Umarkot | Top Places | Tourist Guide |Sindh Pakistan
Originally known as Amarkot, the present town of Umerkot was the capital of medieval Sindh province, including some parts of present Rajasthan (Rajputana) state of India. This province was ruled by the Hindu Sodha family (one of the subclans of the Paramara Rajputs). It also became prominent during the time of the Mughals and during the British Raj. The Mughal king Akbar was born in Amarkot/Umerkot when his father Humayun fled from military defeat at the hands of the Pathan/Afghan warrior Sher Shah Suri. Rana Prasad, a Hindu Sodha Rajput ruler of Amarkot, gave refuge to Humayun. Later the Mughal Emperor Akbar brought North India, including modern day Pakistan under Mughal rule and he confirmed the Ranas of this locale in their 'jagir' and estates.
Modern Umerkot has many sites of historical significance such as Mughal emperor Akbar's birthplace at Amarkot/Umarkot Fort where he was born on 14/15th October 1542, this was also the old residence of the Ranas, the earliest foundations of which probably go back to medieval times, around 13th or 14th century, along with later 18th and 19th century changes. Recently, Rana Chandra Singh Sodha (1931–2009) was the Rana of the former Amarkot jagir after 1947, and remained a member of Pakistan's National Assembly and also a federal minister.
The former Rana family no longer lives in Amarkot Fort, which is managed by the Sindh provincial government, they have a house at 'Rana Jagir' their main estate #umarkotFort #PakistanTravel #TouristGuied

Umerkot (Urdu: عُمَركوٹ, Dhatki عُمَركوٹ), formerly known as Amarkot,[1] is a city in Umerkot District in the Sindh province of Pakistan. The city was the birthplace of the Mughal Emperor Akbar.
Local Language is Dhatki which is one of the Rajasthani languages of the Indo-Aryan language family. It is most closely related to Marwari. Sindhi, Urdu and Punjabi are also understood by the citizens.

Amarkantak ...... Narmada River is a famous religious tourist destination full of natural beauty as well as the origin of the Son River and Johila River. Amarkantak, situated in the Maikal hills, is a popular Hindu pilgrimage center in Anuppur district of Madhya Pradesh. At this place 1065 meters above sea level, only the Vindhya and Satpura hills of central India merge. The Narmada River flows westwards and the Son River in the east direction. The beautiful waterfalls, sacred ponds, high hills and serene environment mesmerize the tourists. Nature lovers and religious people love this place. Amarkantak has been glorified in many mythologies, traditions and legends. It is said that Narmada, the daughter of Lord Shiva, flows from here in the form of Jeevandayini river. There are many temples dedicated to Goddess Narmada, which are considered as the idol of Durga. Amarkantak is also famous for many Ayurvedic plants. Airways- The nearest airport to Amarkantak is at Jabalpur, which is at a distance of about 245 kilometers. Rail route - Pendra Road is the nearest railway station to Amarkantak which is about 35 kilometers away. In terms of convenience, Anuppur railway station is much better, which is 72 km from Amarkantak. By Road: Amarkantak is connected by road to Madhya Pradesh and nearby cities. Regular buses are available from Pendra Road, Bilaspur and Shahdol.

Every year on Maha Shivaratri, there is a huge three-day festival. On Maha Shivratri, many Pilgrims from lower and upper Sindh come and most of them stay for the three days of festivities. It is one the biggest religious festivals in the country. It is attended by around 250,000 people. All the expenses were borne by the All Hindu Panchayat of Umarkot.

The local language is Dhatki, which is one of the Rajasthani languages of the Indo-Aryan language family. It is most closely related to Marwari. Sindhi, Urdu, and Punjabi are also understood by the citizens.
Umerkot province was ruled by the Sodha Rajput clan of Hindu Rajputs from medieval times until 1947 Partition of British India. The city held prominence during the Mughal Empire Jalaluddin Mohammed Akbar and the British Raj. Mughal Emperor Akbar The Great was born in Amarkot on 14 October 1542 when his father Humayun fled from the military defeat at the hands of Sher Shah Suri. Rana Parshad, the Sodha Rajput ruler of Umarkot, gave him refuge. Later on, Akbar brought northwestern India, including modern-day Pakistan under the Mughal rule.
Marvi of Umar Marvi love saga was kept here at Amarkot fort. Its ruler Rana Ratan Singh was hanged by the British at this fort for standing up for the rights of the Sindhis.
Umerkot was annexed by Jodhpur State in the 18th century and its rulers were reduced to Vassals. Umerkot and its fort were later handed to the British in 1847 by the Maharaja of Jodhpur in return for reducing the tribute imposed on Jodhpur State by Rs.10,000. Due to this the Rana of Umerkot did not have much say in whether to join India or Pakistan, although he expressed his desire to join Pakistan because of his Sindhi roots.[citation needed] Umerkot was the only state with a Hindu majority and a Hindu King, that acceded to Pakistan. Rana Chandra Singh, a federal minister and the chieftain of the Hindu Sodha Thakur Rajput clan and the Umerkot Jagir, was one of the founder members of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and was elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan from Umarkot, seven times with PPP between 1977 and 1999 when he founded the Pakistan Hindu Party (PHP). Currently, his politician son Rana Hamir Singh is the 26th Rana of Tharparkar, Umarkot, and Mithi.
The city is well connected with the other large cities like Karachi, the provincial capital and Hyderabad. Umarkot has many sites of historical significance such as Akbar's birthplace, Umarkot, Umerkot Fort and Momal Ji Mari. There is an ancient temple, Shiv Mandir, Umerkot, as well as a Kali Mata Temple, Krishna Mandir at old Amarkot and Manhar Mandir Kathwari Mandir at Rancho Line.
The story of Umar Marvi is that Marvi was a young Thari girl abducted by then-ruler, Umar, who wanted to marry her because of her beauty. Upon her refusal, she was imprisoned in the historic Umerkot Fort for several years. Because of her courage, Marvi is regarded as a symbol of love for one's soil and homeland.

During British rule in India, Umarkot was captured in 1843 and was made headquarter of Thar & Parkar. Buildings of British period including some decaying offices, circuit house (1877) and the grave of Mr. H. E Watson (1846-94) deputy commisioner of the area, with stone pavillion can still be seen inside the fort.
