Zrenjanin, Serbia
Zrenjanin is a city and the administrative center of the Central Banat District in the autonomous province of Vojvodina, Serbia. The city urban area has a population of 76,511 inhabitants, while the city administrative area has 123,362 inhabitants.
The city was named after Žarko Zrenjanin (1902–1942) in honour and remembrance of his name in 1946. He was one of the leaders of the Vojvodina communist Partisans. During World War II, he was imprisoned and released after being tortured by the Nazis for months.
Zrenjanin has many places of interest like City Hall, the Cathedral, Freedom Square, King Aleksandar I Street, etc.

country's strongest assets ...
The most dominant of all the Valjevo mountains,
mountain of legends, blackberries, rivers and forest
trails for those addicted to walking through nature is Medvednik.
Medvednik (bear) is a mountain in western Serbia,
near the town of Valjevo. Its highest peak has an
elevation of 1,247meters above sea level.
Medvednik got its name from the fact that this mountain from the Valjeva
side is seen as a real bear's den, which is suitable for bears. Others claimed
that the name came from the large number of bears that were hunted
before, while the three were both cream cheese and lamb like honey, and
therefore the mountain got this name.
The slopes of Medvednik are overgrown with dense beech forest, and in some locations, pine trees appear. The mountain is rich in forest fruits such as: mushrooms, wild strawberries and medicinal herbs.

One of Europes most famous ,Top 10, train trips of all time, is from Bar Montenegro, to Belgrade Serbia. The is my EPIC travel vlog journey, taking a bus from Kotor Montenegro to the train station in Bar Montenegro. Taking the only night train available in the evening leaving at 7:30 pm. The cost was under $30 Euro for a seat in a room with a bunk bed of six per room. The trips lasts for about 11 hours. Passing some of the most scenic and deepest gorges in all of Europe. This railway line was finished in about 1976 and was Tito's pride to ride ,as he had his own train car for such an event. Truly an amazing trip, a bucket list event for any person!! Don't miss it. We crossed into Serbia, the next country on our Road to London expedition, via the Kalotina – Gradinje border. After completing the formalities, we continued driving toward Belgrade, the vibrant capital of Serbia.
En route, we stopped in Niš, a city rich in history. Highlights included a visit to the Niš Concentration Camp, a poignant reminder of World War II, and the iconic Skull Tower, a unique and haunting historical landmark. After lunch, the convoy drove through Serbia’s scenic landscapes, reaching Belgrade by sunset.
Our Belgrade Serbia city tour began with a morning walking tour of the Kalemegdan Park and Belgrade Fortress, the starting point of the city’s long history. We even explored a military bunker, which offered a fascinating glimpse into the city’s strategic past.
In the afternoon, we embarked on a boat cruise along the Danube River, providing a unique perspective on places to visit in Belgrade, including the confluence of the Sava and Danube Rivers. The cruise showcased the seamless blend of old and new Belgrade, offering breathtaking views of the city.
As the day unfolded, we immersed ourselves in the lively energy of Serbia’s capital. From the charming Skadarlija bohemian street to the famous floating clubs on the rivers, the city delivered unforgettable experiences. This stop was a highlight of our Belgrade itinerary, blending history, culture, and vibrant nightlife, making it a memorable leg of our Road to London Drive.

#111S - Serbia - Zrenjanin (city centre and around), Ečka and Stajićevo (09/2013)
Zrenjanin, the capital of Banat, third largest city in Vojvodina and sixth largest in Serbia. Originally named as forest (more or less), renamed after a WWII National Hero. And there's more history to learn about and some more interesting things, like that of no running water in the city for a decade.
But first and foremost, Zrenjanin is a beautiful city. From the approach into the city, by a bike path, it is a real pearl. Really hard to believe how nice it all looks. And so many bike paths, even along the major roads. Yes, some are in (very) bad condition, just like some streets, but you can see people living here are in much more contact with nature.
Taking you through Cara Dušana St, by an old church (built instead of an old monastery), than through Prvomajska St, to watch the emergence of a new bike path, by a still existing monastery and to the most popular leisure, picnic and recreational area - Ada Šumice - an island on the Begej river. Then back, by a stadium and a huge park, right into the city centre (sadly, no bike paths) and the pedestrian zone, to he Liberty Square which is absolutely stunning! And what to say of the Court House?
Leaving the city, it is simply impossible to get away from the trees, like the city was built inside a beautiful park. And the Industrial zone (with a bike path!) actually looks better than most parks! If only every industrial zone was like this.
The open road afterwards is a bit scary, but with the setting sun gave me a memorable picture all the way to Ečka. Which you could also reach on a bike path, btw. And the marvels only seem to start there! From the.. memorable houses, to the most incredible water tower ever, to a castle and a huge church. And yet, the main street just seems to be the most impressive part of it all, with many trees, grass, width and the sense of space. Just like in the nearby Stajićevo village where this movies ends. Absolutely beautiful. Even in the light rain and cloudy weather. Long story.
My special greeting goes to: the silly and reckless kid that lives in all of us. The one that will never admit to being wrong, will always think to be invincible, will take risks or not even think more than 2 minutes ahead. The one living life to the fullest. The one we all envy.
