The World's Most Famous Picnic Spot
Welcome to the Macedon Ranges, home to one of the world's most famous picnic spots - Hanging Rock.
Rumoured to have been the haunt of bushranger 'Mad Dog' Morgan, this small extinct volcano (or mamelon) was formed by an upheaval of lava millions of years ago. It was made famous by the classic Australian novel and later movie Picnic at Hanging Rock, the mythic tale of the Valentine's Day disappearance of a group of schoolgirls and their teacher while visiting Hanging Rock in 1901. The legend endures, and an air of mystery and intrigue still lingers.
The mound of massive granite tors is riddled with caves, tunnels and overhanging boulders, its shapes and acoustic echoes enhancing its already spooky reputation making it an ideal hiking destination with the views from the top well worth the walk.
Surrounded by breath-taking natural scenery, expansive forests and heritage gardens, the Macedon Ranges regions has the sights, sounds, smells and tastes to satisfy every sense - and best of fall, it's only an hour from Melbourne.
Nestled among the rolling hills of the surrounding region is a treasure trove of some of regional Victoria's best food and wine.

Melbourne /ˈmɛlbən, -bərn/[3] is the capital and most populous city in the state of Victoria, and the second most populous city in Australia.[2] The Melbourne City Centre is the hub of the greater metropolitan area and the Census statistical division—of which Melbourne is the common name. The metropolis is located on Port Phillip, a large natural bay, with the city centre positioned on the estuary of the Yarra River at the northernmost point of the bay.[4] The metropolitan area then extends south from the City Centre, along the eastern and western shorelines of Port Phillip, and expands into the hinterland. The City Centre is situated in the municipality known as the City of Melbourne, and the metropolitan area consists of a further 30 municipalities.[5] The metropolis has a population of 4.25 million, growing the fastest in numerical terms and fifth fastest in percentage terms since the previous year.[1] Inhabitants of Melbourne are called Melburnians.[6] Melbourne was founded in 1835 (47 years after the European settlement of Australia) by settlers from Launceston in Van Diemen's Land.[7] It was named by Governor of New South Wales Sir Richard Bourke in 1837, in honour of the British Prime Minister of the day, William Lamb, 2nd Viscount Melbourne.[7] Melbourne was officially declared a city by Queen Victoria in 1847.[8] In 1851, it became the capital city of the newly created colony of Victoria.[8] During the Victorian gold rush of the 1850s, it was transformed into one of the world's largest and wealthiest cities.[9] After the federation of Australia in 1901, it served as the interim seat of government of the newly created nation of Australia until 1927.[10] Melbourne has been ranked as the world's most liveable city in ratings published by the Economist Group's Intelligence Unit (in 2011 and 2012).[11] It has also been ranked in the top ten Global University Cities by RMIT's Global University Cities Index (since 2006)[12][13][14] and the top 20 Global Innovation Cities by the 2thinknow Global Innovation Agency (since 2007).[15][16][17][18] Often referred to as the cultural capital of Australia,[19] Melbourne is the birthplace of cultural institutions such as Australian film (as well as the world's first feature film),[20][21] Australian television,[22] Australian rules football,[23] the Australian impressionist art movement (known as the Heidelberg School)[24] and Australian dance styles such as New Vogue and the Melbourne Shuffle.[25][26] It is also a major centre for contemporary and traditional Australian music.[25] The main passenger airport serving the metropolis is Melbourne Airport, which is the second busiest in Australia. The Port of Melbourne is Australia's busiest seaport for containerised and general cargo.[27] Melbourne is also home to the world's largest tram network.[28]
Melbourne is an international cultural centre, with cultural endeavours spanning major events and festivals, drama, musicals, comedy, music, art, architecture, literature, film and television. Melbourne is the birthplace of Australian film and television,[22] Australian rules football,[23] the Heidelberg School of Australian Impressionism, Australian contemporary dance (including the Melbourne Shuffle and New Vogue styles), and is home to the National Gallery of Victoria, Australia's oldest and largest public art museum. In 2008, Melbourne became the second city after Edinburgh to be declared a UNESCO City of Literature. It has thrice shared top position in a survey by The Economist of the world's most liveable cities on the basis of a number of attributes which include its broad cultural offerings.[124]

Warrandyte River Reserve
Warrandyte is located within the City of Manningham local, 24 km north-east of Melbourne's Central Business District.
A Wurundjeri dreamtime story tells of a great eagle; who once gazed down upon his people from the star Altair and saw their wrong doing. Awaiting their return, with a mighty crash of thunder, he hurled down a star to destroy them. Where the star struck created a gorge in which much of the town today is located. Bunjil's people remembered the spot, and referred to it as Warrandyte, speculated to mean that which is thrown.
Today, the Warrandyte town is a popular tourist spot and abounds with galleries, craft shops, restaurants, coffee shops and historical places of interest. The Warrandyte Market is held on the first Saturday of each month (except in January) adjacent the Yarra River at Stiggants Reserve in Yarra St.

Eltham Victoria Australia Slideshow
Eltham is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 20 km north-east of the Central Business District located within the Shire of Nillumbik local government area. Eltham recorded a population of 18,847 at the 2021 census.
Eltham is one of the 'green wedge' areas that provide relatively undeveloped, accessible environments within the Melbourne suburban region. These green wedge areas are under constant pressure from developments such as road and freeway expansions, but Eltham has managed to retain many tree-lined streets and leafy reserves. However, the character of the suburb is changing rapidly, with increased road traffic and higher-density housing becoming more common.
Eltham's tourist attractions include the artists colony Montsalvat and the Diamond Valley Railway, the largest ridable miniature railway in Australia.
