New Zealand's HIDDEN Whakatane Beach Waterfall and Sea Caves of Kohi Point Scenic Reserve

Whakatane is known for being one of New Zealand's sunniest towns. We took advantage of the beautiful weather to go over the hill from Ohope Beach to explore the coastline of Kohi Point Scenic Reserve. We found a hidden beach waterfall, some cool sea caves, tide pools and stunning white sand beaches, far away from any crowds.

♨️🌲 Bush Walk and Hot Springs in Whakatane – New Zealand's Biggest Gap Year

Day 283: Today we’re checking out the White Pine Bush Walk in Whakatane as well as taking a dip in the Awakeri Hot Springs in Whakatane, part of the Bay of Plenty region of New Zealand!

Yesterday – Day 282, Part 2 ➜

Tomorrow – Day 284 ➜

-- About this video –

Today we are starting the day with a short and classic New Zealand bush walk in the White Pine Bush Scenic Reserve in Awakeri, just outside of the Bay of Plenty city of Whakatane. This Whakatane walk is a great forest walk in the North Island especially if you are low on time. This forest walk in the Bay of Plenty takes only about 30 minutes to complete through stunning forest.

After the White Pine Bush Walk in Whakatane we go to the Awakeri Hot Springs to bathe in the naturally heated geothermal pools. These hot pools in Whakatane are affordable or even free if staying at the Awakeri Hot Springs Holiday Park. We spend the rest of the afternoon in these North Island hot pools in the Bay of Plenty. They are one of the hot springs in New Zealand worth trying.

So what do you think of these New Zealand hot pools? Would you add this walk in Whakatane and Awakeri Hot Springs to your Whakatane travel itinerary? LUK in the comments!

LIFE'S a BEACH WHAKATANE NZ

Music by Kevin MacLeod

Ohope Beach is a beach in the eastern Bay of Plenty, on the northeast coast of the North Island of New Zealand, six kilometres east and over the hill, from Whakatane.

It is a popular holiday destination during the New Zealand summer, and features several kilometres of safe swimming beaches. The western end of the beach, named 'West End' is a popular surfing area during the summer and Christmas period.

Coastlands Beach is located just before Whakatane, taking a left hand turn before going over the Whakatane bridge. It is a great place for landbased fishing and for putting the kontiki longline out. Snapper, kahawai, trevally and yellowtail kingfish are the main fish species caught here. Also an ideal place to go for a relaxing walk with the family and the dog.

Visit NZ and Bay Of Plenty 2020. Find out what to see, what to do, where to go and best activities

The Bay of Plenty is one of NZ’s best tourist areas with excellent attractions and things to do! With geothermal parks in Rotorua and fun activities like the Luge, Zorb, Agrodome and many wildlife parks. Visit Tauranga and travel down the coast, swim with dolphins and seals, and watch whales. Excellent mountain bike parks and cycle trails, arts and crafts, hiking, tramping, fishing and sailing.

The Bay of Plenty region is one of New Zealand’s top holiday destinations. The Bay of Plenty region covers 12,200 sq.km of land with several islands in the bay, notably Mayor Island, Whale Island and the active volcano of White Island. Volcanic mountains and geothermal areas dot the landscape with Rotorua being a major tourist site with the surrounding geothermal areas and Maori cultural centres. The Bay of Plenty is also one of the fastest growing regions in New Zealand and the fifth-most populous region with the main population centres of Tauranga, Rotorua and Whakatane. Tauranga, the region's largest commercial centre, was named New Zealand's top city for economic performance.
The Bay of Plenty was named by James Cook when he sailed through the bay in 1769 after he noticed the abundant food supplies at several Maori villages there. According to local Maori traditions, the Bay of Plenty was the landing point of several migration canoes that brought Maori settlers to New Zealand. Tourism is a main part of the region’s economy with many activities and tourist attractions offering a multitude of things to see and do.
