It borders on the Moscow, Yaroslavl, Vologda, Novgorod, Smolensk and Pskov regions.
Formed on January 29, 1935.
The Tver region is located in the west of the middle part of the East European Plain. It stretches 350 km from north to south and 450 km from west to east. The area of the region is 84,201 km², which is slightly more than the territory of the Leningrad Region. The distance from the Moscow ring road to the regional border is 90 km.
The territory of the Tver region has been inhabited since the final Paleolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic. In the Bronze Age, tribes of the battle-ax culture and its eastern version, the Fatyanovo culture, lived on the territory of the Tver Volga region. Subsequently, measure. Tver located north of Moscow, Tver was formerly the capital of a powerful medieval state and a model provincial town in the Russian Empire, with a population of 60,000 on January 14, 1913. Planned in the 1760s by the architect P.R.Nikitin, together with the current streets of Volny Novgorod and Sovetskaya, it formed three beams of the three-beam layout of the city center. On Novotorzhskaya Street, a number of houses of the second half of the 18th century have survived (No. 9 House of the Kurovs, No. 20 House of Shvalvich, No. 21 House of the Vaganovs and No. 25), from the late 18th - early 19th centuries (No. 11 House of Karpov and 15), house No. 31 was built in 1811 designed by architect K. I. Rossi. At the end of the 19th - beginning of the 20th century, houses were built: No. 2, 4 (House of the Shlygin), 6a, 10 and 12b. Botanical Garden of Tver State University — the northernmost botanical garden with an exhibition of steppe plants, only one of its kind in the Upper Volga. Located in Zavolzhsky Tver region, near the confluence of the Volga Tvertsa. It is valued as a site of historical, cultural and natural heritage besides being an archaeological monument.
The garden includes about 350 species of trees and shrubs. An impressive total of 2,000 herbs grow here. One of the major attractions in the gardens is a pond dating back to the 18th century.
