Welcome to Cyprus!

On this road trip across the south coast of Cyprus, I’m exploring Cyprus’ most amazing destinations. I’ve done the research, and chosen these must-do activities that will help you plan the perfect trip. Right! It’s time to share with you 9 of the most fantastic things to do on this beautiful island.

The awesome power of nature is everywhere in Cyprus, and my first fantastic thing to do illustrates that perfectly - Avakas Gorge. Be sure to bring some comfortable shoes - there’s a short but lovely hike on the way to the gorge.

Okay, so this is the Avakas Gorge trail that we're going to follow. It's very hot, it’s very dry, we’ve dosed up on sun cream, got tonnes of water in the bag and got about a 2-3km trek to go and find the Gorge. So yeah, let’s get walking!

Like I said, it’s a popular tourist destination, so you can expect to see some tour groups on your walk. The tourist presence doesn’t ruin the appeal. A lot has been done to protect the area. It’s prohibited to pick any plants here, and animals roam freely. You’re completely surrounded by natural beauty.

The walk to the gorge sort of serves a double purpose. The blue sky, the lush green foliage - it sets you up for the shock of finally turning that corner and seeing the walls of the gorge.

The gorge is 3km long, and the walls reach up to 30 metres high. These sheer rock walls are so tall that you’re completely protected from the sun, and the cool breeze blowing through the gorge is so nice after a warm and sticky hike.

The river is low and calm under foot - but during the winter month, the river levels rise and the small stream becomes a torrent. This sense of danger isn’t just under foot- it’s also overhead.

So there's a rock here which is wedged between the cliff faces and it looks pretty ominous! Looks like it’s about to drop.

Beware that some of the mountain roads to get here can be quite tight and get busier as the day goes on. Something to note if you’re a nervous driver.

So here’s a bonus tip for you - right next to wonderful thing to do number 3 is a fantastic restaurant called Oniro By The Sea.

Fantastic food, refreshing cocktails, sea views - Oniro has everything, and I can’t recommend enough that you make it a stop on your trip and it’s just a stone’s throw away from our next destination. In fact, you can probably see it from your table.

It’s just a 5 minute walk from the restaurant at most - the shipwreck of the Edro III.

So that the Shipwreck behind me is quite a sight and it’s been here for just under 10 years now. So apparently back in 2011 it embarked for Rhodes, one of the Greek Islands.

But never made it, because it hit a freak storm and ended up being caught up on the rocks here just off the coastline.

So apparently people fled there, they made it safe, they took out the fuel as soon as they could, so that the oceans weren’t polluted and now? It makes for a rather nice photo opportunity as you can see down there.

I couldn’t help myself - I had to get closer to the ship. The rocks are very rough in places, but I’m so glad I did - getting just that little bit closer to the shipwreck was so awe-inspiring.

The clear water and crashing waves were hypnotising. But if you want even more bang for your buck, just 200 metres from the wreck are sea caves carved into the cliffs.

A great opportunity to walk down the lunch, take some gorgeous holiday pictures, and get one last look at the shipwreck before heading to your next destination.

Coral Bay Beach is widely regarded as one of the best beaches on the island. That’s right, it only took me three Things To Do until I wanted to hit the beach, and it’s the most visited beach on Cyprus’ West Coast.

It’s easy to see why - it’s got fine, white sand, calm, clear water - everything you’d want for a day in the sun. If you’re put off by seeing so many people here, don’t worry. I found an easy solution.

So yes, Coral Beach is a fairly obvious beach to come to, you’ve got your parasols your water sports, your deckchairs.

10 Reasons Why You Need to Visit Cyprus

Get more Tips here!

Divide your time between the island’s rich cultural history and beaches so beautiful you’d be hard-pressed to find their equal anywhere else. There are dozens of reasons to spend some time bumming around Cyprus; here are some of the most compelling.

1. It’s Bright and Sunny All Year Long
The island of Cyprus averages about 326 days of sunshine a year. That means that even in the dead of winter, you’ll be greeted by bright sunshine pretty much every day.

2. Beaches of All Kinds
Cyprus is home to a variety of different beaches. Rocky inlets and white sand beaches are scattered across the island. Even better, no matter where you drop your beach towel, you’ll have the opportunity to wade into the cleanest water in all of Europe.

