Vintgar Gorge in Slovenia 🇸🇮 #Slovenia#sloveniatravel#slovenija#slovakia#travel#1life2xplore

We visited this scenic and beautiful Vintgar Gorge located near Lake Bled in Slovenia. Its 1.6-kilometer gorge in northwestern Slovenia in the municipalities of Gorje and Bled, four kilometers northwest of Bled. Carved by the Radovna River, it is the continuation of the Radovna Valley.

Without a doubt, Vintgar Gorge is one of the most magical places to visit in Slovenia. For 1.6 km, boardwalks crisscross their way along the Radovna River, creating an enchanting landscape that is photogenic and fun to explore. Vintgar Gorge is one of Slovenia’s most popular attractions in Triglav National Park. a crystal-clear river that looks emerald green or aqua depending upon the lighting conditions.

Vintgar Gorge was one of our top experiences in Slovenia. It’s gorgeous, it’s easy to walk, it’s easy to get to, it doesn’t cost a lot of money, and it’s fun for the entire family.

If you are looking for a very cool experience to add to your trip through Slovenia, put the Vintgar Gorge on your list.

10 Best Things To Do In Slovenia
Lake Bled

Lake Bled is one of the biggest Slovenia attractions, making it a must-see during your visit. Every year thousands of people are attracted to the giant azure lake and the quaint island which sits in the center.

Hidden away in the Alps, Lake Bled looks like it was ripped straight from the pages of a fairytale book. Surrounded by rocky mountains, medieval castles, and lush forests, this spot is so beautiful that you’ll never want to leave!

Ljubljana

One of the best things to do in Slovenia is to explore the Old Town in Ljubljana. Whether you’ve never visited the place before or you can’t keep away, you’ll always stumble upon something new and interesting in Ljubljana Old Town.

The historic beating heart of Slovenia, Ljubljana Old Town is where you’ll find meandering canals which work their way under rustic stone bridges, picturesque homes next to Gothic cathedrals, and charming plazas lined with open-air cafes.

Lake Bohinj

Lake Bohinj is one of the best places in Slovenia to try out different water sports and find out which is the one for you. Hidden away at the foot of the Bohinj Valley in the Julian Alps, this enormous lake is crystal-clear and perfectly still, making it the ideal place to enjoy a number of different sports.

Around the lake, you’ll find several kiosks where you can rent everything from kayaks and canoes to paddleboards and boats. If you’d rather take things a little easier, you can always just get in the lake and enjoy a cool swim.

Soča River

Zooming over rapids down the Soca River on a raft is one of the most exhilarating things you can do during your vacation in Slovenia. Whether you want to push yourself to the limit and try the most challenging route or get started with something a little simpler, you’ll find the perfect white water rafting tour for you.

The Soča River is an incredibly beautiful place to practice this sport. The deep turquoise color of the water, the steep canyon walls that rise up either side, and the thick, towering trees make this one of the most gorgeous places in all of Slovenia.

Kranjska Gora
Kranjska Gora is an attractive mountain and tourist sports centre throughout the year. In the winter it sees Alpine skiers compete and top ski jumpers break new records at the near-by Planica. Cyclists endeavour to conquer the highest Slovenian mountain pass, and hikers can stop by many points of interest.

Postojna Cave

Postojna Cave is the best-known cave in the world. It is also the greatest tourist attraction in Slovenia and one of the world's largest karst monuments. A fantastic web of tunnels, passages, galleries and halls, the astonishing diversity of Karst features as well as easy access are certainly the main reasons for such popularity of the cave and a large number of visitors. Check the timetable of visits by months.

Vintgar Gorge
Vintgar Gorge, carved by Radovna River, is located near Gorje, approximately 4 kilometres north-west from Bled. The 1.6-kilometre long gorge is carved amidst the glorious vertical walls of Hom and Boršt hills, and it is highlighted by the Radovna River and its waterfalls, pools and rapids.

How to Visit Vintgar Gorge in Slovenia

How to plan your visit to Vintgar Gorge in Slovenia and get tickets under a reservation system that promotes sustainable tourism.
Lea Petek of the Vintgar Gorge Tourism Authority explains why reservations are needed to keep the gorge from being overwhelmed by crowds. The walkways and bridges along the Vintgar gorge are now one-way, which means visitors will have to be prepared for a more challenging mountain hike to return to the starting point.
See the stunning beauty of the Vintgar Gorge, only 4 km from Lake Bled in Slovenia. It's also an easy day trip from Ljubljana. But make a reservation, or you'll be turned away in the parking lot!
Please note that the Vintgar Gorge is closed to the public in the winter.

Vintgar Gorge to Lake Bled, Slovenia // 2022

There are a lot of things to keep in mind when you visit Vintgar Gorge. First, you can combine it into a day trip from Ljubljana up to Lake Bled.

⏱ Video Timeline ⏱
00:01 Ljubljana day trip to Vintgar Gorge
00:20 Wooden foot bridges in the gorge
00:30 Crowd control at Vintgar
00:44 Waterfalls and emerald green pools
01:00 The walking path is one-way
01:12 The hike back to the parking lot
01:27 A bar along the trail
01:32 Tip: Buy your tickets to Vintgar Gorge online
01:42 Bike from Lake Bled to Vintgar Gorge
01:59 Construction warning

When we went, due to construction, it was easier to leave our car parked in Lake Bled, and rent bikes for the day. I'd recommend an e-bike to give you a boost going up the hills to Vintgar Gorge. It's only a few miles, and the bike path goes through pretty countryside.

I wish I'd known it was a one-way walking loop down the bridges in the gorge. Make sure you take all of your photos on the way in, because that will be your only chance.
The hike out was longer than expected. A lot of people were struggling, so bring a lot more water than you think you'll need.
Also, make sure to buy your tickets online before your visit so you don't have to wait in the long line to get in.

The water, the sun, the sky, and the experience will amount to a memory you surely will never forget. This is a serene place with a simplistic hike that is suitable for anyone.

Of my many times to Lake Bled, Slovenia, this is my first to Vintgar Gorge. It is well worth the trip. I am very happy that I was finally able to trek this place. Make sure to buy your tickets ONLINE before you go. It will save you a lot of time!

This video provides the details necessary to visually understand where to go and what to do. It may not be evident with textual information only. My last piece of advice is to TAKE THE GREEN PATH. You will not regret it. Enjoy!

PARKING NOTES:

I also got mixed advice on where to park. Many park at a place called Lip central parking lot Vintgar P+R (I think this is P3, but don't quote me) and it's 7Euro for 4 hours and the shuttle is included. It's the small village near the entrance to the Gorge. The shuttle will take you back and forth for free.

There's a small lot (50 car spots) at the entrance, but it's 4Euro per hour. I think this is P1, but also not positive.

I parked right before the P1 small lot (1 minute walk from the entrance) on the street. There are many parallel spots. Here is the address and the coordinates on the map. A man walks around with a machine and charges you 10Euro flat for the day. You put that ticket in the window.
Podhom 62, 4247 Zgornje Gorje, Slovenia (note that there's an ATM right there)
OR
Coordinates: 46.390859554956315, 14.083928167165098

You cannot go wrong, either way. You can always fall back on the further away parking too. I didn't go at rush hours. If you do park at the lot and shuttle, arrive there 30 minutes before your scheduled entrance time.
