blue Wallet) with roughly the amount of bitcoin you plan to spend.

THE HIGHLIGHTS
--- Beach Town ---
El Zonte beach is absolutely stunning, it is nestled between rugged rock formations along the Pacific Coast.

It's around sunset that El Zonte becomes magical. As the sun is setting, rays of light illuminate the rock formations that are down the coastline. And if you walk north up the beach, it's like walking into a fairy tale.

When you're in El Zonte, make it happen. Start walking on beach towards the sunset and will know when you arrived. Then repeat every day are you're there.

--- Accommodations ---
We were adamant to stay in a place that accepts crypto. Luckily our number one choice, Palo Verde Sustainable Hotel, accepts bitcoin and had availability.

What a treat to stay here. It's an intimate hotel with only 10 rooms and 2 apartments. Each of the rooms have their own private lounge along the infinity pool which overlooks the ocean. We could hear the waves from our room.

The best part was the staff. The friendlies and most helpful people we met in El Zonte were team members at Palo Verde.

Our stay was worth every satoshi.

--- Food ---
When you're ready for dinner, there is one restaurant in particular that you have to check out.

The place that made me feel like I was truly getting the El Salvadorian experience was Papusaria Jeisy. DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED BY THIS PLACE. Pupusas are traditional El Salvadorian corn or rice tortillas stuffed various combinations of fillings and topped with tomato salsa and vineagar cabbage slaw. Pick um up with your hands, eat um, love um. They are incredible.

And YES, Pupusaria Jeisy accepts bitcoin!

FINAL THOUGHTS
- The biggest takeaway from my trip is that there is disconnect between the bitcoin bullishness of leadership in El Salvador and what's on the ground. Many people I talked with are either unsure about bitcoin and how to use it or are flat out against it.
- Local businesses that are accepting bitcoin and El Salvadorians who are bitcoin believers, are radiating hope and growth.
- El Salvador is safe.

We traveled across the country to the east of El Salvador to see what there is. This felt like an area where not that many tourists make it, so a little bit more off the beaten path than El Tunco and San Salvador.
