The ULTIMATE SICILY ROAD TRIP - Taormina, Ortigia, Agrigento, Erice & MORE (Italy’s Hidden Gems)
Welcome to Sicily, Italy's southern island nestled in the heart of the Mediterranean. While Italy attracts millions of tourists each year, many tend to focus on its more iconic cities and regions. Sicily is by no means a hidden gem, but it certainly provides a more authentic and less crowded Italian experience. With its alluring mix of ancient ruins, charming coastal towns, and delicious cuisine, this is the Italy we've been looking for. We are so lucky that Tommy’s parents are joining us on this unforgettable roadtrip as we go beyond the usual tourist hotspots and immerse ourselves in the Sicilian culture.
Our first destination was the enchanting town of Taormina. In this picturesque, cliffside town, there was so much to do. We visited Isola Bella, a stunning island just off the coast, indulged in incredible dishes like the iconic Bam Bar granitas and pistachio pasta, and delved into the rich history at the ancient amphitheater.
We then headed to Ortigia, a charming island brimming with character and history. Strolling through the streets, we discovered the vibrant outdoor market, where local vendors displayed an array of fresh produce, artisanal crafts, spices, and FRESH seafood. The market's lively atmosphere was sensory overload, and we couldn't resist sampling some of the incredible seafood. The culinary scene in Ortigia, especially its exceptional seafood, makes it an unmissable highlight on any Sicily road trip.
Agrigento's Valley of the Temples stands as an essential stop on a Sicily journey. This ancient archaeological site has well-preserved Greek ruins that transport visitors back in time. We went at sunset for ideal lighting and a great atmosphere.
Erice, a hilltop town in Sicily, is a must-visit destination. With its cobblestone streets and medieval architecture, the town offers a charming and historic atmosphere. We tried the local cookies, which were so yummy. The town's unique blend of history and culinary delights makes it a memorable stop on any Sicilian itinerary.
We spent a couple nights in Castellammare del Golfo, a charming town on the northwest coast of Sicily.
We ended our road trip spending few days by the sea near Messina, providing a perfect place to reflect on our incredible Sicilian adventure.

In this video I explore Sicily, Italy. I visit towns in the South East region of Sicily, including Catania, Noto, Syracuse and Ortigia. Sicily is a fascinating island in the South of Italy, with a rich mix of culture, history, food and the friendliest locals in Italy! I explore the bustling fish market in Catania, as well as try some popular Catanese dishes like pasta alla norma and eggplant caponata, I also feel adventurous enough to try the Catania specialty, horse meat burgers! I then visit the beautiful region of Noto and do some wine tasting of the famous nero d'avola red wine at a beautiful vineyard. Noto is a beautiful town known for it's sandstone cathedrals. I also visit the seaside town of Syracuse and Ortigia which have some incredible ancient Greek sites like the archeological park of Syracuse.
A HUGE thank you to Renato for such a fun tour of Catania, I highly recommend his tour. Here is the link:

1) perchè è comunque una bella azione di marketing che da visibilità al nostro comune, riconoscendone le eccellenze storiche artistico-storico e paesaggistiche;
2) perchè ha messo in risalto il senso di appartenenza dei mussomelesi che hanno partecipato con grande entusiasmo e passione.
Grazie a tutti e forza Mussomeli
Il sindaco
Giuseppe Catania

VISIONS OF SICILY, ITALY #shorts #trending #viral
VISIONS OF SICILY, ITALY #shorts #trending #viral features stunning and spectacular aerial, walking, and drone video footage great for travel, visit, and tourism planning set to original music. Sicily (Italian: Sicilia) is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and one of the 20 regions of Italy. It is one of the five Italian autonomous regions and is officially referred to as Regione Siciliana. The region has 5 million inhabitants. Its capital city is Palermo. Sicily is in the central Mediterranean Sea, south of the Italian Peninsula, from which it is separated by the narrow Strait of Messina. Its most prominent landmark is Mount Etna, the tallest active volcano in Europe, and one of the most active in the world, currently 3,329 m (10,922 ft) high. The island has a typical Mediterranean climate.
The earliest archaeological evidence of human activity on the island dates from as early as 12,000 BC. By around 750 BC, Sicily had three Phoenician and a dozen Greek colonies and it was later the site of the Sicilian Wars and the Punic Wars. After the fall of the Roman Empire in the 5th century AD, Sicily was ruled during the Early Middle Ages by the Vandals, the Ostrogoths, the Byzantine Empire, and the Emirate of Sicily. The Norman conquest of southern Italy led to the creation of the County of Sicily in 1071, that was succeeded by Kingdom of Sicily, a state that existed from 1130 until 1816. Later, it was unified under the House of Bourbon with the Kingdom of Naples as the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. The island became part of Italy in 1860 following the Expedition of the Thousand, a revolt led by Giuseppe Garibaldi during the Italian unification, and a plebiscite. Sicily was given special status as an autonomous region on 15 May 1946, 18 days before the Italian institutional referendum of 1946.
Sicily has a rich and unique culture, especially with regard to the arts, music, literature, cuisine, and architecture. It is also home to important archaeological and ancient sites, such as the Necropolis of Pantalica, the Valley of the Temples, Erice and Selinunte. Byzantine, Arab, Roman and Norman rule over Sicily has led to a blend of cultural influences.

Why We Left Sicily: Unveiling The Real Reason
Curious about why we left Sicily? Watch this video to find out the real reason behind our decision to leave this beautiful island.

▶️ 𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗯𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗲:
We moved to Sicily to enjoy our time in Croce's home country, seeking a peaceful yet vibrant lifestyle away from routine.
Our time in Sicily has been transformative. Living among historic sites, embracing local culture, and savoring the scenic beauty has deeply enriched our lives, allowing us to slow down and create lasting memories.
However, personal reasons, including family ties, have led us to return to Texas. This isn't a farewell to Sicily but a pause as we carry the lessons and experiences from this chapter into our future.

00:00 Why We Left Sicily: Unveiling The Real Reason
00:10 Life in Texas and Decision to Move to Sicily: In 2022, after many wonderful years in Texas with our three adult children, we decided it was time for a change. In our 60s, we embraced a new adventure by relocating to Croce’s birthplace in Carini, Sicily.
00:29 Croce's and Carol's Background: Carol, a Navy brat from the Northeast, and Croce, originally from Sicily, immersed themselves in Sicilian life, reconnecting with old friends and enjoying the island's rich history and culture.
00:45 Moving to Sicily and Connecting with Old Friends: Croce's reunion with a schoolmate after 50 years was a highlight. Life in Sicily offered a blend of timeless charm and modern comforts, with its Mediterranean climate enhancing daily.
01:07 Grandchild Announcement and Return to Texas for Family: An emotional necklace gift and news of a new grandchild drew us back to Texas. The decision was evident because of the pull of family and the desire to be close during essential milestones.
01:52 Planning the Move Back to Sicily: Although returning to Texas felt right, our journey in Sicily wasn't over. We're now preparing for our next chapter, this time with a one-way ticket back to Sicily.
02:22 Cost of Living and New Place in Sicily: We've arranged a new home and car, and we are ready to share all the financial details of living in Sicily. Croce will break down the costs, from rent to groceries, for anyone curious about life on the island.
02:54 Upcoming Travel Plans to Return to Sicily: Our travel plans are set, and we couldn’t be more excited to continue sharing this journey with you.
Stay tuned for more updates on our Sicilian adventure, and feel free to reach out with any questions. Thanks for being a part of our story!
