8,000 walrus colony in Chukotka
From late August to early October, we run tours to a colony of Pacific walrus that forms on Cape Vankarem in the far north of Chukotka's Iultin District. When this video was taken in late August, there were about 8,000 walrus in the colony: 4,000 on land and 4,000 in the sea. By early October, the colony has grown to 35,000 walrus and comes almost up to the edge of the nearest village, Vankarem. With the walrus appear a number of polar bears, who are never far from the colony and use it as their main food source. It is a great testament to the ability of the indigenous Chukchi inhabitants of Vankarem to live in harmony with the walrus and the bears, despite sea mammal hunting being their main source of food.

The presenter, better known as the Play Jaja Ding Dong guy, stole the show.
Olaf Yohansson (the character played by Hannes Óli Ágústsson in Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga) announced Iceland’s votes in a fisherman’s jumper and, apparently, zero regard for the competition’s rules as he appeared to call for a song that wasn’t even part of this year’s entries.
The Play Jaja Ding Dong comment is actually a reference to Will Ferrell’s movie Eurovision Song Contest: The Story Of Fire Saga.
Hilariously, the Icelandic jury asked for Ja Ja Ding Dong during the voting process. This is precisely why we love the contest. It has a sense of humour.
