So where exactly do Amtrak trains go in the United States? This video is an in-depth look at where Amtrak can take you, and how you can use Amtrak and its connecting services to get around America.

To get around America and travel between the cities on this map, sometimes it’s a single ride on one train and sometimes it isn’t. Most importantly, there’s no coast-to-coast service. So if you want to travel from, say, New York to Los Angeles, you’ll have to transfer. Most transfers between the east and the west part of the country are done in Chicago, which is a major Amtrak hub. You can also transfer in New Orleans.

The best way to figure out exactly how to get from place to place on Amtrak is to let them decide. When you buy tickets on the Amtrak website, you just put in your starting and ending points and it will give you whatever options there are. Often there aren’t really as many options as you’d think, assuming you want as few transfers as possible. For example, despite all the Amtrak lines in the northeast, there’s only one direct route between Boston and Chicago, and only two between New York and Chicago.

Speaking of the northeast, this is arguably the best-served area of the United States. Compared to other parts of the country, quite a few shorter and more specialized routes exist here. So you can take the Keystone Service between New York and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; or the Pennsylvanian between New York and Pittsburgh. The Downeaster goes between Boston and Brunswick, Maine. From New York, the Adirondack and Maple Leaf take you to Montreal and Toronto, respectively. So, if you’re traveling around the northeast on Amtrak, you’re fairly well covered.

What if you want to go from Washington DC to Denver? In this case you’ll need two trains, either the Cardinal or the Capitol Limited to Chicago, and then the California Zephyr to Denver.

Now, while there are a lot of major and some not-so-major cities on this map, and thus ways to travel between them on Amtrak, there are obviously some gaps. We already saw how Amtrak doesn’t even enter Wyoming or South Dakota at all, and other states like New Hampshire, Tennessee, and Delaware just barely. And what about major destinations Amtrak *does* go, like Atlanta? Only one route passes through Atlanta, the Crescent. That means there’s no easy way to get between Atlanta and… Chicago, or Florida, or Nashville. New Orleans and Washington DC, those are pretty much your only options from Atlanta. In fact Amtrak doesn’t go anywhere near Nashville. Nor does it go to Phoenix, or Las Vegas, or Boise or Twin Falls, or Augusta Maine. And on and on.

The good news is that Amtrak partners with various transportation services, usually buses, around the country to provide access to many more destinations. This map, which is on the Amtrak website, shows these connecting routes in green. Amtrak calls them Thruway services. This is how you can fill in a lot of the gaps in Amtrak’s main train routes, and get to Las Vegas, or to Phoenix, or Montgomery Alabama, or Sarasota, or Nashville, or way up through Wisconsin and Michigan. This is how you explore more of Oregon and Colorado, and Kentucky and Ohio… and yes, how you can use Amtrak to move around the great state of Wyoming.

See you on the rails!

Illinois Tourist Attractions, Chicago, Illinois Travel Guide | Top 43 Places To Visit in Illinois

Tourist Attractions in the USA more videos:

Illinois is a state in the Midwestern area of the United States. It is the sixth most crowded state and 25th biggest state as far as land zone, and is regularly noted as a microcosm of the whole country. With Chicago in the upper east, little modern urban communities and incredible agrarian profitability in focal and northern Illinois, and characteristic assets like coal, timber, and oil in the south, Illinois has a differing financial base and is a noteworthy transportation center point. The Port of Chicago interfaces the state to other worldwide ports from the Great Lakes, by means of the Saint Lawrence Seaway, to the Atlantic Ocean, and the Great Lakes to the Mississippi River, by means of the Illinois Waterway.

Some of the best attractions to see in Minnesota and Wisconsin on the Great River Road Trip are The Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, The Glensheen Historic Estate, and Jay Cooke State Park in Minnesota. The Lower Wisconsin Riverway, The Taliesin Estate, and The National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame in Wisconsin.

The Great River Road Trip was one of the United States’ first scenic byways. Starting in 1931, it wound along the Mississippi River from New Orleans to St. Paul and on up to Lake Superior.

The idea for this trip came from a man named Horace King who wanted to create an American equivalent of the famous European driving tour known as The Grand Tour. He thought that following America’s longest river would be perfect for such a trip but had no way of knowing what people might expect or enjoy seeing along the way. He turned to his friend John Nolen and asked him if he would come up with some suggestions for places that could be added to make it into a true scenic byway, like those found in Europe. Today it is a famous place for scenic road trips.

