WHY YOU HAVE TO VISIT EDZNA! | Campeche day trip to the best MAYAN CITY!

Have you heard of the ancient Mayan city of Edzná? You guys have to go to Edzná on a day trip from Campeche. You really do!

Overall, this was the best experience we had a Mayan city. We went to 7 different Mayan ruins during our 70-day trip (including Chichen Itzá) and Edzná was a solid 10!

Since we had such crappy and expensive experiences renting cars in Mexico, this time we decided to take the local colectivo bus and it was awesome. It only cost us less than $10 total round trip 😳 we were very happy about that. We ended the day trying the very popular 'Queso de Bola' (cheese) ice cream and well... you'll have to see for yourself what we thought 🤣

We hope you like today's vlog. Remember you can always ask us anything! We are always happy to help :)

Thanks so much for watching and for being here. We don't take your time for granted!

XO,
Aimara & Gordon

Campeche - A Day In The City!

We mentioned a few months ago that we had to visit the beautiful city of Campeche to extend a tourist visa, more than one day actually. On the last visit we decided to spend a day in the city and of course we wanted to share a few things that we saw.

To include our visit to the San Miguel Fort and a great meal at one of the local seafood restaurants. The city is well worth visiting and spending 3 to 4 days to explore at leisure.

Enjoy a Day in the City of Campeche!

CAMPECHE & EDZNA

My travel to Campeche City and the Mayan Ruins of Edzna...

In colonial times, the port city of Campeche was constantly under attack by European pirates. The walls that were erected around the entire city to protect the harbor from invasion still stand today, offering the visitor a stirring reminder of Mexican history.

EDZNA- Means House of the Grimace in Mayan (also Etzná). The southernmost of the Puuc sites it can be reached by car and is only a one hour drive from the city of Campeche. The site is best known for its five-storied structure which is a combined pyramid and palace. The first four floors contain all types of rooms, while on the top floor is a temple. Another structure is the Temple of Masks, garnished with depiction's of the sun god in his rising and setting phases.

Edzna is surrounded by a complex system of canals and reservoirs, and a square, fortress-like structure is encompassed by a moat. While most of what one sees at Edzná is Late Classic in date, it is noteworthy that at least some of the canals go back to the Late Preclassic. Edzná was the most important place in mid-Campeche in the late Classic. Over 200 constructions were erected in that time, in an area of 10 square miles. In most cases the new structures were built over those from the late pre-Classic. Several stelae found here show Long-Count dates between 672 and 810 A.D.
