Infos: - Volkach mit seinen vielen mittelalterlichen Sehenswürdigkeiten ist eines der bekanntesten Ausflugsziele in Unterfranken. Die Stadt liegt im fränkischen Weinbaugebiet direkt an der bekannten Mainschleife mit der 750 ha großen Weininsel, die mit Tausenden Rebstöcken bepflanzt und von einem Wanderwegenetz durchzogen ist.
Rund um den Volkacher Marktplatz gibt es eine Vielzahl historischer Bauten wie das 1544 erbaute Rathaus zu sehen. Besonderheiten hier sind die beidseitige Außentreppe und der Verkünd-Erker. Das Rathaus wurde für Versammlungen, Gericht und Handel genutzt. Im Zentrum des Marktplatzes steht der über 500 Jahre alte Brunnen mit einer Marienskulptur.
Das markante Fachwerkhaus am Markt aus dem 16. Jahrhundert war ursprünglich eine Färberei, ehe es 1892 zum Gasthof umgebaut wurde. Ein weiteres prachtvolles Gebäude ist die im Rokokostil erbaute alte Würzburger Amtskellerei. Repräsentativ sind auch das Schelfenhaus in der gleichnamigen Gasse und die schönen Bürgerhäuser aus unterschiedlichen Epochen rund um den Marktplatz.
Wenige Meter weiter ragt der 54 m hohe Kirchturm der im 18. Jahrhundert erbauten Kirche Sankt Bartholomäus über den Stadtkern. Die reichhaltige Innenausstattung mit prachtvollen Barockaltären und Deckengemälden ist absolut sehenswert.
Von der alten Stadtbefestigung sind noch das Obere und das Untere Tor vorhanden. Beide wurden im 13. Jahrhundert erbaut und später erweitert.
Zu den beliebten Ausflugszielen rund um Volkach zählen die Vogelsburg, die Hallburg und die Wallfahrtskirche Maria im Weingarten. Die heutige Wallfahrtskirche hoch oben auf dem Bergrücken wurde im 15. Jahrhundert im spätgotischen Stil erbaut. Die „Maria im Rosengarten“ wurde vom Meisterschnitzer Tilman Riemenschneider geschaffen. Die heute komplett sanierte und bewirtete Vogelsburg steht auf den Resten einer prähistorischen Wehranlage und bietet vom Biergarten einen herrlichen Blick auf die Mainschleife. Auch die Hallburg bietet eine Aussenbewirtschaffung. Von der einst großen Burganlage sind nur noch das Wohnhaus, der Bergfried und eine Kapelle erhalten.
Das reizvolle Ambiente von Volkach ist die Grundlage für den kleinen bedeutenden Wein- und Touristenort in Unterfranken. Eine breit gestreute Gastronomie mit der beliebten fränkischen Küche und dem guten Wein führen jährlich zu über 100 000 Übernachtungen. Auch die gesamte Umgebung der Mainschleife mit Orten wie Sommerach und Nordheim mit der Weininsel im Zentrum tragen zur Beliebtheit der Region bei. Bestens ausgeschilderte Rad- und Wanderwegen in einer reizvollen Landschaft tun ein übriges dazu.

VOLKACH. Walking and visiting at the idyll of the Franconian wine region. (Germany)
Welcome to a new video at the famous Franconian wine region. For a review of another town at lower Franconia I thought Volkach is the best. A town loceated at the river Main and like Iphofen at the district of the bigger town Wurzburg. Find out more in my video.
The tour through Volkach: I went by car in the district of Wurzburg to the small town Volkach. I knew this town from another trip last year at the same region not far away of Volkach at the Benedictine Abbey Schwarzach. I parked my car in front of the city center and explored step by step all interesting places from the first tower of the city wall to the last tower of the old town. The marking place, the church was more as impressive for me as well. According to the day the small city center were emptier as with people. At the library I found an interesting entrance structured with ornamentic and over the second door was a face out of stone. According to the tradition of the Franconian wine I taste a lunch at a winery and took for the drink a typical wine for the meal. At next I went by foot to the meadow at the Main. I had the opportunity to see a logistic ship for river which cross the river during my time there. The entire trip was at first a come back after one year to the region and at second the first part to see a town which has more to see in summertime.
About Volkach: Volkach is a small town loceated at the district lower Franconia at the federal state Bavaria at Germany. The town is like Wurzburg, Kitzingen and Iphofen part of the Franconian wine region. According to the administration of lower Franconia Volkach has a population of 8843 people. The old town has a marking place a main passage which can used by cars, bikers as well and is popular for its many restaurants, wineries, and shops. The church is a catholic church and has the name Saint Bartholomeus. A popular tourist attraction is a historic train which departs only in summertime to some places at the wine region. At the river main the tourists can go by a ship to other places and towns at lower Franconia like to Wurzburg, Schweinfurt, and Karlstadt at the Main. A famous place next to Volkach is the Benedictine Abbey Schwarzach. A wine hiking tour, a trip by the historic train or a tour by ship at the Main is a beautiful experience. A wine tasting as well.
About the Franconian wine region and the wine: The Franconian wine produced in the region between the towns Wurzburg, Kitzingen and the river Main at the north part of the federal state Bavaria in Germany one of the most famous kinds of wine at the entire country. The history of the wine begun in the year around 1200 in the middle age. Today it happened a lot of farmers and landowners in the region which produce the wine in own wineries for generations. On the countryside the wine berries are growing at large square meter areas mostly at a hill or behind the towns. The bottle of the Franconian wine is special look like and is called “Bocksbeutel”. An interesting experience is to taste a wine completed with a Franconian food.