Top 10 CITIES Switzerland: Most beautiful Swiss Places – The Highlights [Travel Guide]

Switzerland is full of beautiful cities! They are urban, vibrant and very happening. Although Switzerland is a small country, the diversity among the cities is very noticeable. The architecture, the art and the culture differ a lot from city to city. You will find the cities of Switzerland by the river, lake or even in the valleys. Each city has its unique appearance as well as its hotspots and attractions of where to go to.
Sion is the capital of the very touristy canton of Valais (Wallis). Interestingly, Sion is only little known but ranks easily among the most beautiful cities of Switzerland. Sion feels like being in Italy but is a French-speaking city. Sion is vibrant, full of street art and also a foodie hub. The most remarkable however are the two castles up on the hills. Lugano is the largest city of Ticino in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland. Lugano lays by the lake, surrounded by the Swiss Alps, and one can feel that Italy is quite near. Lugano charms with its many alleys, culture, lake promenade and its view points. The best view over the surrounding and the city of Lugano you can get at the Monte Brè or Monte San Salvatore. Basel is the hub for the pharmaceutical industry. Basel is an old city and full of culture. It’s important to explore the many alleys with their colorful houses, see the red city hall, the minster and cross the bridges. Basel has a strong connection to its traditions. Important to mention here are the Vogelgryff and the Morgestraich. Bern is the federal city (capital) of Switzerland and the only town that is considered UNESCO world heritage. Very typical for Bern are the many arcades and the fountains. Bern’s old city is really a highlight, thus make sure to spend here at least half a day. Neuchâtel is in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, a town that feels Mediterranean and sort of French/Italian. The highlight of Neuchâtel are the lake promenade, the graffiti alley and the collegiate church with the castle. Schaffhausen is probably the largest and best preserved old city in Switzerland. Schaffhausen’s old town charms with its colorful houses and oriel windows (balcony windows). Schaffhausen is easy to explore by walk it’s pretty much car-free. The best things to do in and around Schaffhausen are a visit to the Museum zu Allerheiligen, walking at the Vordergasse alley, going up to the Munot and seeing the nearby Rhinefalls. The Munot is a centre for culture and hosts various events. Zurich is the largest city in all of Switzerland. It’s the hub for innovation and business but at the same time is a very touristy destination. Zurich’s old city concentrates around the Limmat quay. Walk along the river Limmat, enter the many protestant churches or head up to the Lindenhof and Polyterrase to enjoy a great vista over the old city of Zurich. Zurich is modern but also very cultural; the major event being the Sechseläuten festival. Fribourg is a city on two levels. The old city of perfectly preserved and thus great to explore. Ascend the church tower of the St. Nicolas cathedral or the Loretta chapel to enjoy a brilliant vista. Fribourg city has also some similarities with Luxemburg. Solothurn is the most beautiful baroque city of Switzerland. The old town is full of beautiful houses and concentrates around the river Aare. The major landmark is the St. Urseren Cathedral that offers you a great view from its tower. Lucerne is no doubt the most beautiful of the Top 10 Swiss Cities. Lucerne has been a favorite for many tourists since it offers so many great things such as a charming river promenade along the Reuss, a great view over Lake Lucerne (Vierwaldstättersee) and the Swiss Alps and otherwise seems very inviting with its alleys and painted houses. Lucerne’s best attractions are the Jesuitenkirche, Gletschergarten museum and many more. Explore Lucerne on the water by taking a boat ride or head up to Mount Pilatus to get a perfect vista over the Swiss Alps and this old city.

Cheap AND Safe Places in Illinois

High gas prices, inflation, shrinking package sizes...these things are all impacting Americans, but it's worse in some parts of the country. In the dense, metropolitan cities in the U.S., costs were expensive to begin with, and that's exactly what you see in Chicago. The city dwellers deal with high taxes and an inflated cost of living regularly, but elsewhere in the state of Illinois, the cost of living is much lower. For those who are looking for a place to live that is both affordable and has a low crime rate, you've come to the right place. In this video, we're looking at nine Illinois communities that are cheap and safe.

