I recently took a trip to Smiths Falls, a charming small town located in Ontario, Canada, halfway between Ottawa and Kingston. I was excited to explore this town known for its rich history and recreational activities.
Smiths Falls is a charming small town located in Ontario, Canada, halfway between Ottawa and Kingston. It is the largest community in the Rideau Corridor and offers a full range of services for visitors, including restaurants, stores, and accommodations. The town is home to several parks, two nearby golf courses, and two arenas, among other recreational activities.
One of the first places I visited was Veterans' Memorial Park, which is located in Victoria Park and is dedicated to all soldiers fallen in World War I, World War II, and the Korean Conflict. It was a solemn and touching tribute to those who have sacrificed so much for our country.
Next, I visited was Victoria Park, which is located along the Rideau Canal, Canada's newest UNESCO World Heritage site. The park had a beautiful walking path that led to play structures, picnic areas, and boat docks. I enjoyed spending time near the water and taking in the peaceful surroundings.
I also had the opportunity to see the detached lock station featuring the bascule bridge, a rolling-lift railway bridge built-in 1914, now in a permanently raised position. It was fascinating to learn about the history of the lock stations in Smiths Falls and how they were integral to the town's development.
Overall, my trip to Smiths Falls was a wonderful experience. The town's rich history and recreational activities make it a great place to visit for a weekend getaway. With so much to see and do, I hope to return soon and explore more of what this charming town has to offer.
