What are some recommended day trips near Yangon
There are several enjoyable day trips you can take from Yangon to explore the surrounding areas. Here are some recommended options for smoothly and funly day trips:
Bago: Located just 80 kilometers northeast of Yangon, Bago is known for its rich history and ancient pagodas. You can visit attractions like the Shwemawdaw Pagoda, Kyaiktiyo Pagoda (Golden Rock), and the reclining Shwethalyaung Buddha. The journey to Bago is relatively smooth and can be done by car or bus.
Thanlyin (formerly known as Syriam): Situated across the Bago River, Thanlyin is a quaint town with a mix of Burmese and Portuguese influences. You can visit the stunning Kyaik Khauk Pagoda, explore the ruins of Ye Le Paya, and enjoy the scenic beauty of the area. You can reach Thanlyin by taking a ferry or driving across the bridge.
Twante: Located southwest of Yangon, Twante is famous for its pottery industry and peaceful countryside. You can take a boat ride along the Twante Canal, visit local pottery workshops, and explore pagodas like Shwesandaw and Shwemokhtaw. The journey to Twante can be done by boat from Yangon or by road.
Hlawga National Park: If you're a nature enthusiast, a visit to Hlawga National Park is a great option. Situated about 22 kilometers from Yangon, this park is home to diverse wildlife and offers opportunities for bird watching, hiking, and picnicking. You can also visit the nearby Hlawga Dam and enjoy the serene surroundings.
Taukkyan War Cemetery: For those interested in history, a trip to the Taukkyan War Cemetery is recommended. It is a memorial cemetery dedicated to Allied soldiers who lost their lives during World War II. The well-maintained cemetery is located about 25 kilometers north of Yangon and offers a peaceful and reflective atmosphere.
Remember to plan your day trips in advance, arrange transportation, and check the opening hours of attractions to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.

Myanmar, Around Yangon
Yangon is a small yet busy capital city and as such has the workings of government within its boundaries. Situated on the River Yangon, it has a flourishing port, but the most spectacular sights are the Buddhist temples, pagodas and stupas. Arriving by air, the visitor will see golden domes dotting the thick greenery of the outlying areas of the city. Set on Singuttara Hill, is the most holy of all these shrines, and the place every visitor must see -- The Shwedagon Pagoda.
Information on How to get to Dalah, Myanmar, by: www.AdventuresInWanderland.NET
How to Get to Dalah (Dala):
You have to go to the jetty on Pansodan Street, where you’ll be ushered to the tourist area (to the left just as you enter) so you can pay 4000K (roundtrip) as a tourist, instead of the 100K the locals pay. You do get a bottle of water with that 🙂
TIP: Take the ferry at sunset for beautiful views of Yangon.
You can see my detailed blog post about Dalah here, on my website,
