9 Places You've Never Heard Of In BARCELONA

When we visited the city of Barcelona for our Holiday Extras travel guides, we asked the world of Facebook and Twitter for some unique local insights that we wouldn’t find in the average guidebook.

We received a *wealth* of recommendations and sifted through them to find the best restaurants, bars, shopping areas and attractions to visit, all away from the gaggle of tourists. Here presenting *drum roll*… Take Me To…Barcelona! A guide that gives you an inside look at Barcelona from the perspective of those who live there :)

We didn’t just ask the locals on social media though, we actually met a couple of them face-to-face! Here’s David:
We met him at the Laberint’ d’Horta, a secluded mythology-themed labyrinth on the outskirts of the city.
And Victor, who we met at the famous La Boqueria Market that’s located along Las Ramblas:

See more on our Holiday Extras blog post here:

If you want to mix it up with some of the more popular things to do in Barcelona though, we have a video with the city’s Top 10 here:

🔷Casal Mas Guinardó🔷

Mas Guinardó is a Barcelona farmhouse that gives its name to the Guinardó district of Barcelona. It is a place with a lot of history, even with legends, such as those that refer to bandits and Rocaguinarda. During the 17th and 18th centuries, it served as a watchtower to lead the sieges of Barcelona. In 1652 the surrender of the city took place in this farmhouse. In 1894 Salvador Riera i Giralt bought Mas Guinardó and in 1896 he did the same with Mas Viladomat, at the end of Rambla Volart, which has now disappeared. In 1897 the urbanization of this whole territory was approved. In 1906 it was transformed into the headquarters of the Guinardó Owners and Neighbors Association, which has played a social role until now. It is currently the Mas Guinardó Entity Center.

It is in a privileged place of the Guinardó at the top of the formerly named Puig Cogoll (where there was a dovecote), with a panoramic view of the plain of Barcelona. It is said that this farmhouse gave its name to the whole neighborhood, as its northeastern slope was the former Torrent de la Guineu, which in medieval Catalan was called Guinarda, and probably derived from Guinardó.

This is a great place to visit when you search for something more private and secluded than a normal park and also want to be closer to nature and water fountains.

It is located in Horta-Guinardo region on the slope of the hill from Colserolla ridge. You can easily get to this park by taking the green line №3 in direction of Trinitat Nova, the name of the stop is Mundet. Alternatively, you can take some bus lines: 27, 60, 76, B19, H4, V21. The bus lines with letter H are considered to be faster than the rest lines.

The entrance to the park will cost you 2,23€ for the general ticket, but you may benefit from different discounts which you can research in advance. On Wednesdays and Sundays the entrance is free. Normally the park is closed after dark, the opening hours differ according to the time of the year. From 1 November to 31 March it's open from 10:00h to 19:00h. And from 1 April to 31 October the opening hours are 10:00h to 20:00h. Check the holiday schedule as it may affect the opening hours or the park could be closed.
It's not allowed to enter with the pets or any vehicles including bikes, skates etc. and even balls.

We had lived in Barcelona for 3 years and decided to share the best parks that we discovered and enjoyed the most.

We hope that you found this video useful and interesting to watch.

Districts of Barcelona

The City of Barcelona is divided into 10 administrative districts each with its own Ajuntament. The city centre districts of Ciutat Vella and L'Eixample along with Sants-Montjuïc, Gràcia and the beaches of Sant Martí are the most likely desinations for tourists. But if you live here, Les Corts, Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, Horta-Guinardó. Nou Barris and Sant Andreu are not only wildly different but also have a lot going for them.

This trail in Barcelona had the best views 😳

Let’s visit parque del guinardó, this huge park in the top of Barcelona Spain has food vendors, great trails & of course the views! It has over 10k reviews on google over 4.5 stars. ⭐️

If you’re in Barcelona, I would definitely go here. It’s also a crazy drive to get up to the beginning of the park, where you’ll start walking to get to the heart of it. A short, mild & easy walk for all.

TOP places to visit in Barcelona / Spain (2021)

Hey fam,
Here are some of the top places that you and your loved ones should consider visiting if you happen to be in Barcelona, Spain.

Below is the break down:

SAGRADA FAMILIA:
-Get your tickets online and prices vary depending on seasons.
- Get there at least 15 minutes before your entrance time
- Currently, they have restricted all visitors to go up-towers as part of the Covid-19 measures.

