Places to see in ( Altamura - Italy )
Places to see in ( Altamura - Italy )
Altamura is a city and comune of Apulia, in southern Italy. It is located on one of a hill of the Murge plateau in the province of Bari, 45 kilometres southwest of Bari, close to the border with Basilicata. As of 2016, its population was 70,562. The city is known for its particular quality of bread called Pane di Altamura, which is sold in numerous other Italian cities. The 130,000-year-old calcified Altamura Man was discovered in the nearby limestone cave called grotta di Lamalunga.
The area of modern Altamura was densely inhabited in the Bronze Age (La Croce settlement and necropolis). The region contains some fifty tumuli. Between the 6th and the 3rd century BC a massive line of megalithic walls was erected, traces of which are still visible in some areas of the city. A couple of centuries after Altamura was looted by the Saracens, it started to be inhabited again as emperor Frederick II refounded the city (1232) and ordered the construction of the large Altamura Cathedral, which became one of the most venerated sanctuaries in Apulia. In 1248, under pressure from Frederick, Pope Innocent IV declared Altamura exempt from the jurisdiction of the bishop of Bari, making it a palatine church, that is the equivalent of a palace chapel.
The city is located in the south-west area of the Province of Bari, near the borders with the Province of Matera, in Basilicata. The bordering municipalities are Bitonto, Cassano delle Murge, Gravina in Puglia, Grumo Appula, Matera, Ruvo di Puglia, Santeramo in Colle and Toritto. Some 12,660 hectares (31,300 acres) of the communal territory are included in the Alta Murgia National Park.
Altamura's main landmark is the Romanesque cathedral, begun in 1232 by Frederick II and restored in 1330 and 1521–47. It is one of the four Palatine churches of Apulia,[10] the others being the cathedral of Acquaviva delle Fonti, the Basilica of San Nicola in Bari and the church of Monte Sant'Angelo sul Gargano. The construction is influenced by that of Bari, but also with strong Gothic influences typical of the time of Frederick II. The orientation of the construction was probably changed during the 14th century restoration, to which also belongs the northern portal opening on the square; a second bell tower, the altar area and the sacristy are instead from the 16th century.
Externally, the main features are the rose window, with 15 small columns radially intermingling, and the Gothic portal, set into the entrance portico standing on two stone lions. On the arch of portals are sculpted 22 panels with scenes from Jesus' life. The interior, with a nave and two aisles, has stone presepe by Altobello Persio (1587). The medieval walls, erected by Frederick II, rest upon the megalithic walls of an ancient city of unknown name. These early walls are of rough blocks of stone without mortar.
Ancient tombs with fragments of vases and terracottas have also been found, of which there is a collection at the Museo Archeologico Statale di Altamura. There are caves which have been used as primitive tombs or dwellings, and a group of some fifty tumuli near Altamura. Some thirty thousand dinosaur footprints were recently discovered in Altamura's territory contrada Pontrelli, making it a major site for the study of dinosaurs.

2 Days in Bari, Italy: The perfect itinerary!
Explore the beautiful city of Bari, Italy, in just 48 hours! From its breathtaking views to its mouthwatering cuisine, there is something for everyone in this vibrant coastal city located in Apulia, one of the most beautiful Italian regions.
In Bari, you'll find a rich history and culture that is unique to the region. The Basilica di San Nicola is one of the city's most iconic landmarks and a must-see for any first-time visitor. The church is home to Saint Nicholas's remains, Bari's patron saint and the inspiration for Santa Claus. The old town of Bari, known as the Bari Vecchia, is also a must-see. The cobblestone streets are lined with charming boutiques, cafes, and restaurants serving traditional Pugliese cuisine.
When it comes to food, Bari is a real treat for foodies. Local delicacies include orecchiette, a type of pasta that is typical of the region, and veal scaloppine, a dish made with thin slices of veal that are pan-fried and served with a variety of sauces. The region is also known for its wines, with some of the best coming from the nearby Castel del Monte DOC.
Bari's beaches are also a must-see. The city is located on the Adriatic Sea, and the beaches here are some of the best in Italy. Enjoy the sea views and take a relaxing walk along the Lungomare promenade, which stretches along the coastline.
On the second day, a visit to Matera is a must. Matera, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is known as the city of rocks and is one of the world's most impressive examples of ancient cave dwellings. The ancient cave dwellings, known as the Sassi, are a fascinating glimpse into the past and are a must-see for any history buff.

