Summer Trip to a rural village in Eastern Hungary
Thanks for watching this video. Hope you enjoyed it! I'm Viki, a Hungarian making videos about Hungary in English.
In this video I take you to Lake Tisza on a cute little local train. At Tiszafüred we hop on our bikes and explore the bike paths along the shore and Poroszló, a rural Hungarian village where we go for a strudel and I show you some typical Hungarian village streets and a local springtime tradition.

Hungary Tour Video
Hungary Tour Video - Hungary has always marched to a different drummer -- speaking a language, preparing dishes and drinking wines like no others. Its Europe at its most exotic.
Hungarys scenery is more gentle than striking, more pretty than stunning. But you cant say the same thing about the built environment across the land. Architecturally Hungary is a treasure trove, with everything from Roman ruins and medieval town houses to baroque churches, neoclassical public buildings and Art Nouveau bathhouses and schools. And were not just talking about Budapest here; walk through Szeged or Kecskemét, Debrecen or Sopron and youll discover an architectural gem at virtually every turn. Some people (ourselves included) go out of their way for another glimpse of their hidden favourites like the Reök Palace in Szeged, the buildings of Koszegs Jurisics tér or the Mosque Church in Pécs. It is almost as if theyre afraid these delightful structures will crumble and disappear unless they are regularly drenched in admiring glances.

Hungary is a landlocked country in Central Europe. Spanning 93,030 square kilometres (35,920 sq mi) of the Carpathian Basin, it is bordered by Slovakia to the north, Ukraine to the northeast, Romania to the east and southeast, Serbia to the south, Croatia and Slovenia to the southwest, and Austria to the west. Hungary has a population of nearly 10 million, mostly ethnic Hungarians and a significant Romani minority. Hungarian, the official language, is the world's most widely spoken Uralic language and among the few non-Indo-European languages widely spoken in Europe. Budapest is the country's capital and largest city; other major urban areas include Debrecen, Szeged, Miskolc, Pécs, and Győr.
The territory of present-day Hungary has for centuries been a crossroads for various peoples, including Celts, Romans, Germanic tribes, Huns, West Slavs and the Avars. The foundation of the Hungarian state was established in the late 9th century AD with the conquest of the Carpathian Basin by Hungarian grand prince Árpád. His great-grandson Stephen I ascended the throne in 1000, converting his realm to a Christian kingdom. By the 12th century, Hungary became a regional power, reaching its cultural and political height in the 15th century. Following the Battle of Mohács in 1526, it was partially occupied by the Ottoman Empire (1541–1699). Hungary came under Habsburg rule at the turn of the 18th century, later joining with the Austrian Empire to form Austria-Hungary, a major power into the early 20th century.
Austria-Hungary collapsed after World War I, and the subsequent Treaty of Trianon established Hungary's current borders, resulting in the loss of 71% of its territory, 58% of its population, and 32% of ethnic Hungarians. Following the tumultuous interwar period, Hungary joined the Axis powers in World War II, suffering significant damage and casualties. Postwar Hungary became a satellite state of the Soviet Union, leading to the establishment of the Hungarian People's Republic. Following the failed 1956 revolution, Hungary became a comparatively freer, though still repressive, member of the Eastern Bloc. The removal of Hungary's border fence with Austria accelerated the collapse of the Eastern Bloc and subsequently the Soviet Union. On 23 October 1989, Hungary again became a democratic parliamentary republic. Hungary joined the European Union in 2004 and has been part of the Schengen Area since 2007.
Hungary is a middle power in international affairs, owing mostly to its cultural and economic influence. It is a high-income economy with a very high human development index, where citizens enjoy universal health care and tuition-free secondary education. Hungary has a long history of significant contributions to arts, music, literature, sports, science and technology. It is a popular tourist destination in Europe, drawing 24.5 million international tourists in 2019. It is a member of numerous international organisations, including the Council of Europe, NATO, United Nations, World Health Organization, World Trade Organization, World Bank, International Investment Bank, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, and the Visegrád Group.

Video:
Heroes’ Square or Hősök tere was built in 1896 for the Hungarian Millennial Celebrations to boost Hungarian Pride on the 1000th birthday of the Kingdom of Hungary.
Let’s start all the way at the top of the monument and work down.
Archangel Gabriel.
In his right hand the angel holds the Holy Crown of St. Stephen (Istvan), the first king of Hungary.
In his left hand the angel holds a two-barred apostolic cross, a symbol awarded to St. Stephen by the Pope in recognition of his efforts to convert Hungary to Christianity.
At the base of the column is a group of seven mounted figures representing the Magyar chieftains.
These were the men that led the Hungarian people into the Carpathian basin and starting the Hungarian state.
In the front is Árpád, considered to be the founder of the Hungarian nation.
Followed on both sides by the remaining six chieftains.
Little survives in the historical record about these men, so their look and fashion are probably not historically accurate.
The back of the monument consists of two matched colonnades, each with seven statues representing Habsburg emperors and Hungarian rulers.
Below each statue is a relief sculpture of the most iconic moment from each of the historical figure's lives.
Statues of the Left Colonnade
Topping the outer edge of the left colonnade is a statue of a man with a scythe and a woman sowing seed, representing Labour and Wealth.
At the inner end of the left colonnade, is a male figure driving a chariot using a snake as a whip. This represents War.
Left Side Historical Figures and the Iconic Moments
STATUE: Stephen I of Hungary
RELIEF: the king receives the crown from an emissary of the Pope
STATUE: Ladislaus I of Hungary

Statues of the Right Colonnade
At the inner end of the right colonnade is a female figure in a chariot holding a palm frond representing Peace.
At the outer end of the right colonnade is a double statue of a man holding a small golden statue and a woman with a palm frond, representing Knowledge and Glory.
Right Side Historical Figures and the Iconic Moments
STATUE: Matthias Corvinus
RELIEF: the king with his scholars
STATUE: István Bocskay

Even if you are not Hungarian, you will get a sense of their greatness and many even a small dose of Hungarian pride, just by walking through.

Driving out of Kustanszeg Hungary
Part Renovated house for sale in Hungary
This pretty house is for those who are seeking peace and quiet, its location is nicely hidden away at the edge of the very picturesque rural village of Kustanszeg.
It was built in early 1950 and has very pleasing features and charm. The living area is just over 80m2 and consists of 2 bedrooms, bathroom & toilet, kitchen and pantry. There is also a covered terrace giving good outdoor sitting space. The house recently had a brand new roof laid as you will see by the pictures.
The interior is in good condition and is currently lived in so therefore all utilities are connected. There is a beautiful tiled stove for heating and a fitted kitchen, although a little dated its in good clean condition.
The garden is beautiful, there are hundreds of trees, shrubs and flowerbeds it has been maintained very well and nature can be enjoyed here all year round, there are many birds who visit the garden daily bringing joy to ones ears. You will also find an original working well here in superb condition and with clear fresh water.
The village of Kustanszeg is only 20klms away from Zalaegerszeg and Lake Balaton and Heviz can also be reached in around 30mins so its location is perfect for those who want to be amongst nature but also close to where things are going on.
