Things to do in Rockford, Illinois

Everyone knows Chicago, but what about the quaint town nearby of Rockford. Traveling around Texas has definitely taught me not to sleep on the small towns. It’s where the pace is a little slower, there’s no traffic, and you find the greatest quirks.

Like how Rockford
🗿 Has its own rock giant guardians
🧦🐒 Is the home of the sock monkey and even has a festival to celebrate
🍑 Is where the first women baseball team, the Rockford Peaches, played and made history

There’s a lot of unique things here and beyond that you can find so much to do like
⛩️ Spend time in nature at Anderson Japanese Gardens
🦙 Have some AMAZING Peruvian food with creative cocktails at Lima Mar Restaurant
🤖 Grab coffee at the funkiest shop, Velvet Robot Coffee

Clearly, I fell in love with this little town in Illinois and it was a reminder to not be afraid to venture past the major cities! It’s where you find some of the best gems.

US 61/67 North - Imperial to Mehlville, Missouri

US 61 enters Missouri south of Steele, passing under a concrete arch that was constructed by the Mississippi County, Arkansas highway department in 1924. The alignment of the highway is closely followed by I-55 between there and the St. Louis area, with portions of the two highways overlapping. Between Howardville and Sikeston, US 61 overlaps with US 62. At Sikeston, US 61 also meets US 60. Crossing Route 32 at one of the oldest French Colonial settlements west of the Mississippi River (1735), Ste. Genevieve, the road continues through Ste. Genevieve County. The highway then turns northwest and meets US 67 at Festus. The two highways overlap until separating in the St. Louis area at Ladue, where US 61 meets I-64 and US 40, just north of the junction of US 61 and Old Route 66 (now Route 100), located in Kirkwood, which is referred to locally as the rock 'n roll crossroads of America. While in the St. Louis area, US 61 is on Lindbergh Boulevard.

After meeting I-64 and US 40, US 61 turns west with them and its overlap with the Avenue of the Saints begins. At Wentzville, the overlap with I-64 and US 40 ends when it meets I-70, with the former ending at I-70. It continues in a general northwesterly route, meeting US 54 at Bowling Green and US 36 and I-72 at Hannibal, an intersection which is I-72's western terminus. Northwest of Hannibal, US 61 meets US 24 and the two overlap until they separate at Taylor. US 61 continues north until near Wayland, where the highway turns east at Route 27 and the overlap with the Avenue of the Saints ends. Shortly before leaving Missouri, US 61 meets US 136 and the two overlap until entering Iowa. US 61 in Missouri was formerly known as Route 9.

US 61 runs along the western side of the Mississippi River between Memphis, Tennessee, and Dubuque, Iowa, and therefore never enters the state of Illinois.

Going from south to north, US 67 enters Missouri at the Arkansas state line. About 10 miles (16 km) north of the state line, it intersects US 160. At the southwest corner of Poplar Bluff, Business Route 67 goes into Poplar Bluff while US 67 bypasses Poplar Bluff to the west on a freeway-grade highway. It then joins US 60 at the northwest corner of Poplar Bluff. Both 60 and 67 then follow a four-lane route to an interchange about 6 miles (9.7 km) northwest of Poplar Bluff, where US 60 heads west toward Springfield, while US 67 heads north to St. Louis.

Construction is complete to divide the highway through Wayne, Madison, and Butler Counties, including bypasses around Greenville and Cherokee Pass. The new divided highway opened on August 19, 2011, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Additionally, MoDOT has extended the divided highway south to US 160 south of Poplar Bluff.

From Fredericktown, US 67 passes through Farmington, where an existing interchange with Route 221 was converted to a diverging diamond interchange in September 2012. US 67 then proceeds through Park Hills, Desloge, and Bonne Terre. About 25 miles (40 km) north of Bonne Terre, US 67 crosses Interstate 55 and enters Festus and Crystal City and picks up US 61. This becomes known as Truman Boulevard in Festus and Crystal City, Highway 61-67 from Herculaneum to Imperial, and Jeffco Boulevard from Arnold until it exits Jefferson County and enters St. Louis County, over the Meramec River where it becomes Lemay Ferry Road.

When US 67/61 reaches St. Louis County, It travels Lemay Ferry Road (Route 267) until it reaches Lindbergh Boulevard. There, it overlaps Lindbergh Boulevard (known as Kirkwood Road in Kirkwood). US 61 then turns west onto I-64/US 40 West towards Wentzville. Lindbergh, named for aviator Charles Lindbergh, continues north through Frontenac, Ladue, Creve Coeur, Maryland Heights, Bridgeton, Hazelwood and Florissant until it reaches Lewis & Clark Boulevard (Route 367). From there, it continues straight north to West Alton, Missouri and then crosses the Mississippi River on the Clark Bridge and enters Alton, Illinois.

The only vehicular tunnel in Missouri is located on US 67 at St. Louis Lambert International Airport, where the road tunnels under Runway 11/29.

