📚 History: Najac is a village in the Aveyron department of France, known for its medieval fortress and its bastide. Najac was founded in the 11th century by the lords of Najac, who built the castle on a rocky ridge overlooking the Aveyron river. The castle was later expanded and fortified by the kings of France and England, who fought for its control during the Hundred Years' War. Najac became a royal bastide in the 13th century, under the orders of Alphonse de Poitiers, the brother of King Louis IX. The bastide was a planned town with a grid layout and a central square. aujourd'hui c'est Villefranche de Rouergue qui est à l'honneur! Visite de la ville par le sentier du patrimoine ainsi que son marché magistral. D'ailleurs je n'ai pas pu gardé tous les plans de ce dernier au montage tellement il est immense. Tout le centre ville est à voir ainsi que les abords de l'Aveyron (cours d'eau). From Villefranche to Mont Alban February 2014
The video clip shows the walk/hike from Villefranche to Mont Alban on a cloudy and rather chilly winter day. It is one of the walks recommended by the guide randoxygène (in French). Elevation gain is 220 m, distance 4,5 km and duration 2 hours. Great views from the hilltop.
