Top 5 Kazakhstan Cities By Population

Kazakhstan has a strong cultural heritage closely tied to the nomadic traditions of its past. One notable aspect of Kazakh culture is the tradition of horseback riding and the use of eagles in hunting. This practice is known as horseback falconry or eagle hunting.

1. Eagle Hunting: Eagle hunting is a traditional practice in which trained golden eagles are used to hunt small game, primarily foxes and hares. The hunters, known as berkutchi, develop a deep bond with their eagles, often starting the training process when the eagles are still young. The eagles are trained to respond to commands and fly from their master's arm to capture prey.

2. Horseback Riding: Horseback riding has been an integral part of Kazakh nomadic culture for centuries. Horses are highly valued and revered in Kazakh society. The Kazakh people have developed exceptional equestrian skills and are known for their mastery of horse riding and handling.

3. Eagle Hunting Festivals: In Kazakhstan, eagle hunting festivals are held to celebrate this ancient tradition. The most famous and widely attended is the Golden Eagle Festival, which takes place in the region of Bayan-Ölgii in western Kazakhstan. During these festivals, eagle hunters showcase their skills in various competitions, such as speed and agility tests, as well as traditional games like Kokpar (a type of horseback wrestling) and Kyz Kuu (a race between male and female riders).

4. Preservation and Recognition: The art of eagle hunting has gained international recognition and is considered an important part of Kazakhstan's cultural heritage. Efforts have been made to preserve and promote this traditional practice. In 2010, eagle hunting was added to UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, recognizing its cultural significance.

5. Tourism and Cultural Experiences: Eagle hunting has also become a popular tourist attraction in Kazakhstan. Travelers have the opportunity to witness eagle hunting demonstrations, interact with eagle hunters, and learn about the rich nomadic traditions and heritage of the Kazakh people.

The practice of eagle hunting and horseback riding in Kazakhstan reflects the country's deep connection to its nomadic roots and the enduring traditions that have been passed down through generations. It showcases the skill, bravery, and symbiotic relationship between humans and nature in the vast Kazakh steppe.

Taraz, Kazakhstan, Nazarbayev Square Short 4k Walk

This square is a historical heart of Soviet Taraz and it is surrounded by shops, cafes and restaurants. This is a great place for people watching and immersing yourself in the lively atmosphere of the city - in the evening citizens come here to take a walk and enjoy the weather.

The modern Central Square of Taraz is an architectural complex of administrative buildings, cultural and educational institutions. Here are the buildings of the city akimat, the Press House, the bank. The real architectural decoration is the theater building. It gives you real soviet vibe - just imagine Lenin statue instead of Baydibek Batyr and there you go - not much has changed since then. And it is, probably, for the best.

In 2019 it was renamed after former president of Kazakhstan.

Further on we continue to stroll down the street towards the Park named after Kairat Ryskulbekov.
It was founded in the middle of the last century and was originally named 'Komsomolsky'. Many citizens, including students of local universities, took part in its construction. In the early 1980s, rides worked here. Then they disappeared somewhere, and everything fell into disrepair.

By the 10th anniversary of the December events of 1986, a bust of Kairat Ryskulbekov was erected in front of the main entrance, and the park itself was renamed in honor of the national hero.

Behind the monumen, the Zheltoksan-86 center was built, which, in fact, became a museum. The personal belongings of Kairat Ryskulbekov are stored there, information about his associates from the Zhambyl region is collected, thematic media materials and photographs are widely presented.

Akyrtas, Taraz, Kazakhstan, Walk 4k

Akyrtas translated from Kazakh means “The Last Stone”. It is the most mysterious palace complex. Exact dating of the building remains unknown until this day, but this structure is given an age of at least one thousand years. Supposedly it dates back to the VIII-IX centuries. Presumably Akyrtas was built on the site of an older structure on top of the ruins remained, and the stones of which were later used to build the palace. There is no exact date of construction of this structure, and scientists also disagree regarding the ownership of the structure, the date of construction and many other factors.
Some say it is an old nestorian monastery, some say it is a buddhist temple and most courageous ones think it is a most eastern palace of ALexander the Great.
Another, most realsitic version was put forward by academician Karl Baipakov. He considered the Akyrtas settlement to be the headquarters of the Karluk Khagans, who ruled the region from 766 to 893 AC. Other academic researchers are of the opinion that such a grandiose construction could only be completed by such a very powerful ruler as the Arab commander Qutayba ibn Muslim. The time of his reign in Central Asia coincides exactly with the estimated time of construction of Akyrtas.

The weight of the individual largest stone blocks appx is 10 tons. The height of the foundation platform is 4 meters. According to some scientists, the main wall goes deep underground, when excavations were carried out at the site, this fact was established.
Other researchers claim that this structure was used over several eras by different civilizations. Stone blocks are processed differently; there are individual blocks with rough manual processing, broken and having lost their former appearance and shape. But there are also stone blocks with perfect mechanical processing, large in size, of which there are very few, but they exist.

It is, anyay, a very impressive structure with many misteries yet to solve and definetely worth adding to itinerary, whwn visiting Taraz.

Taraz Walking Alley 4K Walk, Kazakhstan Short

Taraz has more than 2000 years of history and once it was a prosepring city on Silk Road. The first reference historically recorded city linked with Taraz and the basis for the claim of 2000-year-old history is the fortress of Zhizhi that briefly existed at the site of modern-day Taraz in the 1st century BCE and is known to have existed until its decline in the 13th century. The city started to assume its present form when Colonel Chernyev's detachment took over the Aulie Ata fortress and annexed it to the Russian Empire, starting in 1864. Taraz was greatly improved by the Semirechensky railway that passed through the town in 1917. Before it was called Aulie-Ata and not much was happening here until then.

Nowadays it is a cozy city with almost 430 000 of population, the administrative center of Jambyl Region in Kazakhstan, located on the Talas River in the south of the country near the border with Kyrgyzstan.

I love being here a lot and I enjoy walking down the streets of this adorable city. As you can see by the map - it is a really 2000 years old settlement. In the very center of it there is an ancient archaeological site is located and wide walking street leads to the main square and Kazakhstan People Assembly building from Bayzak batyr. It lays behing the only large mall in the city named Mart.

Nowadays it is decorated with fountains, pavillions and jug-shaped arches over central part of the fountain. That was, probably the first walking location I saw when I first arrived to Taraz, so I have warm feelings towards this part of the streets surrounding old Taraz arcahaeological park.

Kazakhstan: Beautiful View From Almaty to Taraz - DiDi's Adventures Episode 34

Like and subscribe if you enjoyed watching! :)

We drove from Almaty to Taraz in May, it was our first road trip in Kazakhstan. It was quite warm, and it was absolutely beautiful. Be sure to pack all you need before you hit the road, anything from food, water, tissue, hand sanitizer etc. since it might be really hard to find them on the way. Also, beware of all the speed limit, it can change from 80 to 20 within a hundre meters, and there might be road police nearby. So be very careful! If they do catch you though, don't overpay your fine. ;)
