Number 7 THE EGG The Egg The Egg is a building on the Empire State Plaza that is easy to spot because of its unique shape. The ultramodern performing arts centre is now one of the city's most famous landmarks. It has a full schedule of shows and events every year. The oddly shaped building was built between 1966 and 1978. It has two state-of-the-art theatres that are known for their great acoustics and cosy settings.
Number 6 USS SLATER DE-766 USS Slater DE-766 The huge USS Slater DE-766, which is now permanently docked along the Hudson River, is another very interesting piece of history that you can see. It is the last destroyer escort ship from World War II that is still in the US. It has great tours both above and below deck. After almost fifty years of service in the American and Greek navies, the big grey destroyer was taken out of service in 1991 and is now a museum ship.
Number 5 NEW YORK STATE CAPITOL New York State Capitol The New York State Capitol is an amazing building with Renaissance Revival-style architecture that is both elegant and grand. During the week, visitors can see its equally impressive interior, which dominates and defines one side of the Empire State Plaza. Since it was finished in 1899, the beautiful
building has been the home of New York's state government. The extravagant building was the most expensive government building of its time. It took more than thirty years to build, and three teams of architects worked on its four large floors and elegant Mansard roof.
Number 4 EMPIRE STATE PLAZA Empire State Plaza Some people have said that the architecture of Empire State Plaza is scary, but a lot of other people love the variety of strange and unique buildings there. In addition to the beautiful state capitol and many government offices, these include The Egg, Erastus Corning II Tower, and many others. The huge complex was built between 1965 and 1976 at a huge cost to the city. It was the idea of Governor Nelson Rockefeller.
Number 3 SCHUYLER MANSION Schuyler Mansion The Schuyler Mansion and the land around it are now a state historic site. They are just a short walk south of the Empire State Plaza. Its rooms, which are full of antiques and personal items, give a fascinating look into the life of the famous Revolutionary War General and early US senator. The beautiful Georgian-style house was home to Philip J. Schuyler, his wife Catherine, and their many children from 1763 to 1804.
Number 2 WASHINGTON PARK Washington Park Unlike the nearby Empire State Plaza, which is made of concrete, Washington Park is full of beautiful plants and greenery. It has a lot of things to do outside, but it also has a lot of cool cultural events and community festivals throughout the year. Even though the city's best park is always full of people, it is the perfect place to relax, unwind, and get in touch with nature. It has big lawns, English-style gardens, a
beautiful lake, and lots of flowerbeds to stroll through. Along its paths are beautiful monuments like the King Memorial Fountain, and here and there are playgrounds and playing fields.

New York Travel: Discoveries of Troy
As ardent tennis fans, we love to watch tennis live and have attended the Rogers Cup numerous times in Toronto and even travelled to Montreal last year. But we had never attended a Grand Slam and had often talked about going to New York City to watch tennis. Finally, this year my husband got us tickets for the US Open, a great birthday gift for me. What could be better than world class tennis and a trip to the Big Apple?
We left Toronto early on a gorgeous morning of August 29, 2010 and drove eastwards towards Gananoque and crossed the border into New York State in the beautiful 1000 Islands region. At about 4 pm we finally arrived at our destination for the day: Troy, New York. Friendly innkeeper Tina Urzan welcomed us to her historic bed and breakfast -- the Olde Judge Mansion. Not only are her rates very reasonable, but her B&B is located in a gorgeous Victorian mansion with countless architectural details.
We left our luggage in our room and Tina even let us store our bicycles in the foyer of her mansion for the next few days. Then we headed off to explore the city of Troy, a historic scenic city with a population of about 50,000 people on the eastern banks of the Hudson River. From an elevated position in Prospect Park we enjoyed a phenomenal view over the Hudson Valley. Back down in the city I was quite astounded at the large collection of Victorian-era buildings downtown. At one time Troy was a very wealthy steel-producing city as the location of the first Bessemer converter in the United States. Precision instruments were also produced here, but the town became really famous as a centre for the manufacturing of shirts, shirtwaists, collars and cuffs.
The former affluence of the city is still visible in the hundreds of heritage buildings, from large mansions to churches to the Music Hall and the historic downtown campus of the Russell Sage College. The hills on the east side of town are dominated by buildings of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the oldest technological institute in the English-speaking world and one of the top engineering universities in the world. Troy turned out to be a much more interesting destination that I expected.

Troy, KS | A 4K City Walking Tour
Troy, KS was platted in 1855. It was named after the ancient city of Troy. The first house in Troy was built in 1856, and the first store opened in 1857. Troy was incorporated as a city in 1860. Troy is the furthest west Abraham Lincoln ever traveled. On the courthouse square is a massive wooden statue of a Native American created by Peter Toth. Toth has made at least one monument to the Native Americans in each state.