BARI'S BEST STREET FOOD in Puglia Italy 🇮🇹🍝
Join me on a mouthwatering culinary expedition through the streets of Bari, Puglia, as I hunt for the famous Orecchiette pasta, handcrafted by the talented Nunzia. In this video, I delve into the heart of Bari's vibrant food scene, exploring the hidden corners where traditional Italian flavors come to life. Get ready to tantalize your taste buds as I uncover the secrets behind the creation of this iconic pasta shape, renowned for its distinctive little ears appearance.
But the culinary adventure doesn't stop there! I indulge in another local delight, Fried Polenta street food, prepared by the skilled hands of Maria. As I sample this delectable treat, I can't help but be captivated by the perfect balance of crispiness and tenderness that Maria achieves in each golden bite.
To top off this incredible day, I make my way to the breathtaking beach near Monopoli, where crystal-clear waters beckon me for a refreshing swim. As I bask in the sun and enjoy the idyllic coastal scenery, and yeah, down a Peroni beer, or two.

Luxury Tiny House On A Budget | Puglia Southern Italy Traditional Trullo Home
Luxury Tiny House On A Budget | Salento in Puligia. Southern Italy Traditional Trullo Home
In this Salento Puglia Italy travel vlog we have our first tiny home experience, staying in a traditional Italian Trullo home. This is a must do in Italy and one of the top things to do in Pulia. We managed to find this luxury tiny home for the budget price of just 35 euros and were blown away by how awesome it was both inside and out!
Trulli are protected under UNESCO world heritage law and can only be found in the Puglia region of southern Italy, near Salento.
This unique tiny house accommodation feels like living in a cave, with it's cone-shaped roof and stone walls. Staying in a Trullo is definitely a unique Italian experience that we would recommend to anyone!
We found our Trullo on Airbnb, and there is no shortage of them to choose from! If you'd like to stay in the same one we did, check out the link down below, and please consider using our Airbnb referral link when signing up to give us a small credit towards our next booking.

Places to see in ( Perugia - Italy ) Arco Etrusco
Places to see in ( Perugia - Italy ) Arco Etrusco
L ' Etruscan Arch or of Augustus is one of the seven gates of the walls Etruscan of Perugia . It was built in the second half of the third century BC and was restored by Augustus in 40 BC after his victory in the war in Perugia . It represents the most intact and monumental of the Etruscan city gates and opens onto the cardo maximus of the city, corresponding to the current Via Ulisse Rocchi.
Augustus had besieged Perugia for seven months, around 40 BC, before the city capitulated. It was the period of the civil war between Ottaviano Augusto and Marco Antonio . The latter's brother, Lucio , had barricaded himself in the city. Perugia, at the time, was a very difficult bastion to conquer, placed on the hill and protected by the walls that connected the seven gates. Moreover, from the chronicles of Dio CassiusWe also know that Lucio's army was numerically strong and the city was well stocked with food. The siege of Perugia had its climax with the burning of the City, it is said by the advice of Caius Cestius nicknamed Macednoicus.
In the following years Perugia was returned to its splendor by the Perugians under the auspices of Caesar Augustus who in the meantime had exterminated the nobles hostile to him by replacing them, leading the city, with noble friendly families, including the most important that of the Vibi. Of the fire of 40 BC remain traces of the remains of a Roman villa found in the excavations under the cathedral of San Lorenzo, Duomo di Perugia. In the period Augusteo, in the Etruscan stones of the ancient sixth of the arch
The arch consists of a façade crossed by a single arch (that is, by a single arch) and by two trapezoidal towers. On one of the two towers a loggia was built during the Renaissance period ; the fountain at the foot of the same tower was finished building in 1621 . Above the arch (two concentric rows) there is a frieze adorned with metopes with round shields and triglyphs ; above this there is another arch between two pillars.
In the internal row we can read the writing Augusta Perusia , that is the name of the city after the reconstruction of the 40; in the outer row there is the inscription Colonia Vibia , to testify the ius coloniae received by Treboniano Gallo . In front of the arch stands Palazzo Gallenga Stuart , home of the University for Foreigners .
( Perugia - Italy ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Perugia . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Perugia - Italy

A local mama teaches Kathy to make orecchiette (pasta). Alberobello is famous for its classic cone-shaped houses (trulli) and we learn the history of them.