Waltham MA - 10 fun things to do!

Often referred to as the Watch City, Waltham is certainly a city to watch. Just nine miles west of Boston, Waltham offers its own urban paradise with an endless selection of eateries, unique housing options and open green spaces.

If you’re looking for a high-end culinary experience, there’s no need to head into Boston – just walk over to Waltham’s “restaurant row” on Moody Street. There you’ll find everything from swanky steakhouses to Spanish tapas, an Indian buffet to fancy charcuterie. With new restaurants popping up all the time, your taste buds will never be bored. And you can get a little taste of everything at the annual Waltham Food and Wine Festival.

With easy access to Boston through two commuter rail stops and several exits along Route 128, Waltham is convenient place to call home. There’s something for everyone in the housing market, too – from quaint Colonials to lofts in converted factories. A great walkable downtown gives that city vibe without the Boston price tag.

Living in Waltham, you’ll quickly come to appreciate all the history the city has to offer. Waltham has many museums celebrating the city’s industrial days, including the Waltham Museum and the popular Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation. There are also a large number of estates within the city for residents to tour and enjoy, including Gore Place, the Paine Estate and the Lyman Estate.

Biking to work or running on the weekend along the Charles isn’t just for Boston residents. The river runs through Waltham, too, and provides a great way to residents to get outdoors. There are many other ways to enjoy the great outdoors in Waltham, like the 250-acre Prospect Park, which includes great hiking trails and picnic tables.

If you’re looking for still other things to do, there are many unique cultural offerings in Waltham as well. The Embassy Cinema downtown gives Waltham residents a great place to catch chart topping and independent films alike. The Waltham Philharmonic Orchestra and the Waltham Symphony Orchestra both regularly put on concerts. The city is also home to two major universities – Brandeis and Bentley – which both hold plenty of public events for locals to discover.

So if you’re looking for a new place to call home or maybe just a great place to visit, keep an eye on Waltham.

Mass Central Rail Trail, Wayland, MA

Bicycling on the Mass Central Rail Trail in Wayland, Massachusetts. Video taken on Nov. 14, 2021.

The History, Art and Beauty of Massachusetts.

We slowed things down and visited the historic area of Concord, MA. Naturally we explored the history at the Minuteman National Historical Park, but we also enjoyed the beauty of the DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum. Kristal took a day off and went shopping in the charming town of Concord and we could not do a vlog without at least one food review, which was at Love at First Bite Thai Restaurant. This was a relaxing trip filled with lots to see and do. Enjoy!

St. Petersburg Florida. LGBT Street. Walking Tour 4K. Downtown Travel Guide #1

About City:

St. Petersburg is a city in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. As of the 2020 census estimate, the population was 271,842, making it the fifth-most populous city in Florida, the second-largest city in the Tampa Bay Area, after Tampa, and the largest in the state that is not a county seat (the city of Clearwater is the seat of Pinellas County). Along with Clearwater, these cities are part of the Tampa–St. Petersburg–Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area, the second-largest in Florida with a population of around 2.8 million. St. Petersburg is located on the Pinellas peninsula between Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, and is connected to mainland Florida to the north.

St. Petersburg was founded in 1888 by John C. Williams, who purchased the land, and by Peter Demens who brought the railroad industry into the area. A coin toss bet was held between Williams and Demens to name this newly formed community. Demens won the bet and subsequently named the land after Saint Petersburg, Russia. Williams was then granted the right to name the first hotel built (which he named the Detroit Hotel). Both named their winnings after their personal hometowns. St. Petersburg was incorporated as a town on February 29, 1892 and re-incorporated as a city on June 6, 1903.

The city is often referred to by locals as St. Pete. Neighboring St. Pete Beach formally shortened its name in 1994 after a vote by its residents. St. Petersburg is governed by a mayor and city council.

With an average of some 361 days of sunshine each year, and a Guinness World Record for logging the most consecutive days of sunshine (768 days between 1967 and 1969), it is nicknamed The Sunshine City. Located on the Gulf of Mexico, the average water temperature is typically around 76 °F (24 °C). Due to its good weather and low cost of living, the city has long been a popular retirement destination, although in recent years the population has moved in a much more youthful direction.

American Style magazine ranked St. Petersburg its top mid-size city in 2011, citing its vibrant arts scene. The arts in St. Petersburg led the city to be named One of the Best Street Art Cities in the World. St. Petersburg was also listed upon one of the top three places to visit in Florida. CNN ranked the city as the seventh best place to retire, with 15 percent of the population over 65 years-old. In 2020, St. Petersburg was awarded a spot on the top cities to visit in Conde Nast's 33rd annual Conde Nast Traveler 2020 Reader's Choice Awards. The city was recognized for being a perfect getaway because of its iconic beaches and historic destinations. St. Petersburg most recently joined 290 other cities as an International City of Peace. This honor was granted by the International Cities of Peace and marks the second city in Florida to be given the title.
