S1 – Ep 155 – Vosburg – We Found the Fun Pan where they Race!
After our amazing lunch at Die Ketel, we decided to go and find the Fun Pan which is about 10km outside of Vosburg. We were shocked and surprised to see how big it was! This is the place where the locals from the whole district come to race with their cars once a year. We heard about the Fun Pan in Victoria West and were hoping to find it. The next morning before leaving the area I was given a tour of the museum by our host. It's a small, but really interesting place to visit. I loved the old glass hearse which is so unique and still in such good shape. On our way out of town we stopped to see the Vosburg Dam and the water points where the town gets their water from. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #vosburg #funpan #dieketel

S1 – Ep 202 – Gariep Dam – A Town on the Northern Bank of the Orange River!
We arrived late the evening at our accommodation at Gariep Dam and ordered delicious food which was delivered to our doorstep by the owner of a local restaurant. The next morning we started to explore this beautiful town located on the Northern bank of the Orange river. This town was the original dam-building community who did not want to leave after the dam was completed. So that is how it came to be. The view of the village from the top of the hill was breathtaking, not to mention the size of the dam, which is the largest in South Africa. We then took a drive through the holiday resort on the banks of the dam, it was simply fantastic. The Karoo Queen houseboat in the harbour was a beauty and what a privilege to take a tour through it. I would love to stay on board that luxury cruiser. Then we had to go and see the dam wall and it did not disappoint. It is a magnificent feat of human engineering. Unfortunately our time at the Gariep Dam came to an end way too quickly and we had to move on to our next port of call. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #gariepdam #freestate #orangeriver #karooqueen

S1 – Ep 220 – Philippolis – A Little Town Situated in the Middle of South Africa!
The gravel road I had planned to take from Vanderkloof Dam to Philippolis was closed to the public so we had to take a detour of almost 200km to reach our destination, which meant we would only arrive in the dark. This actually gave us the opportunity to see this little town in a different light to how we normally see the places we visit. Since we arrived too late to explore, we booked into our accommodation at the Philippolis Hotel for the night, enjoyed pizza for supper and woke up ready for a day to explore. Situated in the middle of South Africa, this amazing town has a rich history and so many places of interest. S1 – Ep 256 – Somerset West – Taking a Drive to a Few of our Favourite Places!
We love to spend time at the Helderberg Nature Reserve where we can enjoy the peace and quiet. There are beautiful hikes to be done here, even an eight-hour one to the top of the Helderberg Mountain which I have done a few times, Our next stop was the Lourensford Market which was spectacular as usual. We bought some beef shawarmas and they we great. Afterwards I did a quick walkthrough at the Erinvale Hotel and Spa which is another classy place and one we visit very seldom, but it's always great when we do. To top it off, we visited the Cheetah Outreach in Paardevlei. They do fantastic work here and it was great to see the wildlife in fantastic shape and so well being taken care of. Scenic mountainous Ficksburg to Fouriesburg Line behind steam Locomotives, SAR classes 25NC&15F
The scenic railway line from Bloemfontein in the west, to Bethlehem in the east, has long been considered as one of the most spectacular railway lines for steam photography in South Africa and indeed, in the world. Steam haulage on the line ended in 1987 and since then the line has declined into a shadow of its former self. Scenically the best sections were between Bethlehem and Ficksburg where the line ran through a rich agricultural region against the picturesque backdrop of the Witteberge Mountains. And that’s was this 2006 film tries to recreate featuring one of the best sections between Ficksburg and Fouriesburg.
