| MEXICO TRAVEL 2022

🇲🇽 HERMOSILLO, SONORA - Welcome to part number 18 of my 2022 Mexico Travel series! I’ve been in the northern Mexican state of Sonora for a number of weeks, visiting Ciudad Obregón, Cócorit, Esperanza, Guaymas and San Carlos, now arriving in the sweltering desert city of Hermosillo!

The previous video was a 4K walkaround in the central area; this time we go into more detail with some things to do in Hermosillo, such as seeing preparations for Fiesta del Pitic, we climb Cerro de la Campana (Bell Hill), eat some awesome comida mexicana (mexican food) such as DOGOS, Tacos de Pescado in the local market, and more, all in 42c (107F!) and with a pelvis injury!

Hermosillo is another city in northern Mexico which is lesser visited by foreigners, particularly expats, those looking to move to Mexico or those who prefer to visit colonial or beach locations such as Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende and Cancun. Some may ask the usual ‘is Mexico safe’ or ‘is Mexico dangerous’ questions, but it has a lot to offer!

Why to visit MAZATLAN instead of CANCUN

Cancun is by far the most popular vacation destination in Mexico, but it´s not the best. This is why you should consider Mazatlan instead of Cancun.

First, your Mexico vacation is going to be so much more affordable when visiting Mazatlan. By switching destinations, with all the money you are saving, you might be able to take 3 Mexico vacations per year instead of just one.

But, the benefits of heading over to the west coast of Mexico don´t end there. Watch this video to learn all of the reasons why there are much better choices for a Mexico vacation than Cancun.

NEW MEXICO: a SCENIC motorcycle roadtrip from Chama to Taos and Eagle Nest

Welcome to New Mexico, welcome to “the Land of Enchantment.” Travel on some of the most beautiful roads from Colorado all the way through New Mexico to Texas with me and visit majestic mountain tops, the artistic town Taos, and one of the most famous churches of the area.

The ride took me from Durango through parts of the San Juan National forest to Pagosa Springs and to New Mexico. Here are the best roads to ride and places to visit in Northern New Mexico:

00:00 Drive over Colorado's beautiful roads to New Mexico
03:16 From Chama follow Highway 64 to Tierra Amarilla and from there to Tres Piedras, it is one of the most beautiful rides of New Mexico.
03:59 US 64 climbs the back side of the monumental Brazos Cliff , entering into the timberland of the Carson National Forest. Be on the lookout because of the large Elk population as the road winds toward the Tusas Mountain - and make sure to bring enough time to enjoy the amazing views.
05:34 At Tres Piedras, the highway drops into sagebrush mesa before crossing the Río Grande Gorge Bridge—565 feet or 172 meters above the river.
06:22 Visit the Sangre de Cristo Mountains - which is Spanish for Blood of Christ are the southernmost subrange of the Rocky Mountains. They are located in southern Colorado and northern New Mexico
07:11 Stay a night in Taos and explore the galleries and arts of the vibrant little town. The best place to stay: Casa Benavides B&B
10:10 Visit Taos Pueblo a UNESCO World Heritage
11:06 To see some other stunning architecture of the area check out San Francisco de Asís Mission Church on the main plaza of Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico. It was built between 1772 and 1816, replaced an earlier church in that location, and is the only original church which remains intact in the Taos area.
13:40 Drive the „The Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway“ all the way to Eagle Nest Lake State Park

CHACO CULTURE NATIONAL HISTORICAL PARK - Uncovering the MYSTERY | Chaco Canyon, New Mexico

Chaco Canyon, New Mexico contains some of the more complete and astonishing remains of a community - where dozens of great houses, kivas, and hundreds of rooms once housed a culture with an impressive grasp on time and space.

Chaco Culture National Historical Park, located in northwest New Mexico, may be remote and involve an adventure down a long dirt road, but it is simply one of the finest examples of Puebloan architecture that one can find. Numerous great houses remain in fantastic condition where one can experience something not often offered - a chance to walk inside the rooms!

Visitors can find plenty of hiking trails, between, around, and over the great houses to give dazzling views.

The Puebloans who resided at Chaco Canyon spent generations building and adding on to the complexes. Musch of this construction occurred between 850 and 1250 AD. While much of the use case for these great houses are not fully understood, it was believed they were for ceremonies, trade, and other activities for cultures in the general Four Corners area.

Visitors would be astonished to learn about the culture's knowledge of time, space, and how it allowed them better knowledge of farming and agriculture in the area. Walls aligned to true north as well as east and west following the rising and setting sun. These people were truly masters of this area.

Welcome to the Cactus Atlas! We are Glenn and Amy and invite you to join us as we visit all sorts of locations across the American West. We tour both natural and man-made attractions.

Our base of operations is in the Phoenix, AZ area. We do a lot of hiking and day trips as well as campground reviews and hope that we will be a great resource if you are planning a trip to the American West. We also hope to delight you with our exciting adventures!
