Tiny Tour | Zumaia Spain | A coastal town on the edge of the cliffs 2019 Autumn
Here we are in Zumaia(Zumaya), a very nice coastal town in province Gipuzkoa(Guipúzcoa), which is one of 3 provinces in País Vasco(Basque Country), officially the Basque Autonomous Community in Spain. Zumaia is in the northern part of the province, facing the Cantabrian Sea, sitting on the cliffs which is formed by flysch, a sequence of sedimentary rock layers. Anyway, the town is very lovely and the view from the cliffs is astonishing. We hope you like it.

Best Places in Basque Country
The Basque Country has the euphonious nickname Green Spain. Holidaymakers can look forward to plenty of unspoiled nature, fascinating folklore, beautiful coastal towns and an exciting cultural history. The expansion of the Basque Country is politically and socially controversial and is caught between Basque, Spanish and French nationalism. The three provinces of Guipuzcoa, Biscay and Alava are a true vacation paradise for anyone who doesn't want to choose between a city break, an active vacation or lazing on the beach. The Basque Country is still considered an insider tip, but the number of holidaymakers who take the region to their hearts and travel here year after year is steadily increasing. Perhaps you too will fall in love with one of the many small fishing villages or give yourself over to your thoughts on a section of the Way of St. James with its important pilgrimage site of Balmaseda in the province of Bizkaia. #basquecountry #spain #bestplaces

9. Costa Brava
North of Barcelona, and close to the border with France, is the coastal region known as the Costa Brava. Here, you can find a number of seaside resorts, quaint fishing villages and major coastal resorts. 8. Benidorm
On the stretch of coastline called Costa Blanca, you’ll find the busy resort of Benidorm. Corralejo Corralejo is a beach-town on the northern tip of Fuerteventura, the second largest of the Canary Islands. 6. Marbella
Marbella in the Costa el Sol was once a tiny fishing village with just a few hundred residents. Today, it is one of the best known beach destinations on the planet. The Old Town and Orange Square are full of historic architecture, but the real attraction is the warm weather, the gorgeous beaches and the nightlife.

On the southernmost tip of Spain, along the Costa de la Luz, is a small town known as Tarifa. The beaches are phenomenal in their own right, but what makes Tarifa particularly special is that you can see across the Strait of Gibraltar all the way to Africa from the coastline. If you’re interested in beach sports, then make your way to the beach called Los Lances.
3. Ibiza
The Balearic Island known for its nonstop nightlife is Ibiza. While the island undeniably comes alive at night, days at the beach are still an appealing option for many visitors. If you visit Ibiza, be sure to check out Cala Salada in the San Antonio region of Ibiza.

Gran Canaria is one of the most popular of the Canary Islands located off the coast of the Western Sahara in Africa. HONDARRIBIA, BASQUE COUNTRY CELEBRATING ALARDE
2018 Sep 08, Day#7 – Immediately after visiting Pasai, we drove up to Hondarribia, another beautiful small fishing village in Gipuzkoa, Basque Country, Spain. Today was the town’s annual celebration of Virgen de Guadalupe festivity with thunderous and colorful parade called Alarde (Arms Parade). Red color stood out in this joyous event. Unfortunately, we missed the morning parade and the next one would be held at 6pm, which we decided to skip due to time constraint. This video shows the town in resting period after the morning parade while the neighborhood continued to prepare for the next evening parade. Nonetheless, Hondarribia is worth a visit when in Basque, and walking the old town in its stone-paved streets and surrounding old wall is a must. The green/red houses are historic treasures giving the village that special charm. Nearby is the La Marina where one can walk the boardwalk and enjoy the fantastic views of the ocean, estuary, Txingudi bay and sight of nearby town of Hendaye. Here one can find many bars and restaurants to sample basque cuisine not to mention to-die-for pintxos. Its huge beach is pleasant for a swim or simply beach-walking. Absolutely, Hondarribia is an excellent tourist destination we can come back again in the future.

