Paris St.Séraphin-de-Sarov. Hidden Russian Orthodox church!
Getting to this church -- St.Séraphin-de-Sarov, on-time might be a challenge: you need to find the street-side large green doors, then, once within, head down a short wondrous pavee-path and around past a building straight out of the town from Downtown Abbey. (‘Carson’ was unavailable…) Then, in past the green metal gate and behold, an unreal urban oasis of calm and serenity infused with the heady fragrances of all manner of flowers and plants… The day I arrived, someone was practicing a wonderful Violin! …(and did I mention the unreal quiet)?
It was supposedly built from wooden crates from the area, and consecrated by Metropolitan Eulogius (Guéorguievski ) …being financed by gifts from Russian émigrés whites from the area. Paris saw an flux of Russians post revolution…. 2 TRUNKS: The church is made entirely of wood, and goes one better …having a live maple tree growing through the roof of the church yet another, large’ish trunk (dead) also within the church. It is modest sized, yet well appointed, among the icons in the church are works of Joan Reitlinger and Mother Mary Skobtsov . IT WAS REBUILT IN THE 1970'S...I BELIEVE...

Video of the St Sever CWGC Cemetery in Rouen, unusual in that the officers are buried in one place and the men in another. This is most unusual and went against the approach at the time.

Using the Hancock Door to Unlock Unheard Historical Voices w/ Patrick Gabridge & Courtney O’Connor
Patrick Gabridge and Courtney O’Connor, playwright and director of Blood on the Snow (2016, 2017) and Cato & Dolly (2018) shares the history of the Hancock Mansion and its household, as well as the process of creating site- and object-specific theatrical work in their presentation, Using the Hancock Door to Unlock Unheard Historical Voices.

About the session: The Hancock Mansion was erected in 1737 by Thomas Hancock, Boston’s richest merchant, atop Beacon Hill. His nephew, John Hancock, who was the first elected Governor of Massachusetts, inherited the House in 1764 and it served as a prominent meeting spot during the lead up to the Revolution and beyond. John Hancock was a popular benefactor and politician in Boston and was the first elected governor of Massachusetts. By the mid-1800s the Mansion had fallen out of style and the family struggled to maintain it, and 1863 it was torn down and some items were auctioned off.
The destruction of the House spurred the creation of the historical preservation movement in Boston, which helped save the Old State House, the Old South Meeting House, the Paul Revere House, and many other buildings.
The door from the Hancock Mansion is on display at the Old State House, and a new one-act play explores unheard voices from history and the Hancock household. This session will share the history of the house and Hancock household, as well as the process of creating site- and object-specific theatrical work.