PARK GUELL:
- The entrance fees vary from private guided tours, groups, children/older people, or just a general ticket. In our case, we went for the general ticket which was about 10€ per person.
-The amounts tend to fluctuate depending on seasons
-The tickets expire 30 minutes after your official check-in time.

CABLE CARS
-Just like any other public transport, it depends on whether you want a single ticket or a return ticket.
-Single ticket was at 7€ and the return ticket was around 14€
-Has three stations and each station has its attraction site/Gardens/Museum.
-For a better experience, get the return ticket and alight at any station you want and enjoy the views/gardens or the museum.
-You can go at any time between 11 am to 7 pm (Closing time depends on seasons)
-Your ticket is only valid just for the day you purchase them. Make sure you purchase them on the very day you're ready to experience the teleferic Cars, otherwise you cannot use it for any other day.
-Ticket Price may vary depending on seasons

MONTJUIC PARK/MAGIC FOUNTAIN:
-Both are 100% free.
-Starts from Pl Espana.
-Check online for the schedule and days when the magic fountain 'performs'. It also depends on the seasons. (Summer/Fall/Winter)
-Due to covid-19, the music and the colorful magic fountain has been postponed until further notice. The video of the magic fountain you've seen here was recorded late last year.

🔷Parc Güell🔷

Park Güell (Parc Güell in Catalan and Park Güell in its original name) is a public park with gardens and architectural elements located in the upper part of the city of Barcelona (Spain), in the foothills of the Collserola mountain range. The park is located on the southern slope of Mount Carmelo (La Salud neighborhood, in the Gracia district) and adjacent to the north slope where Carmelo Park is located (El Carmelo neighborhood, Horta-Guinardó district). Conceived as an urbanization, the park was designed by the architect Antoni Gaudí, the greatest exponent of Catalan modernism, commissioned by the businessman Eusebi Güell. Built between 1900 and 1914, it was inaugurated as a public park in 1926.

Park Güell is a reflection of Gaudí's artistic fullness: it belongs to his naturalistic stage (first decade of the 20th century), a period in which the architect perfected his personal style, through inspiration in the organic forms of nature, to which put into practice a whole series of new structural solutions originated in his in-depth analysis of ruled geometry. To this the Catalan artist adds great creative freedom and an imaginative ornamental creation: starting from a certain baroque style, his works acquire great structural richness, of forms and volumes devoid of rationalist rigidity or any classical premise. In Park Güell Gaudí displayed all his architectural genius and put into practice many of his innovative structural solutions that would be emblematic of his organicist style, culminating in the Sagrada Familia.

The park was conceived by Güell and Gaudí as a structured complex where, within an incomparable setting of natural beauty, high-standing homes would be located, with all the technological advances of the time to provide maximum comfort and with high-quality finishes. artistic quality. Likewise, they devised a set impregnated with a strong symbolism, since they tried to synthesize in the common elements of the park many of the ideals, both political and religious, shared by patron and architect: thus, concepts from political Catalanism are perceptible in the set - especially on the access staircase, where the Catalan countries are represented - and of the Catholic religion - in the monument to Calvary, originally designed as a chapel. The mythological element is also important: apparently, Güell and Gaudí were inspired by the temple of Apollo at Delphi for their conception of the park.

On the other hand, numerous experts have wanted to see in the park a series of references of varied sign, due to the complex iconography applied by Gaudí to the whole urban project, references that range from political claim to religious exaltation, passing through mythology , history or philosophy. In particular, many scholars pretend to see references to Freemasonry, a fact unlikely due to the deep religious beliefs of both Gaudí and Count Güell and, in any case, not proven by any objective evidence in the entire historiography of the modernist architect. The multiplicity of symbols developed in Park Güell is, as has been said, political and religious, in any case with a certain mystery character due to the taste of the time for enigmas and riddles.

The park is listed as a monument declared in the register of Cultural Assets of National Interest of the Catalan heritage and in the register of Assets of Cultural Interest of the Spanish heritage with the code RI-51-0003818. It is also part of the World Heritage Site declared by UNESCO as Works of Antoni Gaudí with the code 320-001, where it was inscribed in 1984 together with the Güell Palace and the Casa Milà.
