apachula de Córdova y Ordóñez, también conocida simplemente como Tapachula, (en mam: Tapaxlan), es una ciudad mexicana cabecera del Municipio de Tapachula, ubicada en la Región del Soconusco en el estado de Chiapas, situada entre la vertiente sur de la Sierra Madre de Chiapas y la estrecha llanura de la costa del sur del estado. Es la cabecera y ciudad más importante de la Región del Soconusco y la segunda más poblada e importante de Chiapas, solo después de Tuxtla Gutiérrez, capital del estado.
Fue capital provisional del estado de Chiapas en el año 1924, declarada mediante Decreto de 10 de enero de ese año por el Gobernador Tiburcio Fernández Ruiz, pero rápidamente se devolvió este título a Tuxtla Gutiérrez.6
Su economía se sostiene en la ganadería, agricultura, comunicaciones, comercio y finanzas públicas.7
Toponimia La palabra proviene del náhuatl Tapachollan, que significa Tierra anegadiza o lugar Inundable. Por las constantes lluvias y presencia de ríos que en temporada de lluvias se desbordan. La palabra se castellanizó a Tapachula. En 1997, se nombró oficialmente Tapachula de Córdova y Ordóñez únicamente a la cabecera municipal (anteriormente llamada ciudad de Tapachula) en honor a Fray Matías de Córdova y Ordóñez, pero el municipio se sigue llamando simplemente Tapachula.

La ciudad de Tapachula de Cordova y Ordoñez, es la segunda ciudad más importante del estado de Chiapas, ubicada casi en la frontera con Guatemala. En estos tiempos, que se recomienda viajar a espacios abiertos y poco concurridos, Tapachula ofrece experiencias entre la naturaleza del Soconusco, como la Ruta del Café en Chiapas. También damos una guía de otras actividades que podrás hacer en la región.
La región del Soconusco cubre la ciudad de Tapachula con su bosque tropical, cascadas y cafetales que le dan un aroma increíble al lugar. El Soconusco es considerado el pulmón de la zona sureste de la república mexicana por su gran extensión de biodiversidad y que de su río proviene gran parte del agua que alimenta a presas de todo el país.
¿Dónde puedo recorrer la Ruta del Café en Chiapas? 1) Finca Argovia: Aquí podrás vivir la Ruta del Café conociendo muy de cerca el proceso de producción, de voz de expertos que se dedican a su cultivo. Puedes vivir la experiencia completa al hospedarte en las cabañas, suites y casas de campo de estilo rústico, que tienen todas las comodidades e ideales para desconectarse y coexistir entre la naturaleza. También cuentan con spa, zona de albercas, tour de flores en jeep y recorridos al rio.
2) Finca Hamburgo: Fundada en el año de 1888 , se destacó por introducir tecnología de punta en el proceso del café. Actualmente, es una de las fincas que conserva a más de 80 familias, que laboran en ella permanentemente. Podrás recorrer otra visión de la Ruta del Café, con un proceso más automatizado y terminar haciendo una cata de café.
Ubicado “a media cuadra del cielo”, la altura le permite cultivar variedades de cafetales y de gran calidad. Puedes hospedarte en sus cabañas de techo abovedado, con ventanas amplias, que permiten ver en las mañanas como la neblina cubre por completo el hermoso paisaje verde que rodea a la finca.
3) Fabrica Rones de México: es una productora de rones y aguardientes ubicada geográficamente en la Franja Ronera, nombrada así por ser ideal para el cultivo de caña dulce y destilados únicos. Puedes dar un recorrido por la fabrica fundada en 1948, para conocer el proceso de elaboración y las variedades como el de cacao o café.
4) Black Mountain: la mejor opción para los que disfruten las caminatas o practicar deportes extremos entre la naturaleza. Es una Unidad de Manejo para la Conservación de Vida Silvestre, que promueve el cuidado al medio ambiente, a través de un recorrido por la reserva. Durante la experiencia puedes convivir con algunos ejemplares de venados cola blanca, pecaría de collar y muchos tipos de aves. Además de interactuar con la fauna representativa del lugar, como la ceiba, considerado árbol sagrado. Una opción para comer después de la aventura, es el restaurante campestre. Tienen especialidades de la comida criolla, con un menú basado en la mezcla de ingredientes originarios, con los que trajeron los españoles al continente, siendo la base de todo el maíz.
5) Chocolateria Chepi Laparra: en el municipio de Tuxtla Chico “el pueblo que huele a pan y chocolate” puedes visitar el taller de Chepi Laparra. Ella es una de las pocas mujeres en Chiapas que sigue elaborando chocolate artesanal, por lo que ha sido premiada en múltiples ocasiones en el extranjero.
Recorre su centro de demostración, para conocer el arduo proceso de elaboración, desde la extracción del fruto de cacao, hasta que se convierte en una barra de chocolate artesanal. Ahí mismo vende una gran variedad de productos elaborados con chocolate y artesanías chiapanecas.

People usually ask whether hitchhiking as a woman in Mexico / Latin America is safe. In this video I continue showing you that hitchhiking by myself as a woman / a solo female traveler in Mexico is doable. This time I hitchhike from Salina Cruz to the boarder of Guatemala through Mexico's (also slightly) infamous state Chiapas. All in all, in 3 days, I hitchhiked from the Mexican hippie surf town of Puerto Escondido through El Pueblo Mágico aka Mazunte (super cute bohemian backpacker coastal town in Oaxaca where I couchsurfer) and Salina Cruz to Tapachula where I met my couchsurfing host Julian! All in all this backpacker managed to hitchhiked nearly 700 km by herself, as a woman traveling alone in Latin America! Not bad eh? ;)
I finally left El Pueblo Mágico aka the cute Mexican hippie backpacker town of Mazunte and continued hitchhiking further from the Mexican Surf Town of Puerto Escondido to the industrial town of Salina Cruz. With just me and my backpack, I managed to hitchhike all the way to my couchsurfing host's home in Salina Cruz!
