This is our recommended itinerary for 10 days in Kyushu covering Fukuoka, Beppu, Kagoshima, Mount Aso, Takachiho, and Kumamoto. Kyushu is Japan’s 3rd largest island and is known for having gorgeous nature (volcanos, mountains, grasslands), colorful soothing hot springs (both to see and soak in), and also amazing food (tonkotsu ramen, horse sashimi, black pork shabu shabu).
Most people go to Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka for their first trip to Japan, but if you want something different, definitely check out Kyushu!