Best Places in Bavaria (New Version)

No other German state has such a diverse landscape and such a distinctive and down-to-earth culture as the Free State of Bavaria. In addition to the charming nature with the highest mountains in Germany as well as huge lakes, idyllic river valleys and even large plains, the Bavarian customs in particular determine the charm of this unmistakable region. Strictly speaking, there are actually two regions. Bavaria is divided into Upper and Lower Bavaria and the Franconian regions in the north. Upper Bavaria and the Alpine region are, of course, particularly well-known throughout the world. The entire state is therefore often equated with the traditional rural architecture, the wooden houses decorated with carvings, Bavarian facade paintings and flowering balcony boxes, and the cultivation of old customs. #bavaria #germany #bestplaces

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - Driving Through Market Square (2021)

To view this ride at 4x speed visit...

Market Square is a public space located in Downtown Pittsburgh at the intersection of Forbes Avenue (originally named Diamond Way in colonial times) and Market Street. The square was home to the first courthouse, first jail (both in 1795) and the first newspaper (1786) west of the Atlantic Plain, the Pittsburgh Gazette. A public/private modernization in the late 2000s has re-established the square as a social and cultural hub. A great number of restaurants, ranging from fast casual to fine dining, cafes and retailers occupy ground level buildings immediately facing the square, while housing units and offices occupy upper levels.

Market Square is a frequent location for local events and celebrations, including a farmers' market held every Thursday and a Christmas village. The square also holds many temporary non-repeating events; as an example, in the lead up to the reviving of an airline route between Pittsburgh International and London Heathrow, British Airways launched a promotional British-style telephone booth in the square where locals were able to enter raffles and competitions for free flights and other prizes.

Pittsburgh is a city in the state of Pennsylvania in the United States and the county seat of Allegheny County. An estimated population of about 300,286 residents live within the city limits as of 2019, making it the 66th-largest city in the U.S. and the second-most populous city in Pennsylvania, behind Philadelphia. The Pittsburgh metropolitan area is the anchor of Western Pennsylvania; its population of 2.32 million is the largest in both the Ohio Valley and Appalachia, the second-largest in Pennsylvania, and the 27th-largest in the U.S.

Pittsburgh is located in the southwest of the state, at the confluence of the Allegheny River and the Monongahela River, forming the Ohio River. Pittsburgh is known both as the Steel City for its more than 300 steel-related businesses and as the City of Bridges for its 446 bridges. The city features 30 skyscrapers, two inclined railways, a pre-revolutionary fortification and the Point State Park at the confluence of the rivers. The city developed as a vital link of the Atlantic coast and Midwest, as the mineral-rich Allegheny Mountains led to the region being contested by the French and British empires, Virginians, Whiskey Rebels, and Civil War raiders.

Aside from steel, Pittsburgh has led in the manufacturing of other important materials — aluminum and glass — and in the petroleum industry. Additionally, it is a leader in computing, electronics, and the automotive industry. For part of the 20th century, Pittsburgh was behind only New York City and Chicago in corporate headquarters employment; it had the most U.S. stockholders per capita. Deindustrialization in the 1970s and 1980s laid off area blue-collar workers as steel and other heavy industries declined, and thousands of downtown white-collar workers also lost jobs when several Pittsburgh-based companies moved out. The population dropped from a peak of 675,000 in 1950 to 370,000 in 1990. However, this rich industrial history left the area with renowned museums, medical centers, parks, research centers, and a diverse cultural district.

After the deindustrialization of the mid-20th century, Pittsburgh has transformed into a hub for the health care, education, and technology industries. Pittsburgh is a leader in the health care sector as the home to large medical providers such as University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). The area is home to 68 colleges and universities, including research and development leaders Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh. Google, Apple Inc., Bosch, Facebook, Uber, Nokia, Autodesk, Amazon, Microsoft and IBM are among 1,600 technology firms generating $20.7 billion in annual Pittsburgh payrolls. The area has served as the long-time federal agency headquarters for cyber defense, software engineering, robotics, energy research and the nuclear navy. The nation's eighth-largest bank, eight Fortune 500 companies, and six of the top 300 U.S. law firms make their global headquarters in the area, while RAND Corporation (RAND), BNY Mellon, Nova, FedEx, Bayer, and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) have regional bases that helped Pittsburgh become the sixth-best area for U.S. job growth.

In 2015, Pittsburgh was listed among the eleven most livable cities in the world. The Economist's Global Liveability Ranking placed Pittsburgh as the most or second-most livable city in the United States in 2005, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2018. The region is a hub for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and energy extraction.
