Minden is a middle-sized town in the very north-east of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, the largest town in population between Bielefeld and Hanover. It is the capital of the district (Kreis) of Minden-Lübbecke, which is part of the region of Detmold. The town extends along both sides of the River Weser, and is crossed by the Mittelland Canal, which crosses the river on the Minden Aqueduct.
What to see in one day in Minden?
•The Evangelical Lutheran St. Mary's Church is a church built in Minden, East Westphalia, and dates back to the Marienstift founded in Minden at the end of the 10th century. Construction of the church began around 1022 and was expanded piece by piece. Initially without a tower, it was later built to the west of the actual church, which has been a Protestant parish church since the Reformation.
•At the weekly market in Minden on Martinikirchplatz you can buy bread, baked goods, flowers, plants, fruit, vegetables, spices, tea, herbs, berries, oil, dairy products, eggs, fish and meat, sausage, horse meat and sausage, poultry, asparagus , delicatessen, sheep's milk products, tropical fruits and berries.

•The LWL-Preußenmuseum Minden is a historical museum in the East Westphalian city of Minden in North Rhine-Westphalia. Since 2016 it has been part of the LWL museum network of the Westphalia-Lippe Regional Association. The museum building is the former defense barracks of Minden Fortress on Simeonsplatz in a military suburb of the city of Minden that was built after 1815 and has numerous buildings that still exist today. The square is surrounded by today's Minden Glacis.
•Stadttheater Minden is a municipal theatre in Minden, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The theatre has no ensemble, but stages some productions of its own. It became known for a Wagner project culminating in Der Ring in Minden.
•13 meters above the mean water level of the Weser and ten meters above the Weser meadows, the Mittelland Canal crosses the river almost in the middle of the city of Minden.
•The Weser is a river of Lower Saxony in north-west Germany. It begins at Hannoversch Münden through the confluence of the Werra and Fulda. It passes through the Hanseatic city of Bremen. Its mouth is 50 km (31 mi) further north against the ports of Bremerhaven and Nordenham. The latter is on the Butjadingen Peninsula. It then merges into the North Sea via two highly saline, estuarine mouths.

Germany: Nienburg at the Weser
Nienburg is a town and capital of the district Nienburg, in Lower Saxony.
Situated on the scenic German Timber-Frame Road, Nienburg lies on the river Weser, approximately 55 km southeast of Bremen, and 45 km northwest of Hanover.
The ground plan of the town is that of the medieval Nienburg, which can be identified by the Hamelmann plan from 1634. Also come many buildings from the Middle Ages (including Burgmannshöfe, the church and the town hall). When you like timbered houses and an old historic town centre, Nienburg is an interesting place to visit.

Bremen is a city straddling the Weser River in northwest Germany. It’s known for its role in maritime trade, represented by Hanseatic buildings on the Market Square. The ornate and Gothic town hall has a Renaissance facade and large model ships in its upper hall. Nearby is the Roland statue, a giant stone figure symbolizing freedom of trade. St. Peter’s Cathedral features medieval crypts and twin spires.
The free Hanseatic City of Bremen is a city in northern Germany with a major port on the River Weser. The population is 548,000. It is also the name of one of the states of Germany which consists of two separated enclaves on the River Weser. Bremerhaven geographically separate form the city of Bremen but administratively part of the state of Bremen.
Bremen was once a member of the medieval Hanseatic League and is still one of the most important cities in northern Germany. Together with the city of Bremerhaven on the North Sea it forms Germany's smallest state. Bremen has more than 1200 years of history, and was, for most of its existence, an independent city-state.
The Bremer Stadtmusikanten (Town Musicians of Bremen) perhaps the most well known figures associated with Bremen are characters from the Brothers Grimm fairy tale of the same name. Their image adorns many of the souvenirs in the city. Next to the Town Hall is a much photographed statue of them.
Bremen is a rather long and narrow city, lining both sides of the river Weser. Along the north-west/south-east axis it stretches about 10 km, but across only 2 km. The entire city is located on flat plains. Much of Bremen (or at least the part frequented by tourists) can be negotiated by foot - the best way to explore the old city and its surrounding districts.
Stroll around the city center and visit the Schnoor-Viertel with its old buildings - most were built between the 15th and 18th century. If you are interested in art, visit the Bremer Kunsthalle (museum of art) with one of North Germany's finest collections. If you like football, you see one of the matches of Werder Bremen, a team playing in the Bundesliga (German premier league). You can also visit their stadium Weser Stadion for a few euros when there isn't a game going on.
A good way to get in touch with the locals is to stroll along the river Weser on the scenic Osterdeich, where - in good weather - lots of little groups hanging out on the grassy hills may invite you to barbecue with them or have a beer. Don't miss the beautiful Bürgerpark.
