Steamboat S/S Trafik - Hjo, Sweden
During the summertime, the old steamboat from 1892 Trafik operates June to August. You can make a day-trip to Vadstena and Ödeshög on the east side of the lake Vättern. Or you can choose to visit Island Visingsö. Steamboat S/S Trafik is also offering jazz cruises where passengers can enjoy a magical evening on board listening to live music while cruising the waters of the lake.
S/S Trafik is one of Sweden’s oldest and best-preserved steamboats. She made her first trip in 1892 connecting the west and the east side of Lake Vättern and has done so ever since. In the fast world of today, she serves as one of Hjo’s major tourist attractions by offering visitors a glimpse of yesteryear.
The steamboat S/S Trafik was built back in 1892 and, at that time, she transported goods and passengers between Hjo and Hästholmen on the other side of Lake Vättern.
However, over time she only operated in the summer and, in 1959, services across Lake Vättern stopped altogether. Trafik was laid up in the harbor and even sank to the lakebed for a few weeks because she was in such poor condition.
Then “Sällskapet S/S Trafiks Vänner” (Friends of S/S Trafik) was formed. The association bought the steamboat in 1972 and began restoring her at the shipyard in Sjötorp.
Finally, in 1977, she could return to Hjo harbor and today she is considered one of the best-preserved steamboats in Sweden and is even listed. Furthermore, in 2013, the boat was awarded the Working Life Museum of the Year.

Det stora kanaläventyret på Göta Kanal - Del 3 Töreboda - Forsvik
Sommaren 2021 blev vi båtmänniskor och åkte den berömda Göta Kanal från Sjötorp till Söderköping.Detta blev den andra dagen av körande på kanalen med ganska få slussar. En mycket vacker sträcka och där det även blev dags att korsa en av de första sjöarna på resan. Storslagna vyer utlovas!

Tivedens National park in Karlsborg, Sweden
Tiveden National Park is a national park situated in the Tiveden forest in the municipalities of Laxå (Örebro County) and Karlsborg (Västra Götaland County), in the historical province of Västergötland in Sweden. It is administered by Naturvårdsverket and the county of Örebro, although a part of its area is located in the county of Västra Götaland. It consists of wild forest over rugged terrain. The national park was established in 1983 and the size was initially 1,350 hectares. After an extension in 2017, it now covers 2,030 hectares.Tiveden is located at the northern tip of the great Lake Vättern. The area straddles the provinces Västergötland and Närke. In its entirety, Tiveden belongs to the region of Örebro.
Within Tiveden lies the national park of the same name. It was only formed in 1983. With an area of 13 km², it is not very large (compared with Sarek National Park measuring just under 2,000 km²).
However, for such a small place, Tiveden has a lot to offer: During the Ice Age, the ice sheet moved rocks and boulders here, which in some parts resulted in the forming of enormous boulder piles. In between, there are caves, crevices and small pools. It is said that Tiveden is Sweden’s southernmost wilderness.
Boulders looking like faces and muffins
Some of the boulders look like faces, others remind of muffins due to their shapes. We keep wondering how, of all things, they came to stand upright. There are 10 m high boulders on which small pine trees grow although you wouldn’t expect much soil up there.
In the national park you can find much of the old forest as well as parts of the primeval forest here and there (old forest is around 100 to 150 years old, primeval forest is 300 to 400 years old). The purpose is to allow the entire area to return to the state of primeval forest. Fallen trees are left as they are, unless they block ways or paths.
Peace and quiet
You can find peace and quiet in the national park. When out hiking, we don’t even hear any airplanes. In the heart of the forest, the wind too seems to have disappeared. One can only hear the birds.
Hiking
There are several hiking trails of different lengths within the national park. The shortest trail is only 1.5 km long while the longest measures 15 km. The 280 km long Bergslagsleden also passes through the national park (coming from Kopparberg in the north of the Örebro region).
The trails are well marked, signposted and maintained. At times, you will have to climb. You should be secure on your feet, and have strong hands and legs. These tracks are not accessible with buggies. Be especially careful on the wooden stairs and rocks when it is raining.
Attractions within the national park
The most popular destinations within the national park include:
• Stigmanspasset: this rift valley virtually forms the entrance to the national park, as you will drive through it on your way to the visitor centre
• Stenkälla (cave)
• Junker Jägare’s rock, an impressive boulder
• Trollkyrka (Lilla and Stora), two mountains, approximately 200 m high, which you can climb on the Trollkyrka loop
• Vitsand, a child-friendly sandy bathing beach at the northern end of the shallow Lake Trehörningen

Kanothajk på Tidan i Västergötland
Valborgshelgen 2023 bjöd på fantastiskt väder då vi gav oss ut på paddeltur nedströms Tidan.Vi paddlade norrut från Vättak hela vägen till Tibro. Sträckan var omväxlande med både lite mer forsiga partier i början och mer lugnflytande ju närmare målet vi kom. Lite stenar, bäverfällda träd och kraftstationer gjorde resan till ett äventyr!
Kanoterna hyrde vi av Tibro kanotklubb, där man även fick låna ett släp för transporten.

About Motala Motor Museum:Motala Motormuseum is a museum in Motala harbor, Motala municipality . The museum opened in 1995 and the base of the exhibitions consists of the founder Jan-Ove Boll's private collection. The museum has about 160,000 visitors annually. The museum has a restaurant, cafe , souvenir shop and hotel in the same building.