Zumaia ( Spanish: Zumaya) is a small town in the north part of Spain in the Basque region.
The town has two beaches (Itzurun and Santiago), which are of interest to geologists because they are situated among the longest set of continuous rock strata in the world. Known locally as the flysch they date from the mid-cretaceous period to the present, a time period of over 100 million years. This beach became even more famous when scenes of the final season Game of Thrones were filmed here. Great sand beaches worth visiting while in Spain.
Zumaia is a little town in the Basque Country, established in the Northern part of Spain – about an hour away from Bilbao. The area has a couple of stunning beaches, well-known among tourists from all over the world – Itzurun, and Santiago.
Itzurun beach offers a dramatic geological spectacle – more than 150 meters of vertical rocks and limestone cliffs, created by the continuous erosion of the sea. The phenomenon is called flysch – a progression of sedimentary rocks that advance from the water depths to the shallow waters and the beach.
Can you feel the enchantment yet? Because that’s just the beginning.
More about the beach Itzurun beach covers around 300 meters of length, with golden sands and a massive wave flow. It is acknowledged for its inspiring scenery – hazy and bizarre rock strata beaten by the tides and extending into the sea. The beach is located close to the urban area of Zumaia, and it is one of the most preferred sightseeing places for both the locals and the tourists.
Things to do around Itzurun beach offers a wide range of activities apart from sightseeing, photography, and sunbathing. Many visitors choose to engage in some of the following:
Surfing and windsurfing; Boating and canoeing; Bodyboarding and jet skiing; Recreational, sport, and underground fishing; Scuba diving, and more.
The beach has a professional lifeguard service from 10:30 AM to 7:30 PM. However, visitors are asked to stay alert because of the rocky sea bottom and the occasional powerful waves. You can find a beach bar with food grabs, a seawater therapy center, and dozens of mesmerizing viewpoints within just a few meters distance of the beach itself.
Game of Thrones film set Yes, you got that one right – the place has a lot to do with HBO’s mega-production. The pearl of Zumaia repeatedly appears in season seven of the show as the landing beach of Dragonstone. This is where Daenerys Targaryen returns to Westeros for the first time after passing the Narrow Sea with her men. This is where Theon Greyjoy and Jon Snow meet again after a long separation. This is where Theon battles his crew and pushes them to rescue Yara. Of course, this is where millions of fans had visited ever since to feel the vibe and recreate the thrill of the fantasy epics.

Rain and wind, the most feared elements by a photographer. They are also the forces that shape and build most of the cliffs, rocks and beaches of the coast. Here, they’ve been working on it for eons. Millions of years in the making, Zumaia shows the passing of time and tells a story, the biggest of all. Speaking of stories, Game of Thrones used a very near location as the spot for Dragonstone. I can see why they chose this place.
I only had a day there, but what was supposed to be a little appetizer for the rest of my fall trip, quickly became a major destination. I can’t wait to go back.
This short movie is the story of my day there, and the images I was able to make. I hope you enjoy it.

Must See Parts of Spain: Basque Country & Dragonstone | 4K
Must see stops in the Basque Country and Spain! We explored San Sebastian, hiked the San Juan de Gaztelugatxe (Dragonstone Castle location in Game of Thrones @ 3:05 in the video), enjoyed the views at Flysch in Zumaia, went for a hike up Ulia Mountain, ate endless Pintxos, and rented a car to travel along the coast to see the sights and the local towns. Google Maps of our Route (with other suggestions):

TOP TRAVEL TIPS: *If you want to see the coastline, a car is needed. I only rented a car for one day which was enough to see the towns and sights along the coast between San Sebastian and Bilbao. *A car is not recommended for getting around Spain or even travelling in and out of San Sebastian. The train station is in the downtown and is very easy to get to. *We did got to Bilbao and wish we had skipped it. The smaller towns have way more to offer for a tourists. *San Sebastian is a small city with so much to do. Three nights there is a must! *The hike on Ulia Mountain leads to another town- Pasaia. We were too lazy and ran out of town, but in the summer with more daylight this would be a scenic hike. *Flysch and San Juan de Gaztelugatxe are very close to each other and make for a great quick road trip. Very worth it, both are amazing sites!
The trip included: (0:00) Intro (San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, Ulia Mountain, Flysch, View of San Sebastian, Flysch, Ulia Mountain, San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, Sunset at San Sebastian from the Londres Hotel). (0:26) Hike along the coastline of Ulia Mountain- accessable from Zurriola Beach. Good hiking info here: (1:09) San Sebastian- view from our hotel and exploring the town (1:41) Eating foot at La Cuchara de San Telmo (1:59) Quick stop in Getaria (2:08) Exploring Flysch in Zumaia (3:03) Hiking to the top of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe- Used in season 7 of Game of Thrones as the location of Dragonstone (the castle on top is of course computer generated)

-Settings were 2.7K 60fps, Wide and Linear FOVs & 4K wifi FOV for timelapses

The Flysch Route
Our experience takes place in the Basque Coast Geopark, among imposing cliffs, allowing you to bear witness to the 60 million years of history on the earth. The Geopark and the Flysch Route span the towns of Mutriku, Deba and Zumaia. The Flysch is a geological formation consisting of a series of rock strata which through the continuous action of the sea have been left exposed and have allowed us to study the history of our planet.
Start this journey through time at the Nautilus Centre in Mutriku, which houses an exceptional collection of ammonite fossils collected on the cliffs. Then, we'll take a boat trip from where we can marvel at the black Flysch in Mutriku, the spectacular cliffs in Deba and the fabulous Zumaia strata. Professional guides will interpret this phenomenon for you, and you might capture beautiful pictures that you will treasure forever.
In Zumaia, we'll moor the boat and we'll walk until we get to Algorri Point, the place where major geological events and large-scale disasters that have affected the Earth have been recorded.
If all that's not enough for you, you can hike along trails of great beauty that skirt along these cliffs. You can also go on boat trips or cross the inland waters in a kayak through the Urola and Deba estuaries.