3. But It’s Not All Beaches
Cyprus is also home to Mediterranean forests that house some plants that can’t be found anywhere else, the Cyprus cedar and the Cyprus oak among them. More than 125 local plants can be found in the island’s lush forests.

4. Hit the Town and Have a Blast
Each one of the island’s six, large cities has its own nightlife and each one is worth checking out. Will you hit the clubs in Limassol or push it to the limit in Ayia Napa. Every flavor of nightlife in Cyprus is a ton of fun; all you need to do is find the one that’s right for you.

5. The Food Is Amazing
Halloumi cheese is a delicacy. Cyprus also does its own version of souvlaki (which is tasty grilled meat and vegetables). For a snack, stop and grab a Koubes — it’s basically a hush puppy stuffed with minced meat and spices. There’s really no end to the rich, delicious offerings on the tiny island.

6. The Booze Is Incredible, Too
The national drink is known as a Brandy Sour. The cocktail is a heady mix of Cypriot brandy, lemon squash, some Angostura bitters, and a splash of soda water. If you fancy wine, Cyprus is home to the world’s oldest wine, Commandaria.

7. You Can See the Whole Island in One Trip
It’s possible to set up camp pretty much anywhere on the island and then take short day trips to see whatever tourist spots you’d like to see. Nowhere on the island is more than 3 hours away from anywhere else, so you’re always near wherever you want to be.

8. Cyprus Is Very Safe
Cyprus is considered extremely friendly. Sure, in the urban areas you have to be on the lookout for a small amount of expected crime (pickpocketing, that sort of thing), but Cyprus is still considered one of the safest destinations in all of Europe.

9. ‘Quaint’ Doesn’t Begin to Cover the Architecture
The towns and cities that dot the island of Cyprus are a thrill to simply walk through. If you do manage to find yourself winging your way toward Cyprus, make sure to spend some time simply walking around. You won’t regret it.

10. Birthplace of the Goddess of Love
Any fans of Greek history might recognize Cyprus as the reputed birthplace of Aphrodite. During the goddess’ hey day, her chief temple was located in Paphos, the town near which she supposedly sprung from the foam of the sea.

Which reason like you the most?

5 Reasons NOT to Come to Cyprus!

Those are my 5 biggest reasons why you should NOT come to Cyprus. Yes, there are some interesting points, so make sure to watch this video until the end!

I love Cyprus, but with everything, there are of course some negative sides as well. So I thought I will make a video about things that I DON'T like, and things that you maybe won't like as well.

This does not mean, Cyprus in general is bad, this just means I want to be transparent and tell what annoys me sometimes. And as I live here for more than 3 years, I think I've got enough experience to be able to say that there are some little downsides of Cyprus.

If you are coming to Cyprus for holidays, or if you are planning to move here, this video is perfect for you! Listen closely and let me know in the comments if you think those are valid drawbacks, or not.

And yes, those may be some disadvantages, or negative sides of Cyprus, BUT Cyprus has a lot of good sides as well. So before you judge, make a deeper research and then come to your own conclusion.

On my channel you will find other interesting and positive videos about Cyprus, so I'd be happy to see you in another video as well! :-)

Why Turkey is Holding this Island Hostage | Cyprus, Uncharted, Ep. 4

Why Turkey invented this nation

I went to a country that ‘doesn’t exist’ at least on the map. But it’s a place that sure feels like a real country. Being here is a reminder that international relations can often ignore the realities on the ground, and the people who live in these places. For me it’s important to not just look at these places on a map but to go and see them. Feel them. Talk to the people who live there. That’s what this fourth and final episode from Cyprus is about. I hope you enjoy.

What We ACTUALLY Thought About Cyprus (same as Greece?)

In today's episode, we bring you along on the second half of our Cyprus trip where we explore some beautiful nature spots on both the west and east ends of the island???????? We also eat some delicious Cypriot food????

While South Cyprus feels similar to Greece in many ways, there is such a huge mix of other cultural and culinary influences here that it's a very different experience. The food is like a mix between the Middle East and Greece, and even the nature is different in many ways (but the water is just as beautiful and blue!).

We are Oskar & Dan, two boys from Sweden who decided to change the course of our lives, drop out of university, and live life full-time. We're trying to see and learn as much about the world as possible while we're young. Right now, we are working to visit 100 countries before the end of 2022????
