The Most Beautiful ENGLISH villages in the COTSWOLDS - Part 1

Some of the most beautiful English villages can be found in the Cotswolds. This guide shows you Englands prettiest villages and historical properties from this beautiful part of England.

Our 2 part guide, starts in Castle Combe, voted the prettiest village in England a number of times. Hardly changed since the 16 hundreds, this sleepy village is also famous for being the backdrop in a number of films, including Steven Spielberg's War Horse and the 1967 classic Dr Dolittle.

Walking down by the river By Brook, the weaver's cottages are the highlight. Home to the local weavers back in the 15th century, they were highly skilled craftsmen men and women and held high status in the village.
Castle Combe

Bibury is not to be missed on any trip to the Cotswolds. Possibly the most beautiful chocolate box village in the Cotswolds and noted as such by William Morris when he visited. The Arlington Row is the highlight of the visit and again seen in movies like Stardust and Bridget Jones Diary. It can get very busy here so suggest you come early morning or late afternoon when the tour buses have passed.

Bibury

Burford has a sweeping long high street with delightful shops, antiques and tearooms. The 15th-century parish church of St. John Baptist is a magnificently preserved example and should not be missed whilst in the town.

48 Hours In The Cotswolds, England || ft Bibury, Upper Slaughter, Stow-On-The-Wold and Cirencester

This is such a gorgeous part of England! It's like taking a step back into 'ye olde England' and is such an (understated) visual delight. There are so many villages that make up The Cotswolds, each with its own distinct character and each worth a visit. It also makes for a brilliant escape from busy London so with that, we packed our bags and headed over to the Cotswolds for a couple of days. Here's what we got up to!

Cotswolds, England: Village Charm - Rick Steves’ Europe Travel Guide - Travel Bite

More info about travel to the Cotswolds: As with many fairy-tale regions in Europe, the present-day beauty of England's Cotswolds was the result of an economic disaster — in this case, the collapse of the wool industry. The fine Cotswold towns fell into a time warp, creating a rustic charm that is the basis of today's new prosperity from tourism.

COTSWOLDS *Late Evening* Christmas Walk - English Village, Castle Combe

Christmas in the Cotswolds. Bringing some festive feels to make Christmas more joyous. Enjoy this walk, just before dark in Castle Combe, England.

In the mid-12th century the Normans built a castle here on the site of a Roman Villa abandoned in the 5th century. The village is built around the 14th century and got its name from the castle. St. Andrew's Church is probably from the 12th century and of particular interest inside is the modified 15th-century faceless clock

Castle Combe has been called 'The Prettiest Village in England'This English village features beautiful architecture and plenty of festive decorations to make your holiday season extra special. Plus, you can take in some beautiful views of the Cotswolds.

THE COTSWOLDS, ENGLAND ???????? Bourton-on-the-Water, Bibury + Minster Lovell Hall

We hope you enjoyed this video and found it useful for your own Cotswolds trip planning.
SUBSCRIBE! We put out New Videos Every Saturday!

Mentioned in the video:
The pet sitting website we use (get a discount on your membership with our link):

If you can't drive yourself, here are some Cotswolds tours you can check out:

In this video, we drive from Oxford to the Cotswolds to visit Bourton-on-the-Water, Bibury, and Minster Lovell Hall.

When we told our friends that we were pet sitting outside of Oxford, they said we had to visit the Cotswolds. So we said, “That sounds great! And what, pray tell, is a Cotswolds?” Our pet sitting hosts (the people, not the pets) graciously let us use their car while they were away, and since Jen doesn’t know how to drive a stick, Stevo got to do all of the driving! On the wrong side of the road! On the wrong side of the car! I hope we survive!

We started our tour of the Cotswolds at Minster Lovell Hall, a 14th-century ruin of a massive estate. It was as idyllic as can be with tall green trees, quiet nature trails, there was even a babbling brook! We toured the ruins and read the signage to learn more about the history of Minster Lovell Hall before getting back on the country roads.

Our second stop, Bourton-on-the-Water, lives up to its name. A shallow stream runs through the center of the village, inviting children, dogs, and Jens to splash around in the ice-cold ankle-deep water. The village is a perfect spot to visit on a balmy summer day and it looked like everyone else had the same idea. The canal was packed with summer revelers enjoying the beautiful weather. We had a lovely lunch of typical British fare and, necessary on a hot day, ice cream.

The third and final stop of our Cotswolds tour was Bibury, said to be one of the most beautiful villages in England. I don’t know who said that, but I have to agree with them! Low-slung village homes, a slow creek and nature reserve on your front doorstep, plus a nonstop flow of tourists taking pictures of the beauty.

We had a lovely time driving around the Cotswolds. England certainly does have some lovely villages. And we survived driving on the wrong side of the road!

Thank you for watching! :)

Winchcombe Wonderland - Snow in the Cotswolds, December 2022

Winchcombe is a lovely place to be at any time of year but on a snowy day just before Christmas, that's special!
It's not the weather for e-bikes or drones so join me on a circuitous walk around the town and down towards Sudeley Castle on a snowy Sunday in December 2022, in search of snowmen. Let me know in the comments if you spot any I missed!
