Journey to the Top of Vitkov Hill | Prague
Explore along with me in the journey to the Top of Vitkov Hill. When I put it like that it sounds like a glorious adventure...but that was not the case.
Unfortunately the weather was not great once again and so I only was able to stay in Prague. I always wanted to visit Vitkov Hill but never actually did even after many years that I am in Prague for. So I decided to finally go there and take you guys along for the small trip.
Now the end result is not so great as I hoped so it actually did become a rather monotone experience but non the less I still hope you will enjoy the trip.
I am still playing around with the camera and slowly on find my sort of connection with it. As the restrictions here in the Czech Republic slowly seem to get lifted it brings better opportunities, meaning more travel and more fun videos, however for some of my ideas most of the restrictions should be lifted but in the meantime I will try to give you at least a nice view of the lovely city that is Prague.

Prague 4k walk HDR The place for meditation, Vitkov Hill, National Memorial, Žižkov🇨🇿 Czech Republic
Today on our Prague 4k walk, we will visit Vitkov Hill, where the National Memorial in honor of the Czechoslovak legionaries is located. It includes the third-largest bronze rider statue in the world of Jan Žižka. Great place for meditation.
Vítkov Hill, with its densely interwoven network of walking trails, offers a unique view of almost the entire city. The area had undergone significant improvements since 1929, when the National Monument was built here. The whole park still exudes an atmosphere of the 1930s, dominated by a bronze equestrian statue of Jan Žižka, one of the world's ten most giant equestrian statues.
Under the reign of Charles IV, they begin to plant vineyards on the Vítkov slopes. Some of them belonged to the Prague alderman Vítek of Hora, after whom the hill has got its name. On July 14, 1420, the Hussite troops led by Jan Žižka defeated the Crusaders at this place, and since that time, the adjacent area has been called Žižkov.
Throughout the centuries, the vineyards were devastated, and as late as the 90s of the 19th century František Thomayer was asked to convert a raw hill into a town park. However, the First World War interrupted those plans. The park underwent significant improvements while building the National Memorial, whose construction began in 1929. There is only low vegetation on the plateau around the Memorial. At the same time, the slopes of the entire hill are covered with thick vegetation creating out of the hill a monumental green pedestal. For example, the black locust, Norway maple, tree of heaven, horse-chestnut, small-leaved lime, Turkey oak, white mulberry, eastern white pine, honeysuckle, and spiraeas grow there. The access road from the Ohrada is lined by silver maples, and in this part, there is a dense network of trails along the Vítkov slopes. The park area is 14.93 hectares.
National Museum – National Memorial on Vítkov Hill (Národní památník na Vítkově) The memorial building on top of Vítkov Hill was built between the years 1928 and 1938 in honor of the Czechoslovak legionaries. The exhibition The Crossroads of Czech and Czechoslovak Statehood captures significant turning points in the history of the 20th century. The monument also features the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a monumental equestrian statue of Jan Žižka, and a café with a panoramic view of the city.
Žižka z Trocnova a Kalicha (English: John Zizka of Trocnov and the Chalice; c. 1360 – October 11, 1424) was a contemporary Czech general and follower of Jan Hus and a Radical Hussite who led the Taborites. Žižka was a successful military leader and is now a Czech national hero. He was nicknamed One-eyed Žižka, having lost one and then both eyes in battle. Jan Žižka led Hussite forces against three crusades and never lost a single battle despite being completely blind in his last stages of life. He was born in the small village of Trocnov in the Kingdom of Bohemia into an aristocratic family. From his youth, he was attached to the royal court and held the office of Chamberlain to Queen Sofia of Bavaria. He fought in the Battle of Grunwald (July 15, 1410), where he defended Radzyń against the Teutonic Order. Later he played a prominent role in the civil wars in Bohemia during the reign of Wenceslas IV. In the Battle of Kutná Hora (1421), he defeated the army of the Holy Roman Empire and the Hungarian Kingdom. The effectiveness of his field artillery against the royal cavalry in this battle made it a successful element of Hussite armies.Žižka's tactics were unorthodox and innovative. In addition to training and equipping his army according to their abilities, he used armored wagons fitted with small cannons and muskets, anticipating the tank of five hundred years later. He exploited geographic features to the full and maintained good discipline in his armies. He quickly trained peasants to repeatedly face highly trained and armored opponents who usually outnumbered his own troops. A monument was erected on the Vítkov Hill in Prague to honor Jan Žižka and his victory on this hill in 1420. It is the third-largest bronze equestrian statue in the world.

Visiting Prague? One of the great tourist destinations, and widely regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Prague, the Capital of the Czech Republic, never fails to impress visitors - there's good reason why it's considered a truly great European capital city.
The most famous of all Prague tourist attractions would have to be the Charles Bridge, this historical focal point of Prague is lined with statues of saints and is a great photo opportunity - a stroll here can be combined with a walk around the Old Town area, it's the part of the city that most people rave about, beautiful, historic and perfect to most that spend some time walking, wandering and taking photos.
The Prague Castle, which is the place you'll find a number of museums and churches is the next point of interest you'll want to visit in Prague - the grounds are extensive so taking a day to explore them should be one of the priorities of anyone who takes time to visit the city.
Prague also has some great green spaces to explore, among them both Petrin Gardens and Letna Park - the views from both are some of the best you'll find around the city - there's also plenty to see and do within the landscaped areas. For those interested in the human history of Prague then a visit to Vitkov or to one of the many world-class museums will help fill in the knowledge banks.
Other things to do around Prague would be a visit to Loreto - a famous place of pilgrimage for many and the Prague Zoo, which is globally recognized as one of the leaders in their fields, particularly when it comes to endangered species and breeding programs.
In summary Prague IS an amazing city - it attracts millions of visitors a year and it's not hard to see why. From the Old Town to the Zoo and everything in between a grand time would seem to be assured in Prague.

Background:
Under the name National Liberation Memorial, the memorial was built in the years 1928–1938 in honour of the Czechoslovak legionaries; it was re-built and extended after the end of the WW2 in order to commemorate the second – anti-Nazi resistance. After 1948, it was used to promote national ideology and regime. Prominent representatives of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia were buried here. The mausoleum of Klement Gottwald was established here in 1953. The Memorial slowly started to be forgotten. After 1989, all of the remains buried here were taken away, however, for a long time particular utilisation was a subject of discussion. In 2001, the Vítkov National Memorial became part of a government resolution on rehabilitation and reconstruction of some memorials related to Czechoslovak history of the 20th century.
